HYBRID HOOK 06
In two minutes Abbie was facing a log cabin with lots of trees behind it. She looked to the side to find three other cabins very close to each other.
Something felt strange, they all looked very old and silent. He cautiously approached the nearest one, the wood creaking beneath his feet as he stepped into the entryway to knock on the door. Three knocks and no one came.
- Hello! he shouted. "Is anyone there?" I'm lost and I need help. — knocked a few more times.
When no one appeared for a few more minutes, she gave the door a slight push that wouldn't open, then she pushed harder, the squeak of the hinge sent a shiver down Abbie's spine.
The girl looked inside the hut made of tree trunks and saw nothing inside but dust and an old fireplace full of cobwebs, an animal crawling near her feet made her scream and run outside.
Surprise crossed her features when in a matter of seconds Hook appeared, snarling and taking a protective stance in front of her.
- What happened? he asked looking around.
— I think an animal ran over my foot and scared me. You didn't need to show up, the first hut looks abandoned but those others I haven't seen yet.
— In the minutes I was here I went to check around, see if there was a threat or something I needed to know. I don't smell humans or any life other than insects or reptiles.
“Oh. Then they are abandoned. - Dismay filled her - If you don't have people, you have nothing to communicate. Shit.
"I'm going to look at the other huts, stay behind me."
- OK.
Hook cautiously entered the second hut, there was nothing like the other, just dust. Frustration gripped him.
- Cum! He punched the wall.
Abbie flinched in shock even though she understood his anger, she felt the same way. Hook looked at her with a tightness in his chest, a common feeling in the last few hours he'd known the tiny female. He had scared her, normally he wouldn't care, but something about her made him care.
Her last words to him before leaving the cornfield were echoing in the back of his mind, tormenting him.
“Don't be scared, it was a tantrum, I won't hurt you.
- I know. I am also upset that there is nothing here, maybe on the side there is something, let's look.
The two walked out into the next cabin, surprise hitting them when they saw boxes stacked and dusty strewn across the one-room area.
The smile Abbie gave Hook made his heart race, he hated it.
“Don't smile at me, Abigail.
- Why? — she was really confused.
- I dislike.
Abbie frowned but then laughed.
- You are weird. I have too many reasons to cry, so I'll laugh if I want to because it's not my fault that you hate me. — She forced a huge smile to tease him — Anyway, let's look at what's inside these boxes.
Abbie decided to ignore the boorish Hybrid and take the lead by going to the nearest pile, opening one of the boxes and squealing with excitement at what she saw. Hook ran to her and relief coursed through his blood.
“Look Hook, two-way radios.
- That! — he almost smiled — I'll try to contact HybridFalls .
"I hope they still work." Abbie crossed her fingers.
— They're even made for emergencies, they should work.
A few minutes later, Hook signaled Abbie for silence after he set the frequency to communicate with HybridFalls without signal interference.
“I'm already silent. she whispered.
“Quiet! She rolled her eyes and walked away, crouching in a corner to sit down. "This is Hook, I'm contacting HybridFalls , over. "
The device chirped but no response. Abbie's stomach tightened, she was so hungry that for a second she thought she saw the cabin spin. She prayed softly as Hook tried again and again to contact HybridFalls , but to no avail.
"Hook, is that you?" a clipped voice said over the radio.
Abbie nearly jumped up to cheer, but Hook glared at her, then held still.
“Yes, I need rescuing. Exchange. he said, his jaw muscles clenched.
- What is your location? You're hurt?
The voice sounded relieved to be talking to him.
“I'm not hurt. Send rescue for me, I'm three hours east of Highway 54. Over.
The radio screeched but no voices came through it again.
"Fuck you." He tensed.
“We're sending a team in a helicopter right away.
'Oh, thank God!' Abbie exclaimed, and Hook threw himself to the ground in relief.
The girl's belly rumbled again. It had been over twenty-four hours since he'd last eaten.
"I'm going out to look for food." he said, getting up.
- I'll go with you.
- No. Stay here.
— I want to go, I don't like to be alone.
The truth was, Hook desperately needed some distance from the female who was teasing him.
“But I'm sick of hearing your voice next to me and you keep smiling, it pisses me off.
"Does being optimistic bore you?" You are such an idiot. Wants to know? You can go look for your food and I'll look for mine, I promise not to cross your path. I'm not willing to be treated like this by you, okay? she fumed.
“You're human, weak, and you can't climb a tree as fast as I can. We don't know the area and we don't know what kind of wild animals there might be around here.
He didn't want to acknowledge it but beyond the distance he wanted to keep from her, the thought of something happening to her bothered him more than he'd like.
“Feed them to me then since you hate me that much and don't need to emphasize something I already know about my physical condition compared to you.
— My hatred is not personal against you, but in general. Just do what I say and we won't have any problems, soon a team will be here to pick us up.
She snorted.
“Hook, just let me go find something to eat, okay? I don't want any trouble with you either.
- You will be. I can get it for both of us, I'm faster and more dexterous.
“Shit, I don't want to be dependent on you because I know you're going to throw it in my face later.
- I will not do it.
"We're just going to mind our own business until rescue arrives." He is well?
"If you want, I can tie you up again." Is there a rope in these boxes?
Abbie cursed under her breath as her blood boiled with rage.
- Hell. I stay. Go now because I'm very hungry.
“I won't take orders from you.
"Then go to hell." Why are you like this? I didn't do anything to you, I'm done with it. Just get the hell away from me, please, before I have a fit of rage because of you. Fucking hell, annoying man from hell.
Hook growled in annoyance.
"I'd prefer you refer to me as a male rather than a man."
"Then get the hell out of here, boring ass bitch." she corrected with sarcasm in her voice.
Hook left the hut towards the trees that surrounded the place to look for some fruit that could feed them for a few hours. His thoughts wouldn't leave Abbie and regret for the way he'd treated her shot through him. Perhaps he had gone too far by taking his anger out on an innocent female, but that didn't negate the fact that she was human, he couldn't get over it.
Running through the trees he sniffed for animals but felt nothing, he felt relieved that it was less of a problem to deal with.
Going further he managed to find banana trees laden with green and ripe bunches, at least something good should happen. It wasn't a big deal, but they wouldn't be hungry.
On the way back to the hut, that noise he had heard earlier again began to echo far away in his ears, it was closer now. No, he wasn't hearing things. He quickly recognized that there was a helicopter approaching.
An alert stirred within him. It would be impossible for HybridFalls to arrive that fast.
“Abbie. was the only thing that came to mind before he started to run back to her with his chest hammering his chest.
