The Party He did not Expect
”Excuse us Mr. Ferrer. ” he said to the man.
They both bid their goodbyes formally before we left. Not far away, entering where the most main stage was he released me violently.
"Goddamn it Elyse,” he growled at me. My confused eyes wandered. Why is he angry again? Did I do something?
"W-what did I do?" I wonder question.
"If you have plan of flirting, don’t fuckin do it here, and especially don't do it in front of me!" he yelled silently.
Fortunately there are only a few people in this position and they don’t seem to care yet. My eyes grew bigger as I get more confused.
"B-but I'm not-"
”Yeah? How you smiled and eyed him seems like you’re asking for a night, ” he spat bitterly.
My jaw dropped. “What? Gael, what are you talking about? I was just being polite- ”
”You think I didn’t hear about your whereabouts while I’m away? With the amount of photos you take with your men while I'm gone do you think I'll still believe you? If you want to flirt, finish this night first, do you understand? ” he said emphatically before leaving and leaving me.
I choked on my words as I look at his eyes. He look so mad and disgusted of me. Instead of continuing the explanation, I chose to remain silent. I have an idea what he’s talking about but about his thoughts, I don’t know.
He thinks I’m cheating on him while he’s in the US? Was it because of my friends and I going out then he immediately gave meaning to it?
I tried to follow him but I lost sight. I felt so out of place as I wandered around. There’s lot of people, all are looking elite and luxurious. I can’t believe I attended the party that the Navarros themselves hosted.
I once saw them at a party that my father attended, but that was way-way back. I was still a child when I first saw their family. And even before I was unconscious, I knew immediately how different they were around each time they were around. The power and the influence they hold is undeniably intimidating.
This place is one of their property. There is a mansion not far from here in the vast space where the festival is held.
"Where are you going?" I was a little surprised when I felt Gael's grip on my arm.
"U-uhm, I followed you but you disappeared," I explained.
His nose flared as he looked at my face. He grabbed me and guided me to the place near the stage.
“Brace yourself,” he whispered.
My pupils shook when I saw his mother, gracefully talking to the people around her. She’s wearing an elegant beige gown with fur at the hem of the cloth that’s on her arms and shoulder. I swallowed immediately and didn’t know what to do.
As we approached, I immediately saw their eyes on us. It’s like their group turned so silent because of a catch that’s coming. Her mother’s eyes bore into us but I felt her gaze on me intensely. She doesn’t look welcoming but she doesn’t look unfriendly as well, which makes me more nervous. She’s always been like this.
"Mother," Gael uttered.
It took seconds before she answered Gael. If he hadn't called her she wouldn't have taken her eyes off me. His mother came over to kiss him. I sighed at their side as they both do their thing. It seems like the surroundings are quiet because of the scenery we are doing here.
"I'm glad you are able to come," she said to his son with not much emotion.
“I’m thankful for your kind invitation,” Gael answered with the same monotone voice. The tension was high and I could hardly stand it. I built the momentum to interfere.
I cleared my throat, "I'm happy to see you madam."
Her eyes bore into me. She doesn’t have much expression. While having internal breakdown, I managed to lift up my hand my gift to her.
“I hope you accept this tiny gift of appreciation,” I said.
She looked down at it with her intense gaze. She then lift it up after and smiled lightly at me. Why does her smile feel so intimidating rather than friendly? I was surprised that she didn't even speak and barely waved her hands before she turned his attention back to his son.
A man automatically got the gift from my hand and left. I think that was one of their men.
“Have you seen Savannah already? She’s looking for you. She just got back from the US as well, did you two met in there? ” Her mother asked him.
My lips parted. I saw how Gael side eyed me like he’s not comfortable of me hearing their conversation. I just bowed. Why? Why Gael?
That doesn’t end there. A few minutes after, the woman they were talking about popped out of nowhere and greeted both of them. Taunting with her black sleek dress, the ‘Ms. Universe ’is here.
"Gael," she even kissed my husband as he greeted him. “I just got back from the US for a queen duty. I was thinking about contacting you but I was so busy that I- ” Gael cut her words.
I gulped when Gael pulled his husband stunt again.
"Savannah, this is my wife, Elyse." Her attention went into me even though she’s still looking shock about Gael cutting her off, I saw how her smile turned raw.
For the moment I’ve thought, she might have won the crown but I won the man of her dreams. But that thought immediately vanished when she ignored me and continued talking to Gael, flashing smile with her tantalizing eyes.
I don’t know how I was able to stand there while watching them casually talking. And what I’m more stunned about is how his mother and his ex-fiance treat me so casually like as if they know what I’m for, like they know what’s my purpose.
I thought, when we get married it will be that easy. It hurts.
