The Fight with Him
I woke up with a throbbing head. We went to the bar last night to celebrate one of friends birthday. I didn’t intend to come but Olivia convinced me that we deserve that break after all of the stress we’re going through our business. So this hang over is what I had to endure this morning.
The first thing I did was to check my phone for any important message. Screw me. I’m just after Gael’s message. Unfortunately, I saw nothing from my husband. He’s been gone for like three days now. I just know he’s doing some important business for his qualifications and such.
Wearing Gael’s shirt, I stood up from my bed and proceeded to do my morning routine. Gladly, I don’t have any schedule today so I would be able to deal with this hang over of mine.
I tied my hair in a messy bun and didn’t bother to change clothes. My underwear couldn’t be shown because Gael’s shirt serves like a dress for me since it’s too oversized. I went out of our room just like that.
Geez. I’ll probably just order something for breakfast. I’m too sick to cook. Yawning, I walk to steps so I can get to the kitchen. I scanned the whole ground area. This place is massive, it felt so empty specially that I’m always alone here. The living area is well lit because of the natural lightning. Did I left the blinds open?
My brows furrowed when I heard a slight noise from somewhere. When I reached the last step of the stairs, I immediately went to the direction of the kitchen and to my surprise, I saw Gael there, leaning on the counter top while holding a new paper also sipping his coffee. When he noticed my presence, his head turned to my direction.
My eyes lighted up and I almost ran to his direction. He’s here! My husband’s here! He put his coffee down and turned the page of the news paper without looking at me.
”Y-you’re home,” I voiced out.
His lips twitched. “Of course, this is our home.” He uttered coldly.
I couldn’t hide my smile but I tried to endure it by biting my lower lip. I played with my finger while looking down at my feet.
”How have you’ve been? You didn’t told me you’re going home,” I said.
”Why? If I did told you, will you not go out and party like what you did last night?”
My body stiffened when I heard him said that. He knew?
”Surprised? I might not be home but I know your whereabouts.” He folded the new paper and he sat down on the chair to focus on his tab. While I stood there looking like a child being scolded.
“Good for you then. At least one of us knows what’s happening.”
I can’t help but to sound bitter. I know that he has connections, givn the fact that he knew people I met. I’m not surprised that he knew. His presence here is more surprising to me.
”And what are you pertaining to, Mrs. Navarro?”
I chuckled without any humor. I walk to the fridge with my bitter expression.
”Glad you acknowledge me as your wife. I thought I’m all alone in this marriage.” I said blandly.
I got the pitcher and poured a glass of water. I heard him hissing bitterly.
”I’ve been gone for days and this is the attitude that I get?”
I harshly faced him. My eyes are embedded with both pain and anger.
”Yes. And you didn’t even bother to update me about your life, while you are out there monitoring my every single moves. You’re fvcking insane, Gael.” I banged the glass on the sink. Screw breakfast, I’ll just go back to my room.
I opened the faucet and start to wash the single glass when I suddenly felt him grabbing me, harshly making me face him. I gasp.
”Sleeping beside you is enough for me to know that you went out last night. I don’t need to flick any finger for that, Elyse. Tell me, was that your routine every time I’m out, huh?”
My eyes widened a fraction. I processed the things that he said. So he went home last night? And what? He slept beside me? Well that was our room but, we never slept together ever since our marriage. And what routine he’s saying? I’ve been working my ass off only for him to judge me because of that single night I had fun?
”If only you’re always here then there will be no questioning.” I gritted my jaw and triedd to turn my back at him again but he harshly grabbed my arm to stop me.
I felt his tight grip on me. His eyes are for sure showing so much anger right now. I can feel his ego being tested here. I admit I’m afraid but I’m hurt!
”You are goddamn married. You are bearing my name. Instead of partying, you should have at least do something to be a wife! You couldn’t even close the blinds, what the hell?”
I blinked the tears that’s pooling on my eyes. I fought with his angry stares. I have a lot more to say but pain reigned on me. All I can here is his first sentence, it strucked me like a bullet.
”Right,” I whispered. “I’m sorry because I’m bearing your last name. I’m sorry because I couldn’t do better. If only my husbands here all the time then I should have know the duty of a wife.”
His expression hardened when I said those words. His grip slightly loosened so I took the chance to get away. I pushed him lightly and removed myself in front of him.
”Oh, fvck. Don’t give me that attitude.”
I ignored him.
”Elyse,” he called me.
I continued walking as tears started to fall from my eyes.
”Elyse! Come back here!”
I pretend not to hear him and ran the steps of the stairs. I banged the door of the guest room where I used to sleep every time he’s home.
