Chapter 21 - The Interrogation
CELESTINA VILLARAMA’s POV
With my fist that was formed like a ball, I breathed heavily as I finally opened the door that led me back to the alpha’s office. “Ice told me that you wanted to have a private talk with me.” Just like what Ice said, the atmosphere around the whole room was completely different from usual.
Lucas couldn’t have possibly placed wolfsbane in here as it would also put his life in danger. “Take a seat. This is going to be a long story,” Lucas finally broke the silence between us after quite a while.
Even if I was confused what story he was referring to, I obediently followed his order. He evaded my gaze and no matter how many times I tried to connect our eye contact, he just wouldn’t budge.
“Stop, Celestina Villarama,” he coldly said before he sat on his swivel chair, opposite from where I was. “For starters… Hold your necklace and call out for the moon goddess.”
I did as I was told, involuntarily. My hands moved on their own until I was holding the necklace that Sarina gave me. “Exactly for what purpose, and how many times do I have to call her out?” I questioned.
There was a short pause on the alpha’s emotions, as if he wasn’t expecting that I’d ask something like that. “I knew it,” he whispered to himself. Lucas crossed his legs, then placed both of his hands on his left knee. “So you really had a connection with Sarina, huh… You dared to deceive me with your innocent face,” Lucas uttered. If only eyes had the ability to murder someone on the spot, I would’ve already died. “Since when did you arrive inside the Realm of Xenon?”
From that point, I knew that I shouldn’t give him the correct and truthful answer, but I was being controlled like a robot. “J-j-just a few months ago…” I almost bit my tongue just to prevent myself from speaking any further, but it was a futile thought. “A portal approximately eight years ago popped out of nowhere… I can’t remember the rest of the occurrences during that day. But that’s certain — I entered this realm through that portal.”
“So, you’re basically saying that you weren’t born here. And that also means that there’s no way that you’re fated to be someone’s mate, right?” Lucas mumbled. He seemed to be having fun as I had no opportunity to defy him at all.
I nodded my head once. “A yes and no, Alpha Lucas,” I replied. My vision was swirling and I swear, I could no longer maintain direct eye contact with him. “Yes, I’m a human born and raised from the opposite side of this realm. And no, I’m definitely someone’s mate,” I explained to clear things out.
“What’s that supposed to mean? A human’s going to be a wolf’s mate? There’s absolutely no way that your mate will accept you! You’ll end up getting rejected,” Lucas exclaimed as if he knew me better than I do.
But what can I even say against that if I’ve actually been rejected already?
“That’s fine with me. I have no intention to stay here for a long time either way. My memories are still puzzled and there’s a lot of mystery surrounding me that I have to unfold first. Being responsible as a mate is still the least of my concerns,” I concluded the conversation.
If I won’t even get accepted by Siege as his mate, then the only option left for me is to figure a way out of this realm.
Lucas shook his head. “You probably have no idea with the rules that Sarina bestowed upon the Realm of Xenon if you’re thinking about escaping this place on your own will.”
It’s unusual how Lucas somehow got to read my inner thoughts. But then again, it might have just been based on what I said. “You talk as if the Moon Goddess, Sarina, and you, were significantly close. Could it be that the two of you used to be acquainted, and were later on betrayed? Just like what the Crimson Moon Pack experienced with Ice before,” I innocently asked, hoping that I’d get a decent response.
“You’re right at some point. It’s just that, Sarina was never fond of me even if I showed her most of my true colors. She was the very first person to have faith in my capabilities despite getting defeated by that damn alpha of yours over and over again,” he answered. There was no sign that he’s making up stories.
I actually kind of began to pity him…
“Why are you being so cruel, Alpha Lucas?”
His eyes cooled down and he was no longer wary of my presence. “What are you implying, Celestina?”
“I know that you’re attempting to enter my mind just like what you did to everyone else in your pack. I can sense your soul lurking within mine. My wolf has been bothering me about it, hence, she’s protecting me from getting overpowered by you,” I said, then stood straight before I went beside the document papers that were piled up on his table. “Why do you have to corner everyone just to make them obey your commands? Are you afraid that all of your pack members would end up leaving your side? Did Sarina cause you that much trauma in the past, which explains why you’re irritated by my similarities with her?” I consecutively questioned Lucas who was literally suppressing his emotions to not hit me right now.
“... I can do,” Lucas muttered to himself.
“What?”
“I said, that’s the very least that I can do!” Lucas flared.
The alpha could no longer maintain his composure as he harshly scratched the back of my hand, going all the way up to my shoulder. I instinctively moved away from him because of the fact that I have no clue how ruthless he can be. I’m certain that the strength that he used to take Kristoffer down still wasn’t his best.
I might’ve placed myself in danger… and it seems like curiosity can seriously kill, huh.
