I went home
~FLASHBACK PART 1 CONTINUED
The landlady was already like a sister to me. She fortunately was a lawyer, so she also helped me in studying and also gave me her old books. She guided me. I was really thankful of her so I ended up telling her my truth in short manner and apologized for telling lie before. Her husband was abroad to work and the floor below the rooftop was for them. The mother daughter stayed and her daughter also respected me as I went to them in weekends also.
At work, when I started at first, I was scolded because I was slow at washing. But after few days, my speed was somewhat good. The other workers were all elder than me and we had a big age gap. So, we did not care about each other so much. One day, the manager came when we were washing the dishes and he looked and pointed at me, "You, come out." I did not know what was going on. I had not done anything wrong but still I was afraid that I will get fired. However he said, "How are you doing your job? Is it satisfying?" I looked down and said, "Yes, sir it is. I have not done anything wrong and I have also good speed now. Please don't fire me."
He laughed and said, "We have more dishwashers here. You are not necessary. But, I am not firing you. I just wanted to know if you can serve well also. One of our waiters suddenly left due to personal reasons and we are low on serving staffs. So, if you can, then you can join." I was shocked and looked up directly and answered him fast, "Yes, yes I will do my best." I knew that waiters were paid more than the dishwashers. So, it was a promotion for me. I got happy to hear that. He said, "Okay then, follow me." He talked while he walked and I followed him, "I will give you a week and if you do better then, the position is yours." He took me to the waiters' room and said, "Take one of those aprons and you will get your T-shirt after a week. Start it from now." I nodded and said, "Yes sir. Thank you." Then I started working as a waiter.
After a week, as I did well, he kept the position for me. Being waiter was hard and tiring but it is less work than of dishwasher's and also my salary increased. So, I was happy. The three months I had the same routine, and as I studied hard, I gave my exams also to enroll in law campus. I waited for results. I worked hard for three more months until my result came. I was so happy when I saw the results, I passed and also I got the scholarship. I admitted myself to the CEC Law School that was near. It was one of the best law school in the city. I was so happy.
~PRESENT
I was on my bed and I missed my parents a lot. I was already successful but still I did not have any guts to face my parents. The next day, I took my car and headed towards my home. I missed them a lot and I could not control myself anymore. Just before I reached I changed my mind and thought of not going. But I ended up going. I parked my car and walked to the front of door. I rang the bell. After a few minutes, my mom came to open the door and when she saw me she started crying and hugged me so tightly and said, "I missed you so much my baby." I also ended up crying and said, "I missed you too mom." We hugged and cried until my father came calling my mom, "Who rang the bell?"
When he saw me, he was so happy to see me. We three hugged each other. We went inside. My mom started beating me slowly when we sat. She started telling, "How could you leave home like that? Why did you not even contact us? Why did you make us so worried?" She cried again. I wiped her tears and said, "I am sorry mom, I am sorry dad. But look I am back and I fulfilled my promise. Just be proud of your daughter now."
She suddenly got up and said, "Now, I will not let you go. Look how thin you have become. I will go and prepare your favorite foods." We talked about us until it was late at night. I came to know that my sister and her parents moved to a new house. I was sad to hear that. After talking for a long time and after dinner, I went to my room and it was the same like before. It was so clean. I slept on my bed. The next day, when I woke up, my mom was also already up and she was preparing foods. I helped her. My dad also came to kitchen. We ate and I said them that I had to go. My mom tried to stop me and said to spend a day with her. I said her, "I have my own law firm to handle and no one will work if I do not go there. I will come back home at night." They agreed and I returned. For one week, I had the same routine.
When we all were gathered in the living room and chatting, my mom said, "We have received a wedding card that we have to attend this weekend." My father said, "But none of us are free this weekend. But we should also go." My father looked at me and asked, "Sarah, are you also not free?" I just said, "I am free. But I don't..." My mother interrupted and said, "Okay then that's final you will go." I could not say anything and I did not want to deny her because after so long time she asked me to do something. I said, "Okay, I will go." But when I saw the wedding card, I regretted accepting the decision.
