I looked at Tyler uncertainly. But he still growled after Jared, although he had already left the house and the door was closed. What was it that bothered Tyler about Jared's words? Did I really have to be that worried about what Tyler wanted to talk to me about?
I ticked him carefully. His growl stopped abruptly and he gave me a kind of guilty look. "Lily... oh, damn!" Tyler tore his hair. "I... we... oh man. Let's keep this short and I won't beat around the bush." I raised my eyebrows. Isn't that exactly what he was doing? To beat about the bush? After all, he was just trying to broach whatever topic, and he was still at the beginning. "I don't think we're going to get anywhere like this?" I shrugged my shoulders. If I knew at least a little what it's about.
"I'm going to bite you!" I looked at him, startled. Did I just get him right? "I'm going to bite you!" he repeated. Okay, I heard him right. Tyler wants to bite me. He wants to bite me. "Lily, I know this is a much more sensitive topic for you than it is for other humans, but it's something that's quite normal for werewolves and their mates. We bond even closer. And the second bite. .." Wow, wait a minute! He wants to bite me twice? And then probably in his wolf form.
I don't want to be bitten! Isn't it enough that a werewolf bit me as a child, killed my parents and also put an abrupt end to my childhood?
"Lily, please listen to me I..." Tyler had probably continued to speak, but noticed that I was no longer listening to him. He tried to touch my arm, but I jumped up and moved a little away from him
. "I understand you're scared. If I were you I would be, too." I just got further away from him. He could spare himself his understanding. That wouldn't change anything about his plan anyway.
If I was reading the conversation with Jared correctly, every werewolf knew about the practice and Tyler hadn't told me for so long.
Was probably just waiting for me to trust him more and then do whatever he wanted with me. These beautiful moments that we experienced together were all just steps towards his goal.
My heart felt heavier in my chest.
I was so naive. Had blindly trusted his assurances.
Step by step I got further and further away from Tyler, whose face I couldn't even look at anymore. Instead, I stared at his chest to see if he was standing still or trying to follow me.
But he stayed where he was.
My back hit a door. Without taking my eyes off Tyler, I groped for the handle.
When I got hold of her, I opened the door as fast as I could, entered the room and not a moment later closed the door. I even found a key on this side and locked it.
I was expecting any second for Tyler to appear on the other side of the door, but there was silence.
After a few seconds or minutes I had collected myself a little and turned my eyes away from the door, which I had been staring at intensely before.
Anyway, I ended up in the bathroom.
When I thought about it, it was kind of deja vu. After all, that's how it started between us.
Tears ran down my cheeks.
Oh damn, what was to become of this?
After a while Tyler came to the door, knocked and tried to talk to me. He had tried to get me out of the bathroom and then wanted to continue talking, but I couldn't get out. So that he couldn't force the door open with his strength, I had sat down against it with my back. But he hadn't tried it for three minutes. I had only heard Tyler sigh once more. Shortly after, I could hear Tyler actually leaving the house without me.
I waited a little longer. Counted to 100 internally. Then, when I was sure that Tyler was a long way from the house, I unlocked the bathroom door. I almost expected Tyler to show up again, but that didn't happen.
So I left the bathroom, honestly not expecting Tyler to be back anytime soon. I sat back down on the sofa. What should I do now? My eyes were still itchy from crying and my mind was playing horror scenarios of Tyler biting me, presumably in his wolf form.
Just thinking about it made me sick.
"Hey." Startled, I turned towards the door. "It's fine, it's just me, Luke," the twin spoke to me and took a few steps further into the room. With the best will in the world I hadn't noticed how he entered the house.
"Jared told me what your conversation was about and it looks like Tyler didn't have a good hand on the subject, like many werewolves by the way. May I sit down?" Luke asked me, pointing to the chair across from me. I just nodded, was tense and actually expected Tyler to appear here any second. My eyes darted to the door again and again.
"Don't worry, Tyler won't be back anytime soon. Jared will take care of that. But well, let's get to why I'm here. I can assume that your companion, like many others, acted rather stupidly in his explanations. For a human, and especially for you, it might sound pretty disturbing that werewolves bite their mates. But there is a reason for this. Through the bite, saliva or a certain part of the saliva is transferred from the respective wolf to the human. The bite itself takes place in the form of a wolf, since the teeth in our human form are not as sharp and would only lead to unnecessarily severe pain when bitten.
A cold shiver ran down my back. Just the thought of those huge teeth digging into my body. I remembered quite well how long I was in pain after the wolf attack when I was a child.
"Oh Lily, I know you think it's really cruel. Especially since you've been hurt before as a child, but your companion would never bite you if you were in a panic. In the past, it was even customary not to tell your companions anything about the bite, so that they would not be afraid. But let's get back to the reason for the bite. Because of the specific ingredient in our saliva, the mate, and only the mate, can infect his mate with werewolf-ness, if you want to put it that way."
Did that mean exactly what I thought? Would that make me a werewolf too?
"It looks like you got the reason now. You, like many werewolf companions before you, will become one yourself. Unfortunately, the companion bite, as we call it, is not quite enough for this. This will infect you, but werewolfhood doesn't erupt without a second bite, the Alpha Bite."
