The evening yesterday came to an end fairly quickly after the subject of the 'fugitives'. Jared, who was actually hoping to join as a future beta, wasn't chosen by the alpha to grab the humans. He was even a little jealous, since Luke, as one of the pack's doctors, would be there when the humans arrived to check them for potentially dangerous diseases.
Anyway, it was the next morning. As I gathered from yesterday's conversation, the squad of werewolves had set off in the early hours of the morning and now everyone seemed to be waiting to hear about it. More and more time passed and nothing happened. Even here in the large dining room he was very quiet. Only a few spoke in whispers, even the children who were here hardly made any noise.
But suddenly a werewolf stormed through the door, he looked around for a moment and then stopped with his eyes on our group of three.
"Jared!" he called: "Luke, he found your mate!"
For a brief moment Jared seemed frozen. But the next moment he jumped up, overcame all obstacles that were between him and the door at werewolf speed and the next moment he was already storming out of the room.
"But..." said the wolf in the door, but Jared was already gone.
"But what?" Tyler wanted to know from him. There was an eerie silence in the room. All eyes were on the werewolf, who was still standing in the doorway to the hall.
"The girl, as well as her presumed family, tried to kill themselves together, mostly successfully."
"Damn it!" Tyler cursed and stormed off himself, presumably after Jared, leaving me here alone. I looked after him uncertainly while the werewolves present murmured softly.
Milo suddenly appeared next to me. I hadn't even noticed before that he was in the room too.
"Come on." He said, "If this ends badly, your mate shouldn't be alone. He got along well with the twins, especially Jared, otherwise he wouldn't have made him his beta and wouldn't either spend so much time with him."
I looked at Milo, startled. A bad ending...
A cold shiver ran down my spine. A werewolf who lost his mate... Well, in this case it was two werewolves.
What had Luke said again last night: the probability was more of a bad ending.
Milo and I left the room. I felt dozens of pairs of eyes on me.
As we were leaving the big building, the Alpha and the Luna came towards us. Both were emotionless, but the alpha stayed next to us.
that a human mate is useful even before she turns into a wolf. Because I very much doubt that your companion in his grief will even remotely think of changing you." The alpha turned away from me and looked at Milo seriously. "You know where you have to take her?"
"Yes Alpha."
The sight I saw was disturbing.
While one twin sat on the floor, face streaming tears and rocking back and forth like a terrified toddler, the other twin paced like a caged predator, breathing rapidly and seeming to think about the building next to us to storm where the treatment rooms were located.
The door to the building opened. Suddenly the twins were on their feet and standing in front of Patrick. However, he didn't say a word and simply left the building. The twins looked at each other in confusion, but then both stormed into the building. Tyler walked up to me and hugged me. "She survived. I don't know if Jared and Luke were aware of it at the moment, but if their mate had died after one of them saw and recognized them, they would have noticed immediately. I knew a werewolf who also lost his mate to suicide and wasn't with her at the time, but he realized it at the same time."
I looked at him calmly. The twins, unlike many other werewolves, were friendly and I liked them both. However, I could understand that her companion had tried to kill herself. There were already enough people who grew up among the werewolves and fugitives were a whole new category.
Tyler broke the hug and took my hands in his. "Let's see the twins. Of course, only if that's okay with you."
I nodded, but to be honest I was wondering if we should really go in there right now. After all, the girl almost killed herself because she was surrounded by werewolves. If so, then as good as it was for her to be in a room with several werewolves, it was more than questionable for me.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN!" One of the twins suddenly yelled. Surprised, Tyler and I looked at each other. "Come on." Tyler said, pulling me into the building behind him.
However, we did not go into the room where the twins and their mate were. We stopped in front of the door, which was ajar, and Tyler knocked softly on the door. One of the twins opened the door a little but stayed in the frame. The other twin, which I assumed was Luke, controlled all the monitors the girl was hooked up to. The girl herself was still unconscious. She looked unhealthily pale, even though her skin was probably quite tanned from all the sun she got in her life as a 'fugitive'. Her lips also looked rather bluish. With her dark hair framing her face, she almost looked like Snow White.
"And?" Tyler asked worried. "She will probably fall into a coma." Jared tore his hair: "Patrick wrote down a few things, but Luke has to deal with them. I'm just not familiar with this medical stuff." He seemed completely at the end of his nerves and his eyes glittered suspiciously. Things didn't look any better for Luke either. He had his back to us, but he did he trembled quite a bit and breathed audibly loud.
"I'll be there for you if you need me. We'll give you some rest and hope for the best with you." "Thank you." Jared mumbled softly.
Tyler and I exited the building. He sighed. ,,Oh man. The twins don't face an easy decision. If the girl really falls into a vegetative state, it is more than questionable whether she will get out of it again. While Jared and Luke could survive, as long as their mate's heart is still beating, it's also quite a conscientious decision. After all, you don't know for sure if she might be suffering or not, and no werewolf would want his or her mate to suffer."
