It was kind of surreal. Tyler's surprise was now a few days ago and we were really on our way. To my delight, Tyler and I were able to take a car for most of the way and I only had to travel a short distance on him in his wolf form. We sat together in the back seat and a wolf, who was one of the few who could actually still drive a car, drove us in the direction of my home. It was the first time that I was fully conscious in a vehicle.
Due to the rule of the werewolves, people were bound to the cities. Except for a few farm workers, no one left the city regularly, and these were closely monitored in their work. In the cities, people moved by subway or tram. According to the werewolves, people didn't need more and it worked. They were probably right about that, but there were still some rumors that earlier, not long after the takeover, many people were not happy with it. It was even said that almost everyone even had their own car, today that sounds completely unimaginable.
We had been traveling for a few hours before we finally reached the fields around the towns. Since it was almost dark, you could no longer see workers in the fields.
However, just before the great walls that surrounded my hometown, the car turned right. I looked questioningly at Tyler, confused by the change of direction.
"We're sleeping in a pack guesthouse outside of town." I nodded in understanding. A few minutes later the corresponding building came into view. The guesthouse here was vastly larger than the one Tyler and I had lived in. It had already something of a mansion, but was not in the least comparable to the monster of a pack house we now lived in. It was still much too big for two people, but was almost elegant and didn't hit you with pomp and pomp.
The car stopped. Only now did I see that some people were standing in front of the building. Tyler gave me a brief meaningful look, grabbed my hand and opened the door. "Alpha." Said the two men in front of the building at the same time
and bowed their heads.
"We have prepared everything," said one. "We hope everything is to your satisfaction."
Tyler just rolled his eyes: "We've been on the road for a long time. I hope the food is ready."
"Of course Alpha.", the two people spoke again synchronously.
I looked from one to the other in confusion. It was somewhere between creepy and funny.
"Come on, I'm hungry and you probably are too, aren't Lily?" He smiled at me. I nodded. In fact, I could really use something to eat. We were making our way to the building and the two men almost ran into each other passed us to open the door for the Alpha,
and still with his head down, one of them gave directions to the dining room.
Since Tyler didn't bother with our stuff that was still in the car, I assumed that one of the other werewolves would probably take care of it for you.
In the dining room itself there was a large, sumptuously set table with only two chairs facing each other.
"Okay... That's a bit much decoration." I nodded. There was no other way to describe it. Apart from the two seats set with plates and cutlery, the table almost bowed under the weight of the decoration. The table seemed complete overloaded.
"But well, we won't stay long. Tomorrow you have your day with your sister, then we'll spend the night here again and then we'll go back to our pack."
I looked at Tyler in surprise. Our pack?
It was maddening. In the meantime, the next day had finally dawned and Tyler and I, accompanied by the two werewolves, were able to enter the city and were quickly taken to a building that I already knew from hearing.
The guard house.
This building was in a completely different part of the city than I lived in, but it looked exactly like people said it did. Even if only a few people had actually seen it anyway and even fewer had come back. Although we humans were not forbidden to be in this part of the city, most humans avoided this area as if it were hell itself. This was because there were many buildings and institutions here that were relevant to werewolves. So there were a lot of them running around here. Since werewolves were not usually too friendly towards humans, encounters were avoided as much as possible. In addition, here was the prison and werewolves were supposed to have fun parading the people they captured. Many people brought here
Anyway, Tyler and I were in the guard house now and if I had known the meeting would be here I would have asked Tyler if it couldn't have been rescheduled somehow. The building had a very negative connotation in the opinion of the people.
To my amazement, the inside of the building was adorned with very expensive furniture and decor. Huge paintings and statues made of glass and marble. Dozens of rooms had been filled with oodles of it. And I only knew all of this because apparently the werewolves here warned Tyler to show every single piece of art here. But the lead seemed to have finally come to an end. I didn't really listen to the werewolf, but he must have said goodbye. He left Tyler and I alone in front of a door. I looked up at Tyler.
"Are you ready to see your sister again?"
I nodded and pointed to the door.
"Yes, she's already there, you can go in."
I looked at him questioningly. Didn't he want to come with you?
As so often, he seemed to understand my gaze right away.
"No, go in alone first. You haven't seen each other for months, so I'd probably just be a nuisance right now. I'll get to that later. But now you have time for yourselves, just you and your sister."
I smiled gratefully at Tyler. It was probably better that way for the beginning. After all, Maria never really had anything to do with werewolves and after the murder of ours She was understandably afraid of her parents.
I took another deep breath, mentally preparing myself to meet my sister, and put my hand on the doorknob.
Happy to see my sister soon, I opened the door and stepped into the room. I closed the door behind me.
The room was empty compared to the others in this building. Maria was sitting in a chair with her back to me.
Even from a distance I could see her shaking.
I walked towards her with quick steps. You shouldn't be scared unnecessarily.
When I finally stood next to her after a few steps, she looked up, startled.
She stared at me wide-eyed for a few seconds. You could see that she was completely overwhelmed with the situation.
However, I was just happy to see her. She looked almost the same as the last time we saw each other. Well maybe almost the same, she seemed to have lost some weight though not much.
Finally she seemed to have caught something again, one word escaped her lips in any case: "Lily!"
