Since I was bad at addressing Tyler, I started staring at him. I didn't really have a choice about anything else, although...
It would be an opportunity to get away from here. After all, there was nobody around here except Tyler and me.
But where should I go? I had no idea where I was and where I could go.
And wouldn't the werewolves just be able to track me down?
The good sense of smell was notorious even among us humans, as was their speed, which was far in excess of that of a human being.
Just as I decided to look around, Tyler seemed to snap his mind back to the here and now and looked at me. He sighed.
"We have a problem," he said to me. I looked at him in concern. I was a bit confused as to what I had to do with this, but if it affected me, I wanted to know what it was about. Tyler however, was silent.
We stood there for about a minute without him saying anything. So slowly I was there enough to wait. Couldn't he just start talking? Even if it was something horrible. As the saying goes: better an end with horror than horror without end. Seems like this is going to be my favorite saying now.
"The letter...", he finally began. I took a deep breath of relief and wanted to encourage him to continue talking with a slight smile. I never expected that a werewolf could be so insecure and overwhelmed, after all it worked the ones I've met so far have always been self-confident and vain.
"He comes from the Alpha." I looked at him, briefly overwhelmed. I had just lost the thread for a moment, but I remembered what he was actually talking about. The letter.
But his answer made little sense to me. Did he want to express in this one again that his father, who was obviously the alpha of the pack, gave him the letter? Or was that referring to another alpha?
We humans did not climb 100% through the whole system of werewolves in their packs, but it was also clear to us that there was far more than just one alpha in the world. We didn't know how many, but very few people were interested anyway.
I raised my eyebrows and tried to make my face as questioning as possible so that Tyler could explain this in more detail. It would probably be easier if I could just raise an eyebrow, but I've never been able to.
"Okay, that doesn't seem to mean anything to you." He interpreted my expression: "I'm talking about the alpha. He's not just a regular alpha like my father is, he's the one who even the regular alphas report to. He was leading his pack before the revolution and it was him who had the idea."
My questioning look changed to a horrified one. The revolution that brought the werewolves to power was many years ago. How old was he please? And why did he send Tyler a letter?
In the eyes of many people, he was a ferocious monster, far worse than any other werewolf. According to the people, he was the one responsible for the murder of millions, if not billions, of innocent people. He is more or less directly responsible for all human suffering, as it was all at his orders.
"I can see from your facial expression that you now know who I'm talking about. Well, the letter is an invitation," Tyler swallowed, "But there's no way I can cancel. I have to go there and as my companion you have to accompany me."
Wasn't he serious now? Werewolves don't like humans at all, and this one is certainly no exception. Why should I go with you? Couldn't I just stay here? I would even stay in the room or whatever the alternative would be just to not have to go. I shook my head. I wouldn't take part in that.
Tyler seemed to ignore me for the last 15 minutes.
Since I tried to make it clear to him that I wasn't going with him, he only sighed once and took me back to the room. At first I assumed that he would accept my decision, but in the room he started packing a large bag with things for him and for me.
If I got in his way or wanted to take things away from him that were meant for me, he just pushed me aside and ignored my obvious objections.
But at some point Tyler seemed to be at the end of his tether. He put the bag aside and walked towards me, forcing me to sit on the bed.
"Lily, what's all this about? I can understand that you don't want to go there and believe me, I can also imagine something more pleasant, but we have no other choice. Believe me, you don't want to know what happens when you disobey an alpha, especially when it comes to the alpha . And...", he hesitated briefly: "And if you don't calm down I would have to drug you for the journey, you would appear there unconscious. Do you really want to be so helpless at the first meeting with this pack?"
My mind raced. Would Tyler really do that? Stun me again?
A look at his serious face was answer enough.
He would do it if he had to, although he certainly didn't want to. So it depends on how I behave further.
"Just try to trust me," Tyler almost begged, but could I?
He was a werewolf, and that's why I probably won't ever see my sister again. Besides, he drugged me already and almost abducted. But he had otherwise treated me well and was also friendly towards me, even seemed to be worried about me.
I looked into his eyes. Only now did I really notice how beautiful his eyes actually were. A beautiful light brown I couldn't take my eyes off it, I was spellbound.
Something touched my face, but I took it lightly, still my attention was on Tyler's eyes.
It seemed to me that he was getting closer and closer to me. The feeling was that his hands were cupping my face. What happened here?
A dull noise broke my rigidity. My gaze broke away from Tyler's and sought the source of the noise. I turned my head and his hands pulled away from my face.
"The bag fell over," said Tyler, still looking at me. When I looked back at him, his face was only a few inches away from mine. What happened here? Did he want me
...
No , it couldn't be, could it?
Suddenly Tyler made a face.
"Oh little one, you're just cute when you look at me like that," he said, overcoming the last distance and pressing a light kiss on the corner of my mouth.
My facial expression seemed to be really funny because Tyler got a big grin on the face and obviously had to suppress a laugh. Finally he snorted loudly and couldn't stop himself.
The door yanked open, slamming into the wall and surely making a dent there. Tyler's mother stood in the doorway. She seemed quite the opposite of pleased.
"WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?" she yelled so loudly through the room my ears were ringing.
Tyler was suddenly dead serious again.
"Mother, everything is fine." He probably wanted to brush her off now. But she wasn't easily swayed. She came into the room, pushed her son aside and stopped short in front of me.
"You still haven't taken that brat. Your father made me his the day we first met. Don't be such a coward and just do it."
