Oddly enough, we hadn't met anyone in the whole packhouse.
But now that we were standing in front of the door of the great hall, you could clearly hear that there were a few people there.
Tyler opened the door.
I looked around the room in surprise.
There were far more people here than usual
. They even brought in extra tables so that everyone had a seat.
"They're all here because of you." Tyler whispered in my ear.
There was a lot of activity in the hall. Some had already noticed us, but they kept talking to their neighbors. "
Come on, let's eat," said Tyler and took my hand in his.
Together we went to our table.
As soon as we sat down, some of the people working in the kitchen came in and served us tons of food.
All kinds of meals were also covered.
From things that really go well with breakfast to hot meals.
I looked questioningly across the table.
"You should have some choices. The kitchen didn't let itself be ragged and prepared many things for you. So you can eat whatever you want."
I survey the array of plates and bowls again. Is
that really supposed to be all for me?
But it seemed to be, because in front of Tyler was just a plate of his breakfast, all the rest had been arranged around me.
I looked uncertainly from one dish to the next.
Actually, I still didn't really feel like eating, but a lot of work had certainly been done with all the dishes.
What else did Tyler say to me. The pack wanted to be on good terms with their future Luna.
Which was probably pretty understandable.
I would certainly try to look good towards someone who could soon decide about me.
As Luna, I would already have a certain amount of power.
Even if the construction here was more like a last meal than an honor.
The word 'survive' flashed through my mind again.
Perhaps this was really intended as a kind of hangman's meal.
One last meal that would grant all wishes before perhaps dying.
But was that even realistic?
A quick glance at Tyler calmed me down a bit.
He seemed relaxed and not at all worried.
And he would do this if something happened to me, after all I was his companion.
I mean for a werewolf the loss of a mate would be catastrophic, then he could never be so relaxed.
"Lily? Is everything okay?", Tyler asked me.
Surprised, I had to blink a few times. I had probably been staring at Tyler for a few seconds.
I nodded quickly.
"Okay.", he drawled and looked at me skeptically.
"Here, try the waffles. They smell really good."
Smiling, he handed me the plate with a good half dozen waffles.
But I could still see concern in his eyes.
It was like a silent question to myself, but I just shook my head and took the plate from him.
I put this on the table in front of me and Tylef was right they smelled really good
I took a waffle off the plate and bit into it.
It was very tasty, even though I wasn't really enjoying it right now.
Suddenly someone ticked me from the side, confused I looked to the side where actually nobody was and I saw little girl.
She seemed excited and had a piece of paper in her hand.
"I drew you," she said quickly, handing me the note.
Just as I took it, she turned and ran away.
I looked at the note and stopped. The picture of the child wasn't anything special now A work of art, but it was surprisingly easy to see what she drew:
a wolf.
My sense of time seemed to be completely messed up.
On the one hand, it seemed to me that minutes would drag on forever and, on the other hand, hours literally flew by.
It was almost like a state of limbo.
Sometimes I was even unsure whether I was sleeping after all.
We stayed in the hall.
Eventually Jared came to us and kept us company.
Although I honestly didn't really get what he and Tyler were talking about.
It was probably werewolf themes anyway, which I couldn't understand at all.
Actually, I knew very little about the lives of werewolves, at least considering that I'd spent weeks here with them.
I had already looked around the room several times to see if there was a clock or something similar to be found somewhere. But unfortunately nothing of the sort could be found.
However, I was all the more shocked when almost everyone left the room at once.
I looked at Tyler confused, but he was already watching me carefully.
"It's about to start," he said quietly to me, looking meaningfully into my eyes.
My heart felt like it skipped a beat.
Already? Was it really that late?
Tyler got up and stood next to my chair.
Except for the two of us, only Jared was in the room, who, like Tyler, didn't take his eyes off me.
"Now we could break it all off. But as soon as we leave the pack house, there's no going back."
I looked at Tyler with wide eyes.
Now was really the very last opportunity to put an end to the whole thing.
But I just got incredibly brave and got up determinedly Tyler and Jared both looked surprised, and to be honest, I
was surprised at myself too.
"I'll be on my way then." Jared said and left us alone.
Shortly before leaving the hall, he turned to us again and winked at me.
He seemed to want to encourage me and somehow seemed to want to it too, if only for a few moments.
Tyler took my hand and together we silently made our way out of the packhouse.
We stopped outside the door for a moment.
Tyler got rid of his things but stayed in his human form for a moment.
"You know where you have to go?"
I nodded.
"Well, now do me a favor and just remember that I love you and will always be by your side."
He pulled me close, lifted my chin and kissed my lips.
Then he let go of me. Take two steps back and transform into a wolf.
He stayed with me for a moment, pressed against me and then ran at a brisk pace in the direction I should be going in the same way.
I allowed myself to stay here for a moment.
Right now would be the perfect time to get out of here. The whole pack was elsewhere, even Tyler wouldn't be here to stop me now. But that was no longer an issue.
Taking one step at a time, I walked in the direction Tyler had gone.
At first my steps were uncertain, but I became a little more confident with each step.
I knew why I was doing it.
Having no way back just made it oddly easier.
There were no different options that all had their advantages and disadvantages, only this one.
After a few minutes I could already see where the pack was waiting for me.
A circle formed by hundreds of wolves. And already I felt the first glances on me.
