I shyly averted my gaze and stared into space.
The stranger's gaze seemed to go straight through me. I felt uncomfortable. Oddly enough, probably at the same time. An indescribable warmth flooded my body when I looked into his green eyes earlier.
I felt like I was at home. Once in a lifetime.
"Hunter, we have to go now! The doorbell rang."
His companion's voice made us both look at him.
"It rang!" he repeated again.
The boy, whose name must have been Hunter, seemed to want to tell him something. It was like revealing his thoughts because the next second his friend seemed startled and his gaze fell on me.
"Fucking shit. Right now."
I was getting too stupid, so I just left them both and hurried away.
Great, first day and I was already late.
I knocked on the door before opening it.
"Who are you?" the teacher asked kindly.
"I'm Luna Adams!" I said shyly.
She seemed to see a light, because she looked at me knowingly.
"Ahh, Ms. Adams. Nice to meet you. I'm Mrs. Bennet. You can sit right back there. Actually, I'd spare you sitting with Mr. Lewis, but that's the only empty seat."
...
Now I knew why Mrs. Bennet didn't want me to sit next to Jacob. Yes, he introduced himself extensively to me.
The sound of the bell was like music to my ears. I quickly packed up my books and ran out the door.
"Luna, wait!", I heard his annoying voice and a short time later he grabbed my arm.
"I have to be in the next class!" I said acidly.
"We're in the same class. Let me accompany you."
"No!" God, I wish I could say he annoys me. I could safely do without his senseless pick-up lines.
"Hey Jacob, just let her go!" I heard a lovely voice say.
I looked to the right and saw a pretty pretty girl. Her brown hair was messily tied up in a bun, but it still looked good. Her green eyes literally shone.
"Ella, she wants it herself."
I try to free myself from Jacob's grip, but I felt that this was now painful.
"You're hurting her. Let her go or I'll get the teacher."
"She can't do anything anyway."
"You know I'm stronger than you, Jacob. I'll take you down."
Jacob seemed to get angry. was that right? The girl, named Ella, seemed just as petite as me. Jacob, on the other hand, was quite muscular and almost a head taller.
"Once. And that's only because I let you. After all, you're a girl."
"Oh fine. Then I'll get my brother."
The next second Jacob let go of me and quickly scooted away.
"Thank you!" I said to Ella.
"He's an idiot and quite a womanizer. He sees you as his new prey since you're new. I'm Ella, by the way."
"Luna."
She giggled and said, "Your name...is very interesting."
"Uh thanks?" I said confused.
"I like your name but we can talk about that later. Come on I'll take you to the next class and this time I'll sit with you."
...
During the break, Ella literally pulled me outside. She had pretty good stamina and never seemed to get out of breath.
"Let me introduce you to my people. Hey!" she called to a larger group.
A few seconds later I felt several eyes on me.
"Who do you have there?" asked a blond haired boy who looked pretty cute.
Ella rolled her eyes in annoyance and said, "So the idiot here is Kyle. This is Emma, Louis, Summer, Jake-"
Wait, I already knew this Jake from this morning.
"Mary und Sophie."
She seemed to look around and suddenly looked behind me.
"Oh and this is my brother Hunter and...Zoe."
I automatically turned and met Hunter's mysterious eyes. He seemed tense. My gaze fell on the black-haired girl who was clutching his arm.
Suddenly Hunter shook her off and mumbled something under her breath. She seemed offended and stalked off again. Then his eyes fell on me again.
"Hunter?" Ella asked him.
He seemed to want to say something to her, because suddenly her eyes widened as well. Just like this morning with Jake.
"Oh, now I'm speechless!" she said softly.
"Why?" everyone asked except Jake.
Ella smiled again and pulled me towards her.
"Funnily enough, her name is Luna."
Luna?
Her name had to be Luna, of all things?
I tried to control myself. When we first met, I didn't want to let her go. But I had no other choice.
Nobody was allowed to know that I found my mate. That she was my mate.
Everyone except Jake and my sister who was grinning at me.
"I have to go then!", the lovely voice of my soul mate suddenly announced.
I balled my hands into fists and held my breath. Her scent alone drove me crazy. It took a lot of effort not to pounce on her.
"Are you alright, Hunter?" Louis asked.
"Yeah, I just need to have a quick word with Ella and Jake. It's important pack business."
Louis nodded understandably and went back into the building with the others.
I ran my fingers through my hair in desperation.
"So she really is your mate?" my sister asked.
I looked at her sternly.
"You must never say that out loud again! If anyone finds out..."
"But, she's your soul mate! You found her, Hunter! Be happy about it. Not everyone is that lucky."
"You know very well that there is no future between the two of us."
She snorted derisively.
"Yes, you love Zoe so much!" she said sarcastically.
"Ella!" I admonished her angrily.
"So you want to miss your chance? It's destiny that she's here. Don't you think so too?"
"You don't understand!" I said angrily.
"Yeah, I don't understand how anyone can be so stupid!"
With these words she left Jake and me alone and angrily stormed into the building. I sighed loudly.
"Aren't you going to explain it to her? She would understand if you told her the truth!" said my beta.
"No. That stays between us."
"Hunter, I know you don't want to hear this. But do you really think it's wise to ignore your soulmate?"
"You know the reason!"
"Yes, but we are a strong pack. We will protect her in any way we can. You don't have to be afraid that something will happen to her. Do you really want to marry Zoe just because you don't care about her and you don't have to be afraid for her ?"
I looked desperately at my best friend and answered his question: "It's better. She would always be in danger. Besides, she can never be my mate. She's human."
"Does that mean you find her weak? Because you're a hybrid ?" he asked.
"Exactly because I'm a hybrid. It's not because she's human."
"Then what is it?"
"I'll never be able to tag her! If I bite her, she'll become a vampire. This is something I could never do to her. Zoe, on the other hand, is a werewolf. Her body can expel the venom, so I'm only allowed to tag a werewolf ."
Jake looked at me pitifully. He knew I was telling the truth. He also knew that he couldn't help me here.
My fate was already sealed. I had no choice but to make Zoe my mate. Because that's the only way I can protect my little Luna.
...
"We really need to get this sorted out today!" I said to my beta. We have been informed that vampire sightings have increased in this town.
We are in the sports hall, because now we had sports. Of course, we werewolves had a huge advantage in this lesson.
The gym was quite large, so we shared it with my sister's class. We had to wear a sports uniform.
The boys wore clothes similar to those worn by a basketball player.
The girls, on the other hand, wear very tight shorts and a shirt.
In my opinion, this was far too revealing. I had to make sure no one hit on my sister. Well, I exude a certain danger. This was also the reason why everyone kept away from my sister.
"Hunter!" I heard a screeching voice.
Shortly thereafter, Zoe was already clinging to my arm.
"Hey sweetie!", one of my classmates addresses Zoe and - like every time - checks her outfit from top to bottom.
Zoe seemed to like it, but she still spoke to me: "See Hunter looking at me? Your mate! Do something."
I rolled my eyes.
"Go back to your class."
As if I would get jealous because of her. I wasn't the jealous type. I didn't know this feeling.
"Oho, who's the new girl?" I heard someone whisper.
"She's really hot!" I heard another.
I quickly turned around and automatically clenched my hands.
At the other end of the hall, I saw her. Just like everyone else, she too wore those revealing clothes that I was more than cursing at the moment.
She was perfect in every way. The only problem was that others were allowed to see them that way.
I unconsciously started to growl. I was angry. Angry at anyone who ogled her.
I noticed myself that Luna was quite uncomfortable in the clothes. She kept tugging at it and trying to pull her shirt down.
Suddenly my sister looked at me and grinned.
"You don't need to be jealous."
I started growling again.
" Hunter, this is getting weird!" I heard Jake via mind-link.
"Jake, if you don't do something soon, I'll lose control. I can hear her being adored."
"You're jealous!" he stated, amused.
"I'm not. Now do something about it."
Jake grinned at me and quickly left. Those seconds felt endless and I struggled to control myself.
What felt like an eternity later, the fire alarm sounded and released me.
