What are you thinking about?" I asked my little mate.
After I put her suitcases in the car, we drove off straight away. Zoe's father would be there soon and I wanted to get there before him.
We didn't speak during the drive because I didn't know what to say. It wasn't an awkward silence. On the contrary. I enjoyed her presence. Her indescribable scent that was distributed throughout the car. Her fast heartbeat, which made me smile. Your nervousness near me.
In my opinion, the journey ended far too quickly. I got out and grabbed Luna's bag straight away. She looked at our house with big eyes and finally looked at me.
"You live here?" she asked perplexed.
"It looks bigger than it is. Lots of other people live here too, so it can get pretty cramped at times."
"Is that something like a home or how am I supposed to understand that?"
"No, it's my family. It's a little complicated, but I promise you, they'll like you."
She seemed quite unsure and followed my first steps like a lost puppy. I stopped right away and she just looked at me questioningly.
"I don't want you to walk behind me. I'm not yours...just come next to me."
She nodded shyly and I pulled myself together not to grab her hand and lead her into the house. It should have been her house as much as it was mine.
I contacted everyone in my pack via Mind-Link:
"One human is in the packhouse. You know what that means."
Nobody was allowed to behave like a werewolf now. We had our rules.
I could see Jake coming down the stairs and looking at me questioningly.
He stood in front of my mate and said, "Luna, isn't it?"
She nodded nervously, which I found incredibly sweet.
"I'm Jake, Hunter's best friend. Are you here with Hunter?"
This was my saying.
"No, she's only sleeping here for a few days. Until her mother comes back. She's...Ella's guest."
"I see. At least I think so."
"We'll talk later. Ella had something to do, so I'll take her upstairs."
"All right. See you. Bye Luna. Nice to see you again."
This time I grabbed Luna's hand and ignored the tingling all over my body. I ignored the looks we were getting and wanted to take her to her room. Which happened to be right next to mine.
"Alpha Hunter!" came the voice I didn't want to hear for at least half an hour.
I released Luna's hand and turned around. In front of me was Zoe's father, Matt. His eyes fell disapprovingly on my mate. I quickly stood in front of her so that her view was blocked for him.
"You are too early."
"I thought I might surprise you. Who do you have there?"
"Nothing in this house is any of your business."
"If the human girl is the reason you're rejecting my daughter, then it's very much my business."
"We'll talk in the office. You know the way."
He tried to get one last glimpse of Luna and finally stalked off.
I turned to her with a sigh. Her gaze was undefined.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"Did he just call you Alpha?"
Mist.
"It's my nickname. That's what most people call me!" I half lied. "Come on, I'll show you your room quickly."
I took her there and said, "Unfortunately, I have to go now. If you need anything, you can ask anyone here. I'm also always there for you. My room is to the left of yours. No matter what time it is, I'm always there for you you there."
"Thanks, really!" she said honestly.
I gave her a smile and said goodbye before going to Matt. My expression fell and I grew serious as I entered my office.
"What did you want to talk about?" I summed up his appearance.
"About Zoe. You still reject her."
I sat down in my chair and looked at him emotionlessly.
"I have no intention of changing that either."
"Hunter, you're playing games. You know what it means if you don't mate with my daughter."
"War!" I said directly.
"I know you're threatening me. But you should know one thing. I'm stronger than your whole pack."
A smile creeps onto Matt's face.
"How good that it will never come to that. You wouldn't break the curse and watch your whole family die."
"I would do anything to save my family."
"What about her? That girl? Does she mean anything to you?"
I tried not to let it show.
"What girl? Do you mean Ella's girlfriend?"
"Why do I have the feeling that she's more than just your sister's friend? So she doesn't mean anything to you?"
"Why should she? She's human. What am I supposed to do with a human?" I asked coldly.
"You know, I like her. Maybe you could let me have her. I would even give you money."
I swallowed and clenched my hands into fists.
"My wife just doesn't satisfy me. You certainly would."
OK, that's enough for me. Before I was about to jump on him and slit his throat, Jake walked in.
"Alpha, we need you."
I took a deep breath and turned my attention back to Matt.
"The conversation is over here. In the future I would refrain from any conversation with you. Zoe and I, that doesn't exist."
Matt glared at me angrily before speaking, "Well, I guess the war has started then."
I looked around. The room was quite nicely furnished and I felt right at home. I put down the bag Hunter had handed me earlier.
Just thinking about his cold gaze gave me goosebumps. I always thought he hated me. But when I saw how coldly he looked at the older man, I knew better.
Hunter was mysterious, quiet and seemed serious. At the same time, however, he was caring, kind, helpful and loving.
Why was he helping me? I was just a girl he had only known for a day. I didn't understand him.
There was a knock on the door and a grinning Ella appeared.
"Hello, roommate!"
"Hi!" I said shyly.
Ella collapsed onto the bed and said, "I actually didn't think Hunter would take you straight away."
"He didn't want me to be alone."
"More likely that he's alone without you!" she murmured.
"What?" I inquired.
"Nothing nothing. Anyway, I thought we could go shopping together. You're new to the city and I need a dress for the ball."
"Welchen Ball?"
"Erm...our family always throws a ball. We call it a mate ball."
I frowned questioningly. So I hadn't heard anything like that before. Mate?
"I hope you'll soon know exactly what it means. But I'm in a positive mood. We're both going to buy clothes now. Because you're going to be the escort of a Watson."
"Watson?"
"My last name. If the idiot doesn't take you, I will."
"I'm not sure, Ella."
"Oh no. I have Hunter's card. He pays!", she smiled happily.
"That would be wrong."
"Wait a minute!"
Her eyes glazed over and she appeared as if she were in a trance. It wasn't a minute before the door slammed against the wall with full force and Hunter's eyes scanned the room until they finally landed on me.
He seemed relieved when he saw me. However, this changed and he glared at Ella angrily.
"That's not funny."
"Well, I find this extremely entertaining, brother."
"Ella, that's no joke. I thought something happened to her!" he said agonizingly.
"I called you for a reason. I want to go shopping and I want Luna to come with me. Do you mind if you pay for her?"
"Ella!" I admonished her with red cheeks.
Hunter's eyes fell on me.
"Of course not."
"I didn't mean to...!" I tried to defend myself.
"Ella, can you leave us alone for a moment?" Hunter asked his sister gently.
She just grinned and got up from the bed.
"Klar!"
When she was gone and Hunter and I were alone, I felt uncomfortable.
"I...-" I tried to say something. However, Hunter beat me to it.
"I know how Ella is. I also know that you wouldn't want to waste other people's money. You don't have to justify yourself, little one. However, I want you to have everything you need here. I want you to accompany Ella . Also, I want you to think of my money as yours too."
"I can't possibly do that. We hardly know each other."
"Luna, it feels like forever to me. I want you to be happy."
"You can't buy happiness!" I said defiantly.
Hunter smiled slightly. "No, but sometimes luck is in front of you and you can't reach for it. No matter how close it seems."
I didn't know what he meant. All I knew was that we weren't talking about clothes and money anymore. It was something more valuable.
"So do me this favor. What's mine is yours."
With these words he left the room and left me thoughtful. What was he implying? What was he really talking about?
...
"What do you think of this dress?" Ella asked me, holding up a blue dress.
"It's nice."
"That's what you said to the other twelve dresses."
"Because you have good taste."
"You know what? I think I'll buy three dresses. Then I'll decide spontaneously."
My cell phone rang and I saw that my mother was calling.
"I'm going outside."
"Hi Mom!" I said and left the store.
"Where the hell are you?" she asked.
"I'm in town. Why?"
"Charles...he left me."
"I thought he was away on business!" I said monotonously.
"What did you do to him? It's your fault that he broke up with me."
"What are you talking about mom? I hardly spoke to him."
I heard her sigh on the other end of the line.
"If I come back and Charles isn't there, then I don't want to see you at home either."
"You can't do that. I'm your daughter."
"You're of legal age. I'm under no obligation to look after you."
With these words she hung up cold and left me shocked. I didn't even realize I accidentally bumped into someone.
"E...sorry."
The young man gave me a warm smile. He had dimples, which made him look cute.
"It doesn't matter. What's your name?"
"Um. Luna."
"I'm happy Luna. I'm Cole."
