"Hunter, calm down!" said my best friend.
I tried it. But even the constant pacing didn't really calm me down.
"Then tell me how to ignore this topic!" I asked Jake angrily.
"You're getting yourself into this way too much."
I tried to suppress my anger. I wanted to grab my best friend by the collar and throw him across the room. Jake seemed to know his comment was anything but okay.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way!" he said with a guilty conscience.
"I know, Jake. Otherwise you'd be a head shorter now."
"How do you want to proceed now? You and Luna have been a couple for half a year. I'll tell you. Every time the full moon approaches, it's harder for you not to tag Luna. Why...why do you Don't you? Before you completely lose control."
"As soon as I tag her and taste her blood, I turn into a hybrid. Worse, she becomes a vampire!"
"But that's the only way you two can be together."
"Maybe she's better off without me."
"You're lucky that you're my best friend. Otherwise I would have punched you for the testimony. Hunter, didn't you ever think that maybe it was meant that way? She's your mate for a reason. Fate was there thought something."
Jake was probably right. However, I wouldn't risk Luna's life for a guess.
"When are you picking her up?" Jake changed the subject.
I glanced at my watch.
"I have to go now. We'll be here in half an hour."
"See you later."
...
Even before Luna opened the door, I could smell her. Her scent had the same effect on me as the strongest drug on humans.
When the door finally opened, my mate beamed shyly at me.
"Hi."
"Hi, my beauty."
I kiss her briefly on the lips and ask, "Ready?"
"Not really."
I gave her an encouraging smile and said, "Don't be afraid. They will love you more than me."
"I doubt it."
"You are their Luna. You are more important than the Alpha."
"But I might disappoint you. I'm human, Hunter."
"Little one, please don't worry. Besides, you've already met most of them."
Luna sighed and finally nodded.
"Fine. Let's get this over with."
A smile formed on my face and I led Luna to my car. Today she would officially meet my pack. Well, our pack. Everyone was excited to finally meet their Luna. Normally, the alpha introduces his wife directly. But I didn't want to overwhelm my mate. She didn't know everything yet. A few months ago she didn't even know we existed and now she had to take on the role of mother to several hundred wolves.
I knew she was pretty excited and nervous. But I also knew that there was no one better than her. She would do well. More than that.
...
"Ready?" I asked, putting my hand on her back.
"No. Not really."
I kissed the top of Luna's head and said calmly, "Don't be afraid. Everything will be fine."
"I doubt it."
I looked at her questioningly.
"Is something wrong? You don't just seem nervous."
"I spoke to Ella. When the Alpha introduces his Luna, he marks her. You don't do it, am I right? Why? Because then it's final?"
Damn you, Ella.
I pulled my mate over to me by the waist and said, "Little one, don't be scared. If it were up to me, I would have tagged you the first time we met. But I don't know what happens then."
"Because I'm human. I know."
"Little..."
"Can I go to the bathroom?" she asked me.
"Sure, I'll accompany you."
I led Luna towards the house and spoke to Jake via telepathy. The pack meeting took place in a secluded place. Near the pack house.
"Wait here. I'll be back in 2 minutes."
I noticed that she needed space, so I just nodded.
Barely a minute passed before I got an uneasy feeling. Something was wrong. I ran upstairs with supernatural speed and stopped in shock.
"What are you doing here?" I tried to stay calm. But my body was already betraying me. I was about to explode.
"I'm disappointed you didn't invite me. After all, Luna and I are friends. Even though we haven't seen each other since you two were a couple."
"Let. her. Go!" I growl.
It took a great effort not to run over and cut off his head. But his knife was at Luna's throat and I knew that one wrong move would cost her death.
Luna's eyes told me how scared she was. They were filled with tears and their whole bodies were shaking with fear.
"Nothing will happen to her. But you will do what I tell you."
Cole looked at me hatefully. His grip on Luna tightened. My anger bigger.
"Don't. touch. her!" I growled angrily.
"You want her back alive? First of all, you won't make contact with your pack. If I sense someone near, I'll slit the little one's throat. Even you can't react that quickly."
The thought of it almost brought my werewolf to the surface. But I couldn't lose my control.
"Good. You know I'm right. Next, get in your car. You drive while I hold Luna in the back."
I took a deep breath and looked into my mate's eyes. I made her a silent promise. I would save her and I would get her out of there.
It was hard to take my eyes off the two of them as I headed for my car. Closely followed by Luna and Cole.
"Well, now I'll tell you where to go!" said the bastard as he took a seat in the back.
"We get off first."
We had been driving for about two hours and every single second had felt excruciating. When Cole got off with Luna, I did the same.
"Let her go. You wanted me, am I right?"
"Yes. I will kill you, Hunter. But she will watch."
Luna's eyes widened with shock. It won't come to that, I wanted to say to her. However, remained silent.
"Off to the hall with you."
Cole directed me into the empty hall and pointed to a bottle that was on the table.
"Trink das."
I grabbed the glass bottle and opened the cap. The stench of verbena flooded my nostrils.
"Trink es aus."
At that amount, I would pass out right away and be debilitated for days.
"Let her go and I will."
"Not until you drink it."
Without hesitation, I put the neck of the bottle to my lips and drank the drink. My body burned and my throat felt like I was drinking acid.
...
"Hunter, please wake up."
I shook him, trying to control my tears. He had been unconscious for what felt like hours. When he passed out, Cole left the two of us alone in the hall. He knew Hunter couldn't even get up to flee. I, on the other hand, was just too weak to save him. Our cell phones were taken from us and it was dark by now. They must have been looking for us and I really hoped that we would be found soon.
"Hunter, please stand up."
His body moved slightly and he croaked in pain. When his eyelids opened, he looked straight into my eyes and seemed relieved. His head was on my lap and I stroked his hair.
"Are...are you alright?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
"He didn't do anything to me. How are you feeling? Can you get up."
He tried, but didn't move two millimeters.
"You have to get out of here, Luna. I can't move. Get to safety."
Tears ran down my cheeks and I shook my head vigorously.
"No, there's no way I'm going to leave you alone."
"You have to. Verbena weakens my werewolf."
"Next time he's here he'll kill you. You're not just a werewolf. You're a hybrid."
"This side is suppressed."
"Not if you drink blood."
"No!" he whispered angrily.
"Hunter, you either drink my blood or you die. I won't let that happen."
"You're going to... you're going to be a vampire."
"I don't mind. As long as I have you by my side."
"Luna...you will regret it. One day."
"Never. I love you Hunter and I want to be with you forever."
I bent down so his mouth was right under my neck.
"Do it, Hunter. I trust you."
A second later, I felt him bite me. Emotions flooded my body and I felt that my love for Hunter had intensified. I knew he was tagging me. That we were one forever and will remain one for all eternity.
I stared at the blue sea. The sea breeze felt nice on my skin.
Two warm arms wrapped themselves around my body and I automatically leaned back. My other half kissed my head.
"How is my beautiful wife?" Hunter asked me.
"I am doing well."
"What are you thinking about?"
"Of the last few years. I have a bad conscience."
"You don't have to. I'm happy because I have you. You."
"Dad!" Ayla screamed and ran towards us.
Hunter pulled away from me and lifted the little girl into his arms.
I smiled at the sight. Ayla was five years old. Although she was not our biological daughter, we raised her as our daughter.
Ayla was Ella's great granddaughter. She died a few years ago, as did everyone else. Hunter and I haven't aged since the incident with Cole. Vampires didn't age. Unfortunately, werewolves do. When Hunter tagged me, we both turned into vampires. Well, with Hunter, his oppressed side was released. He was able to kill Cole that same evening.
For me it was difficult. The thirst for blood was great, but with Hunter by my side, I had great support.
This event is already 76 years ago and still it seemed like yesterday. Hunter lost his entire family in recent years. It was hard for him to watch them grow older and weaker. But each of them had children, and these in turn had more children.
Aylas' mother died giving birth. Her father couldn't stand it and died of grief. I had heard this happen many times. When your soulmate dies, it doesn't take long for you to die of grief yourself.
Hunter and I didn't hesitate to take Ayla in. She looked like Ella, Hunter's sister. We occasionally took vacations so Hunter didn't have to agonize over his daily alpha duties. He didn't have much to do anymore because no one dared to attack us anymore. Everyone was scared of the hybrid and I couldn't blame them.
Hunter gave me a smile and pulled me close to his body.
"I love you. Both of you!" he said sincerely.
"I love you too, Hunter. For eternity."
"Forever..."
"...and forever."
