"I know, but don't worry. I'm leaving town tonight!" I tried to calm her down.
"Was? Wieso?"
"It's better if I'm not near you on the night of the full moon."
She gave me a questioning look, but I tried to change the subject, "It's pretty late. Get some sleep. We can talk when you're awake."
She seemed to get nervous and looked around. "It would be better to go back home."
"No, I want you to sleep here. Besides, it's way too late."
"But my mom..."
"I already know, don't worry. I'll let you get some sleep now and I'll take you to her today before I go away."
She just nodded absently and I got up. I said goodbye to her with a kiss on the forehead and left the room.
A stone fell from my heart for knowing the truth now. Especially for not repelling me.
The downside, however, was that Luna was now a target for everyone. By now everyone should know that she was my mate. The reason to weaken and knock out a hybrid.
I headed into the garden, which was still full of my pack members. After the gala, they didn't sleep directly, but enjoyed the night sky. When they saw me, everyone greeted me straight away.
"First of all, I would like to congratulate those who mated today and at the same time apologize for not being able to be there as your alpha. You may have already noticed, but I have found my mate. Your Luna."
Cheers erupted among themselves, which made me smile straight away.
"You may have seen her already. It's Luna, Ella's friend."
"You mean the human girl?" one inquired.
"Yes. Do you have a problem with that?" I asked angrily.
I expected a completely different reaction. But not this one. Each of them seemed overjoyed. They came up to me, hugged and congratulated me.
"Of course we don't have a problem with that, Alpha!" Jake said, covering for everyone.
"There's a reason she's your mate. Human or werewolf. Also, since she tamed you, she must be stronger than us."
I gave Jake a friendly slap on the shoulder and got serious again.
"Matt knows, and I'm sure he'll tell everyone if he hasn't already. That means Luna is in danger. I don't want to lock her up or make her feel like she's always in danger. I want her to be a normal one Live life. If I'm not with her to protect her, I want you to be. I'll go away this afternoon and you'll protect her. Some of you stay close to her home. But, she's never allowed to do anything know about it."
...
"Are you really leaving?" Luna asked me sadly as I walked her to her front door.
I put a hand on her cheek and looked into her beautiful eyes.
"I have to, but I'll be back as soon as possible."
She seemed to be thinking about something and nervously played with her fingers.
"Was ist los?"
She exhaled and looked at me shyly.
"I spoke to Ella. She said you didn't have to go."
"Little one, I wouldn't lie to you. My wolf would want him to tag you."
"Yes, but only if he sees a reason for it. If he thinks it's the only way for me to stay by your side and for him not to feel threatened. Is that true?"
"Yeah, but..." I started, but she cut me off straight away.
"So if I slept with you tonight, made your wolf feel like I wouldn't leave your side, would he be reassured?"
"Yeah, but..."
"Then I'll sleep with you today!", she finished my sentence again.
My eyes widened and my heart was beating fast.
"Little one, you don't understand. I would have to hold you in my arms the whole time. A sheet of paper shouldn't fit between us. I would need your closeness more than usual. All night long. You're not ready for that. We're right now just got together."
"Hunter, I don't want you to go off alone if you could stay here. I'm going to do it because I want to, not because I have to."
A smile formed on my lips and I pulled her into my arms, kissing her head again.
"What have I done to deserve you?"
"Are you really sure?" Hunter asked me.
Of course I was extremely nervous about sleeping with him. In his arms, wrapped tightly. However, I also knew from Ella that Hunter could be in danger if he left town. Many were after him, only he would never tell me that.
"Yes!" I said smiling.
Hunter replied and pulled me closer to him by the waist.
"I don't think I can ever let go of you."
I had to shine like a honey cake horse. Nobody could destroy me in this moment. Well, until Hunter quickly let go of me and took a few steps back. Before I could ask what he had, the door opened and my mother was standing in front of it.
"Luna, there you are at last!" she said worried.
"I thought you were coming this morning."
"Yes, I stayed with Ella longer."
She turned to Hunter and smiled at him.
"Would you both like to come in?"
"No mom. I just wanted to let you know that I'm staying with Ella again today."
"Oh. Okey, Spätzchen."
She gave me a big hug and said goodbye to both of us. Hunter grabbed my hand and led us to his car. As we both got in and he drove off, I asked him, "How did you know my mom would answer the door?"
"I have above-average hearing."
"Oh. You hear everything?"
"Within several miles, yes."
"Everything?" I asked nervously, trying to slow my rapid heartbeat.
"Everything!" he confirmed with a smile.
My blood rushed to my head just thinking about how nervous I was around him every time he knew.
Hunter grabbed my hand and gave me an encouraging smile.
"Little one, I love your heartbeat."
"But that's unfair."
"Believe me when I tell you that my heart beats really fast around you too. Not just around you, but every time I think of you."
I blush and try to divert the topic somehow.
"My mother behaves kinda...different."
"What do you mean?" Hunter asked.
"She's just too caring for me. She hasn't been like this since my father died."
"Don't you think it's good that she's acting like a mother to you again?" Hunter asked, seeming to get nervous.
"I don't know. If I know she's doing it for other reasons, then no. Oh, I don't know."
"Shall we go eat something?" he changed the subject this time.
...
"I might have had to bring something to wear!" I mumbled, embarrassed.
"Here, you can put my clothes on. That would calm my wolf even more."
He handed me a pair of loose jogging pants and a loose t-shirt. Well, he was also built quite wide. No wonder it was way too big for me.
When I had changed in the bathroom and headed back into the bedroom, Hunter was beaming.
"You look good enough to eat, darling."
I blushed and tried to look anywhere but at his bare chest.
"Let's go to sleep. You must be pretty tired."
He grabbed my hand and led me to the bed.
"Can't you...can't you get dressed?" I asked sheepishly.
Hunter grinned from ear to ear and said no: "I'm sorry, little one. But my wolf wants to feel your body close. As good as possible."
I rolled my eyes and bit back my shy giggle.
Hunter lay down on his back and nervously I climbed over to him. I rested my head on his chest and listened to his heart beating fast.
Hunter wrapped his arms around me and kissed my head.
"Thank you. For doing this for me."
"I just don't want you to be alone. If I can help you like that, then I will."
And to be honest, it didn't bother me at all. I enjoyed the warmth emanating from his body. The feeling of being loved and protected. I wish it would never go away
