I was pretty much done.
I was sleepless for the rest of the night.
One of the twins insisted on going back into the room. But I had strictly refused to lie down in this bed again.
Surprisingly, he accepted this quickly. He was probably only mainly interested in the fact that I was present in this room.
I ended up sitting with my back against a wall and launching out of a window.
The awake twin did the same to me. He just sat down with his back against the bed and kept glancing around the room. He kept hanging on me, which of course I noticed, but I tried to stare out the window as rigidly as possible.
The other twin woke up pretty much just as the first light of day broke into the room.
At first he seemed a bit surprised about the situation he found himself in, but he didn't say anything about it.
However, when he walked in my direction, I stood up quickly and unmistakably took two steps in the opposite direction.
The twin stopped and the other got up too.
"So, how are we going to do it today?" the twin wanted to know, who had just been sleeping. "
If you don't mind, I could take her to work today.
I think my duties as a doctor are easier for a human to be grasped as yours as the beta of the pack.
It would probably restrict you quite a bit in your tasks."
The other twin seemed dissatisfied, but nodded after a few seconds. "
Yes, you're probably right Luke. Especially since quite a lot was left undone because of yesterday pretty much criss-crossed the territory today and she certainly wouldn't want to get any closer than ten yards from me in wolf form."
I looked skeptically from one twin to the other.
They seemed, apart from their delusion that I could be their mate, to have retained their sense of reality enough to realize that I would rather take poison than approach them in their bestial form.
For a moment there was silence in the room.
"Then we should get ready as soon as possible. Maybe our companion would like to eat at least a little something today."
"A little something? You're optimistic. I would rather estimate that she won't eat anything again if it goes any longer, we would even have to think about artificial feeding with a sibde."
Startled, I looked at the talking twin.
However, he looked at me sadly.
,,Do not look at me like that. This is the emergency solution. In any case, we won't just let you starve to death. But you can make it easier for all of us just by eating something.
You can eat whatever you want, we would get you everything."
Determined, I grabbed the spot where they gave me the drug the night before.
The twins sighed.
"We know that's not quite right was from us."
"But please believe us when we tell you that we would never tamper with your food. For werewolves there would be no greater betrayal than feeding someone something that is essential to life." "
If you want, we could start with raw food first. You would also notice if something was wrong there than with processed things are and you certainly don't know yet."
My growling stomach pretty much destroyed the seriousness I wanted to convey.
"Come on. Your body is already craving food. And it doesn't have to be a lot."
"So, here we are," said the twin and let me enter the building.
It had easily taken half an hour's walk until we were finally at the place where the twin probably worked as a doctor. "
Today we are also alone here. My colleague has the next few days off. We take turns with the duties."
I looked around the room with only mild interest.
It seemed to be a kind of anteroom from which further rooms led off. Everything was pretty neutral.
The floor was tiled, the walls white. There were also white curtains from the windows and white chairs along the walls.
"And how do you like it here?"
I raised my eyebrows and looked at him skeptically.
"Okay, so not your case?
Well, it's kept quite simple."
Yes, you could probably see it that way, or simply face the truth that the person who set it up here just didn't want to bother. "But let's just let the day
go prepare. The plan for today is only an examination of a few children, otherwise we'll just see what comes in."
He went to one of the doors and unlocked it.
"By the way, I hope you don't have a problem with blood. Werewolves usually only come here when it's really bad, as long as it's not about children."
The next room looked different. Had color accents here and there and the cupboards were made of wood. The room seemed really friendlier than that others.
There was another door here too.
"Over there is my office, this is where most of the treatments take place.
For worse things, we also have an operations room here in the building. Luckily, this one is mostly unused, since we rarely have such serious injuries."
A little unsure, I still stood at the door while Luke put on a white coat and prepared some things I just had no idea about. "
Who By the way, if you want to eat something or rest, you are welcome to do so in my office. Apart from me, nobody else goes in there."
I slowly walked towards the room and looked in through the open door.
A massive desk, which nevertheless flexed almost under all the documents, took up most of the small room. There was a matching chair in front of it.
The walls were covered with shelves, except where there was a window.
The only thing that seemed a bit inappropriate was a simple armchair that was lying in the opposite corner from me.
But something else also piqued my interest.
There was a bowl of fruit on the side of the desk.
I glanced back at the other room where the werewolf was still doing something.
So, without hesitation, I went into the room and looked at the bowl.
An apple, a pear and a bunch of grapes.
Unsure, I plucked a grape, rolled it back and forth in my fingers and finally ate it.
She was surprisingly cute, but at any moment I expected the effect of something to happen.
I waited about two minutes. Nothing happened.
After that I took a second and a third.
After about a dozen or so grapes, I looked up.
I was startled to find Luke standing in the doorway, watching me.
"Hey, everything's fine. Don't let me bother you I can get more grapes later if you want. You might just want to eat something else later. Too much fruit at once can have a detrimental effect on the gastrointestinal system. Especially if you haven't had anything else for a long time. If you don't feel so well afterwards, please let me know. Then I can give you something for it."
