The past few hours had completely passed me by.
Luke had given me something for the pain.
Crazy, considering how I usually felt about letting that happen in the first place.
But every little movement had just hurt.
I must have been incredibly lucky and in a few days I probably wouldn't have any more problems with it, even if I honestly didn't quite believe it yet.
The situation on site had then escalated quite a bit when Jared joined them a few minutes later.
He would have liked to have ripped Tyler's mother's head off, who had just been taken away at the time
But as far as I could tell, Tyler had said something quietly to him.
Ever since then he'd had a creepy grin on his face that could have jumped out of a nightmare.
After he had reassured Luke that I was fine under the circumstances, he insisted on joining the squad that was supposed to get Wohl Tyler's father.
"Come on, we have to go." Luke spoke to me.
We had been back in the house where he lived with his twin for some time.
I looked at him questioningly: "Where to?"
As the alpha, Tyler will judge his mother's actions and thus also his father.
"What does his father have to do with it?" "
He's the alpha of another pack below us, so he has to be accountable for all the actions of members of his pack. After all, he's also Tyler's mother's companion Whatever judgment Tyler makes, it will affect him too."
"What do you think Tyler will judge?" I asked quietly.
It was still kind of weird talking to him.
"I'm assuming that he will sentence his mother to death and with it his father."
I looked at Luke doubtfully and more confused than before.
"What does one thing have to do with the other?"
"Companions form an inseparable bond with one another. It is so strong that the moment one partner's life ends, the heart of the other immediately stops beating.
Older werewolves usually feel very good when their time comes.
They then retire with their mate and spend the last few hours together, only to die together."
Somehow I was trying to sort out the racing thoughts in my head.
"So that would mean, for example, that if Lily died, Tyler would die at the same moment."
Luke flinched briefly, but then smiled slightly.
"Yes, that would mean.
Just please do us all a favor and never repeat your last words in front of others.
Werewolves are extremely sensitive to the death, even imaginary, of the alpha couple."
"You werewolves are weird."
Luke just laughed.
"Yes, yes we do. But now we have to go slowly."
"What am I supposed to do there?"
"Well, you're the mate of the Beta and the pack doctor, you've become a victim yourself, you've witnessed Tyler's mother attacking the Luna and even tried to protect the Luna. I think those are some good reasons that explain your presence. But no worry. You don't have to do anything but be there. Oh, and for your forewarning, except for the alpha couple, Jared, you, me, and Tyler's parents, the entire pack will be present in wolf form.
Whereby it is possible that the omega is also present as a human." "
The what?"
"The Omega. Like alpha or beta, that's a rank in the pack." "
How the hell are you supposed to climb through that?"
"It all comes with time."
The way to the place where Tyler was about to judge his parents was quite a distance from the house.
Or so it felt.
Luke gave me a little support to get me there somehow.
He also offered to carry me, but I flatly refused.
I would still prefer no contact at all.
But that just didn't work.
When we reached the place, we were probably almost the last to appear.
An unbelievable number of werewolves sat and lay around us.
I couldn't say exactly how many there were with the best will in the world.
Quite a few looked in our direction, but the interest of the general public was directed more towards what we were moving towards.
The alpha couple.
Lily was seated in a huge, high-backed, overstuffed chair. Tyler, who was standing next to her, held one of her hands and looked around grimly.
We approached the two of them purposefully.
"Alpha. Luna.", Luke said and bowed his head to both of them.
Unsure what to do next, I just stand there.
"How are you?" Lily turned to me immediately.
"Everything's fine.", I said softly: "And you?" "
So far everything's fine.", she said and put her free hand about her stomach: "After all, I'm also a werewolf. They're generally a bit tougher." "
But not invulnerable." Tyler grumbled: "I don't even want to imagine what could have happened." "
Here." Jared, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, interrupted us with another armchair and placed it next to Lily.
This one was smaller but didn't seem any less padded.
Luke pushed me towards the chair and I sat down.
I looked at Lily uncertainly, but she only smiled reassuringly.
I honestly expected it to start now.
But I was surprised again.
The alpha stood in front of me and leaned down to me.
"I have to thank you. It was incredibly brave what you did. The pack honors you for your courage."
These words were only spoken softly, but the pack seemed to have heard every word. Because suddenly the howling of wolves sounded from all sides.
I sat there, frozen, and listened with a bang I got goose bumps at that sound.
The alpha just smiled grimly and turned away from me.
All of a sudden there was dead silence.
It was an absolutely spooky atmosphere.
The sun was setting behind us and the square, or rather the meadow here, was surrounded by dense forest.
There were an incredible number of werewolves all around us.
The first thing you had to realize was that a dozen people could easily do it alone in a few minutes.
Everyone looked at a point in front of us between the trees.
I honestly couldn't tell what was really there, but I assumed that's where Tyler's parents were approaching.
An almost subliminal growl spread across the square.
In the meantime I could also see two people approaching.
As they got closer, I could see their faces twisted with anger.
,,Son! What are you doing!" shouted the man, who must have been Tyler's father.
The pack only growled louder.
The woman must have growled back, but was interrupted by a monstrous-sounding growl from Tyler.
They stopped about ten meters in front of us.
The Man just stared at Tyler, but the woman just grinned maliciously in Lily's and my direction.
"Are you satisfied now son? What a nonsensical crowd of wolves. You're just making a fool of yourself here. That's not worthy of an alpha."
"SILENCE!" Tyler yelled.
The man flinched briefly.
But he quickly caught himself and glared at his son.
