Seconds passed with the guy just staring at me.
But when that didn't happen, he seemed frustrated shortly afterwards.
He obviously didn't like that I wasn't doing what he expected me to do.
"Drink?" he asked me again and held the glass in front of my nose.
I didn't do anything again and to be honest I had to suppress an annoyed snort.
Couldn't they just leave me alone?
Then I could rest a bit or working on my escape plan.
"Luke?", the one next to me then called the other werewolf. Not particularly loud, but the other seemed to have heard him, because less than ten seconds later he was standing in the doorway.
"What's up?" he wanted to know about the other one.
"She doesn't want to drink anything..."
The werewolf standing in the doorway looked at me briefly and then back at his twin, while I tried to look at both of them keep.
"She doesn't trust us."
"But why?" asked the other. I could have rolled your eyes at this rarely stupid question.
The werewolf's twin next to me also raised his eyebrows.
"Why should she trust us? What do you think her parents told her for stories about us werewolves?
She probably expects us to torture her, rape her or something like that at any moment.
Just the way she looks at both of us literally screams out that she thinks we are monsters."
The werewolf next to me frowned thoughtfully. " Do you
think Lily could help us with that?
she feels and could help us all with that?"
The werewolf in the doorway just shook his head.
"Lily was human, but grew up very differently from her. Gabz apart from the fact that she's a wolf now too."
A thousand thoughts raced through my head from what I had just heard.
Who the hell was this Lily? And more importantly, how could she have been human and be a werewolf now?
If that's really true and they really had the opportunity, would they do the same to me?
"But she's now also...", the werewolf next to me began again while pointing at me. "
Genetically yes, but only when she lives through it in full consciousness will she also be physically and mentally ."
"Does that mean she doesn't feel anything for us at the moment?" "
No, nothing but fear, panic and hatred."
The other werewolf looked genuinely horrified, while I didn't really understand what all of this was supposed to mean, only that there seemed to be something wrong with me.
Oh how I wish I could have yelled at those two monsters right now and demanded to know what they had done to me.
But that would probably reduce my chances of escaping to zero.
After all, they could just torture me or something like that until I would reveal everything.
And she would definitely do that.
Just as I knew that sooner or later the truth would probably slip out of my mouth.
"What do we do now?", One werewolf asked the other.
"Your time is trembling and maybe she'll get used to us a little before the next Vollmind. And it's best if we keep an eye on that she doesn't do anything to herself. You know what the mates of twins tend to be and what the survival rate is."
While the twin next to me nodded worriedly, I had to suppress a nervous gulp.
Did I understand the two correctly? companion?!
My parents' stories about this phenomenon raced through my head.
One thing was now much more certain: I had to get out of here!
For what felt like an eternity, these two critters thought they had to have a discussion here.
And as long as it wasn't about not wanting to eat or drink, I understood very little.
They didn't bring up the fellowship thing again, to my disappointment.
I really could have used more information.
Although I was roughly familiar with the phenomenon, the stories my parents told me were limited. After all, she herself had only heard of this dependence of a werewolf on another individual.
The poor person who got it should be under the absolute control of the werewolves. Everything would only happen according to the will of these monsters.
If it only happened among werewolves it should probably be relatively amicable, after all both sides were equally obsessed with each other, but it should almost always end bloody when humans were involved. The only options for humans were either to let these monsters break them and be completely at their mercy, or to take their lives into their own hands and end it in some way.
I was adamant that if I failed to escape from them by escaping, I would end my life.
Not only would this be what my family would expect of me, it would be by far the best.
After all, my grandfather said that you could very well weaken werewolves by separating them from their "companions" and that they were easier to kill on the one hand and on the other hand would no longer pose such a danger to other people.
And what could be more honorable than dying for the good of mankind?
Even if probably no one would ever find out about my deed. It had to be worth something anyway.
The two monsters came to the end of their conversation when one asked the other, "So what now?"
The other just shrugged. "Be patient. Sooner or later she'll eat or drink."
"And if not." "
Then we'll just have to use coercion and, if necessary, feed them artificially. At least until the next full moon."
There! Since we already had it! You would force me!
If they really didn't want to hurt me, they would just leave me alone and never separated me from my family.
I wonder if they were being held somewhere nearby? Or had they taken her away?
Doesn't matter. I missed her, but I knew she would stand up to the werewolves' domination just as much.
And if life wanted it that way, we would meet again.
Even if we didn't succeed, there was still a small hope. After all, it couldn't be entirely out of thin air that people believed in life after death for thousands of years.
Actually, that was actually a nice idea.
A place where you meet everyone you love again. Without suffering and without these monsters.
Both creatures turned to me.
This time the other tried to sell me the food and drink. You again I suppressed every emerging movement, just followed the two with my eyes.
"She obviously doesn't want Jared." "
But can't that be dangerous for people."
"I beg you, while we can take a lot more, a few hours without food and water doesn't usually kill people. However, if she doesn't drink anything by this time tomorrow, I'll probably have to put her on an IV." "
Luke, the way she's acting now, she'll never let that happen."
"I'm aware of that and I don't like it myself, but what else can we do? Wait until she's so weak that she can't defend herself against us?"
