Softly, very softly, you could hear footsteps going away. I had to strain quite a bit to hear it.
But when I was sure the monsters were gone, I took a deep breath of relief.
Apparently I still had a kind of grace period and I wanted to use this to make a plan how best to get out of here.
With difficulty, but meanwhile a little better than when I woke up, I turned my head slowly, first to the left and then to the right.
The room was relatively large, at least it seemed so to me when I compared the size with those of the ruins of the houses, which we found every now and then in the woods.
To my left, the entire wall consisted of a floor-to-ceiling window, which could be covered with two gray curtains.
Next to the bed there was still this strange machine that made such an alarm earlier.
The wall right in front of me was white and mostly taken up by a large closet next to the door the werewolves went through.
To my right, however, was another door that, in contrast to the other one, was not closed now, but had a crack in it, so that I could see the tiles from here.
That must have been the bathroom.
In any case, it reminded me of the rooms that my parents presented to us as such in the ruins of the houses.
I also knew roughly what you were doing there, but I've never used one myself.
When should I? Those in the ruins were mostly very dilapidated and sooner or later you always found a place in the forest where you could relieve yourself and or wash.
Apart from two small tables right next to the bed, there wasn't much else here either.
The space would probably have become tight for that.
The room was indeed very large, but the bed placed in the middle, which even I thought was very large without being able to compare it to anyone else, took up a lot of space.
However, more furniture could have fit in if the bed had been pushed to the side.
I took a deep breath and tried to focus on myself again. With enough concentration, I quickly managed to move first one finger, then two, and finally the whole hand slightly. Clenching your fists and relaxing them again.
It also worked with the other hand.
It was much harder for me to move my feet. But they moved minimally.
Relieved that my body control was coming back, I tried to relax a little.
While this was still dangerous, I couldn't be tense 24/7.
I knew only too well that my body wouldn't last long and after all, it would be better to relax now than in the presence of these beasts.
I would also have liked to test my voice, which was certainly strained after screaming, but I was too afraid that this would only draw unwanted attention.
Although the two would probably reappear sooner or later, I much preferred the later to the earlier.
It might also be an advantage for me if the werewolves didn't know exactly what I was able to do and would underestimate me as a result. Anything else would only complicate my planned escape. But I also knew that I couldn't play motionless forever. But maybe I had a good chance of pretending that my muscles were still weak from this 'vegetative state', but that wasn't a permanent problem either. So I had to hurry to get out of here. However, do not run headlong, but with a plan. That meant that I would have to stay here a little longer, but my chances were all the better.
I just had to hope that the werewolves didn't want to do what they had planned for me in the near future...
The two werewolves had really left me alone so far. I could hardly believe it.
I almost fell asleep again, but just then I heard soft footsteps near me.
More steps came closer.
,,Um... Jared? What are you doing there?" I could just about understand one of the two through the closed door. "
It's so quiet in there... I'm worried...
To be honest, I can't understand either, how you can stay so calm all the time."
"Because I know that nothing big can happen to her in our bedroom. We had everything safely built for exactly that.
On top of that, the after-effects of the medication and the coma still limit her quite a bit. Depending on how quickly her body breaks it down, she probably won't be able to lift a finger right now. And by the way, I think you're being a little ridiculous. Just open the door and look in instead of wanting to listen through the door." "
But then she'll only get scared again."
,,Allegedly. Or she sleeps. And even if she's awake, she'll probably have known by now that we're here. The doors here aren't that soundproof either. Even as a human she should probably hear us, even if she doesn't seem to understand us." "
So I should just go in there?"
"Well, if you like, you can also take her something to eat and drink." "Do
n't you want to go in with Luke?" One voice sounded surprised through the door.
,,Want? Yes, but that will only stress her out unnecessarily."
But what if there's a medical emergency? I'm just the beta, not a doctor, after all."
"Only beta?", asked the other and sounded almost amused: "You have the highest office in the pack, next to the alpha and the luna. The old alpha would have challenged you to a fight for such a statement, since you could indicate that you are aiming for a higher position."
"Man Luke! You know what I mean. Being the beta doesn't do me any good right now. Doctor would be much more practical right now. How am I supposed to know if she's okay?" "
Don't worry about that. People are usually more of an open book. And besides, she still has the sensor on her arm, even if it's actually just a plan B was planned. But I'm assuming she'll get rid of any equipment somehow.
To be honest, I'm actually quite glad I disconnected her from the IV and removed the line beforehand. That could have caused more trouble."
"You're probably right," the other answered again.
The steps of the two moved away, but it didn't take long for some to come closer again.
Should I pretend to sleep?
Would such a deception even work with werewolves?
And what was this sensor that the two had spoken of before?
Before I could even come to any realization or decision, the door to the room slowly opened.
"Hey," came the beast in a calm voice.
He eyed me closely, but I tried not to show any obvious emotion.
"I brought food," he said in an overly calm voice.
He came into the room and walked to my left.
I followed his every move carefully.
He put what he had brought on the small table and looked at me.
He took another glass with a clear liquid.
"Drink?" he asked, rocking the glass slightly from left to right so that the liquid inside sloshed back and forth.
I continued to look at him as still as possible.
Those monsters didn't really think I was eating, let alone would drink what they brought me.
Who knew what else might be in there. I had already noticed that they had no scruples about administering any substances to me and it was more than easy to continue to feed me something unnoticed via food.
