"There's still nothing new from the vampires. Maybe they've moved away again?" Noah asked the alpha of the other pack. When I got home, I already noticed the presence of the other wolves. While the two alphas were talking, I glared angrily at the other beta. Riley. My look was hostile and I made no bones about hiding it. Ava's scent clung to him and it wasn't short of time that I pounced on him. Riley gave me a questioning look and he didn't seem too keen on me either.
"Kian, take Riley out and show him our territory."
What? You know I can't control myself! , I said to him in my mind.
Talk to him. You look like you want to kill him.
I moved away from the wall and left the room. I knew Riley would follow me. When we were finally alone, I turned around and said angrily, "I absolutely can't stand you."
He gave me a grin and cheekily replied, "I can say the same for myself. Can you tell me what I did to you that made you stare at me so hostilely from the first moment?"
I balled my hands into fists and growled at him. Either I would make a big mistake or everything would turn out fine, which I hardly believed.
"You should keep your hands off my mate! You know she's not meant for you. So what do you want from her?"
"What are you talking about?" he asked angrily. "Who's your mate?"
"Ava! She is mine alone. I don't want to see you around her."
His eyes turned deadly serious. He came at me menacingly and before I knew it he punched me square in the face. I staggered back briefly, but I quickly recovered myself and struck out for a counterattack. He was jealous. I couldn't explain his reaction otherwise.
"YOU are that damn guy who broke her heart six years ago? I'll kill you, do you hear? You, of all people, are her mate!" he roared, taking a deep breath.
I clenched my fists and glared at him angrily. So he knew about it, but what was it to him?
"It's none of your business. I'll make up for my mistakes, but she's mine and I don't want to see you around her, understand?" I said in a loud voice.
"It's none of my business, you filthy dog. She may be your mate, but I 'll tag her and make her mine. She's mine and I won't let you have her. Besides, Ava is human, she doesn't know if you or I are her mate!" he said, grinning maliciously.
"I will kill you. I'll rip you to pieces if you approach her just once!" I growl menacingly. "She doesn't even love you. You know full well that she has feelings for me."
His eyes darkened and I knew I had touched some nerve.
"We're still talking."
With these steps he turned and left me behind. I decided not to go back. I went deeper into the forest and took off my clothes. In a few seconds I assumed my werewolf form and felt liberated. I didn't know how long I walked around in the forest, but when it got dark I wanted to go back. However, my body immediately tensed up and I realized something was wrong. I wasn't alone. A few moments later I was surrounded. There were eight people looking at me with a smile. If I hadn't noticed it from their pale skin, I would have noticed it from their red eyes and their fangs. Before me stood vampires and I was inferior to them. I tried to contact my brother with my mind, but before I could even say anything,
(...)
My body felt numb and I could hardly move. I painfully tried to open my eyes.
"Kian! Thank God. You're finally getting up." I felt someone hold my hand and I had to admit it felt damn good. I could feel their presence. She was here? That had to be a dream.
When I finally managed to open my eyes after several attempts, I saw her. How long has it been since I saw her beautiful eyes? There was no sparkle and it seemed like she had been crying for days.
"Ava?" I asked, my voice cracking. I was afraid that it was a dream and that I might wake up at any moment. That she just wouldn't be there anymore.
"Kian, are you in pain?" she asked worried.
I shook my head slightly. I felt weak and exhausted, but I wasn't in any pain.
“You were injured pretty badly and had a lot of wounds. You must be in pain?" she asked.
I vaguely remembered the attack. I got a lot. Somehow I managed to kill two of the vampires, but I was still inferior to them. They were in the majority and that I am lying here and living can only be a miracle.
"Ava, don't worry. I'm fine, you're with me."
Her cheeks turned red, which elicited a small smile from me.
"If you're feeling better, then I can go now."
Before she could take a step, however, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards me. She fell on top of me and I wrapped my hands around her waist while hers rested on my chest. Our faces were inches apart. I could feel her heart beating fast and mine wasn't slow either.
"How I wish that time would stop now."
Ava tried to pull away from me, but I just pulled her closer to me. "Kian. Please let go of me."
"I've made this mistake before, I won't make it a second time."
"Stop it!" she barely whispered.
"Give me a chance, mate!"
Before she could answer, however, the door opened and Ava jumped up, startled. Noah and Riley entered the room through the door. While my brother grinned at me, Riley glared at me hostilely.
"Ava, we're going now." Ava nodded bluntly and joined Riley. I wanted to get up straight away to stop her from leaving me behind again.
" Don't do anything !" I heard my brother's voice in my head. I sighed and watched Ava leave my room.
"Now she's gone. Thanks!" I said sarcastically.
Noah sat down in the chair my companion was sitting in earlier.
"How are you?" he asked, slightly concerned.
"I'm doing well. But what happened? Why was Ava here?" I asked curiously.
"You were attacked by vampires. You suffered severe wounds from this attack. I sensed something was wrong. I only wish we had come earlier, you wouldn't have suffered so many injuries."
"What about the vampires?" I asked.
"They're all dead. We made sure of that."
"And why was Ava here?" I ask curiously. She didn't want to have anything to do with me.
"Because she's your mate. I asked that she come to you. Just by her presence, you feel better now. She was hesitant at first, but when she found out you were unwell, she came here."
I had to smile. I had my suspicions, but I was never 100% sure. Ava felt something for me. She was worried about me. I had to fight for her. I couldn't give up. She was my soul mate. The woman I loved everywhere.
Since my thoughts were constantly revolving around Ava, it wasn't until later that I realized that Noah had something.
"What's up? Something happened? wait, how's rose? How long was I unconscious?" I bombarded him with questions.
"Kian, don't forget to take a breath. Rose is fine. The doctor said that the birth could start at any moment. But it's not about her, it's about you. Freshen up first, we'll talk downstairs then. You were unconscious for several days."
Before I could protest, he left my room and left me alone. I've always been an impatient and curious person, so I got up straight away and took a quick shower. When I was done, I dried off and changed into a shirt and black sweatpants.
Noah was waiting for me in the living room and before I could sit down, Rose came towards me and wrapped her arms around me. "I'm glad you're okay little pup."
She pulled me away and smiled at me. “She is beautiful and has a character made of gold. Don't you screw it up."
With these words she left the room and a small smile formed on my face. I knew right away that she was talking about Ava. I took a seat across from Noah and looked at him expectantly.
"Spit it out! What are you hiding from me?" I asked directly.
"No one knows what I'm going to tell you now. I don't want anyone to know either. You have to keep it to yourself."
His expression became serious and he took a deep breath.
"Noah, tell me what the fuck is going on! Something with Ava?" I asked in panic.
"I know why you don't remember Ava."
