The class dragged on for quite a while and I wished I could just storm out and never come back. While I was supposed to be paying attention in class, I developed a strategy for how best to win the bet. It's best if I do it like every time. The girl would definitely hug me like everyone else. You could call me vain now. But I knew the effect I had on girls, anyone else would take advantage of it just like I did.
When the bell finally rang for break, I winked at the others and finally went in search of the nerd girl. After a few minutes of not finding her, I wondered where she might be. Maybe in the library? Although, what was she supposed to do there during the break? It was worth a try.
I made my way into the library and smiled when I saw her. She sat in a chair and was absorbed in a book. What's the best way to go about this? , I asked myself. Nothing would go wrong. I walked up to her and took a seat across from her. She didn't seem to notice me, so I cleared my throat briefly. Startled, she lifted her head and looked at me through her brown eyes. She had a small snub nose and a round face. She actually looked pretty cute, I don't know why I hadn't noticed her before.
"Is there anything I can help you with or why are you staring at me like that?" she suddenly asked, sounding anything but friendly.
I raised my eyebrow. Okay, I wasn't expecting that.
"What's your name?" I asked directly.
"That does not concern you. would you go now?"
I didn't know if that was her tactic or if she really wasn't interested in me. If it was the second, winning the bet was going to be a little harder than I thought.
Just as I was about to reply, the doorbell rang. The girl packed up her books and just left me. A small smile formed on my mouth. I wouldn't be Kian if I didn't love a challenge.
...
Sport was next on the agenda. With my pack I made my way to the dressing room. When we were all done changing, we entered the hall. The gymnasium was quite large, so it was split up. Next door, the girls from my class and from a younger year played sports together. I consciously looked to the side, smelling a familiar smell. Then I saw her. While the other girls wore short shorts, she wore long sweatpants. She looked pretty cute in it.
"Who are you staring at again?" Dany asked me, stepping up next to me.
"Not Elena?" he asked in horror.
I turned to him and answered him: “Don't talk nonsense. Like I'm watching after her. It's way too cheap. Even I don't bother with one like that and that must be saying something."
"Then who? I...oh that girl over there? How's it going? Do you already know her name?"
"No, she doesn't want to tell me. But I have an idea." I walked up to a boy who must have been from your class. When he saw me, he gave me an anxious look and said, "K..Kian? Did I do something wrong?"
Somehow the younger students were afraid of me, even though I had never harmed them. I wasn't a thug or anything.
"See that girl over there? Wearing black sweatpants and talking to that girl?"
He looked across the gym and nodded. "Ava? Yes, she goes to my class. She's quite shy."
I patted him lightly on the shoulder and thanked him. At least now I knew her name.
...
Just before class ended, I looked back at Ava. They were playing volleyball and I had to admit that she was quite athletic.
" Now that's what you get for being more interested in her than me! ", I heard a voice in my mind. Before I could even react, Elena slammed the ball straight into Ava's face with full force. Shocked, I ran straight up and knelt down to Ava, who was on the ground. Elena had her werewolf strength against one Using people, there would be consequences. Ava was holding her bloody nose with her hand. I rested her head on my hand and she said softly, "Let go of me."
A teacher came up to us and said, "Miss Mason, please go straight to the nurse. This does not look good."
Ava pulled away from me and as she got to her feet she swayed. I quickly grabbed her so she wouldn't fall over.
"Mr. Black, accompany Miss Mason!"
Before Ava could reply, I had picked her up. I ignored the puzzled faces of the others. Ava started struggling and said, "Let me go, Kian."
That she knew my name didn't shock me, everyone at school knew it.
"Hold still, Ava!" I demanded. To my amazement, she really stayed still.
"Are you in pain?" I asked her. I already knew the answer. Her brown eyes were glassy and she was still clutching her nose, which just wouldn't stop bleeding. I didn't know why I was so angry was angry at Elena for doing this to her. But there would be repercussions...
"Where's the damn nurse?" I asked myself.
Ava was bleeding out here and no one showed up to help her. I was really angry and Ava seemed to notice.
"Don't make a big deal out of it. Besides, you can go again. I'm not a little kid anymore."
I looked at her and replied, "I'm responsible for this, so I'm staying." If Elena wasn't so damn jealous, this would never have happened. Most likely, she had overheard our conversation in the gym and thought I was interested in Ava Our keen hearing enabled us to overhear conversations from far away, which was both a blessing and a curse.
"You can not help it. It was an accident and besides, it wasn't intentional."
I looked at Ava and felt guilty. I didn't know what to say so I was all the more grateful when the nurse finally walked in. I gave her a hostile look that intimidated her a little.
"I'm glad you showed up today!" I said sarcastically.
"Kian!" Ava called my name and glared at me. I leaned against the window and watched as the nurse examined Ava's nose.
"It's not broken. That's good."
Inwardly I breathed a sigh of relief and waited for the treatment to finish.

The days went by and nothing big had happened so far. Elena was banished from our pack when my brother - the Alpha - heard about Ava. We were strictly forbidden to use our abilities against humans. This had consequences for each wolf, as it did for Elena. She moved out of town with her family and I was glad never to see her again.
I had made little progress with Ava. I accompanied her to her lessons, spent recess with her against her will, and sometimes stayed late at school just to drive her home. At first she was quite reluctant to do so, but now she knows that arguing with me is no longer of any use.
Now I sat across from her in the library and silently watched her do her homework. I honestly had to admit that I enjoy my time with Ava. Although she was quite shy, her style was special. When I was with her, I forgot the bet. I only remembered it in the evening and every time I thought about breaking it off. I didn't want to hurt Ava.
"Would you like me to help you?" I asked when I saw that she was struggling with a task.
She lifted her head and looked at me skeptically. "As if you know about it."
I gave her a smile and sat across from her. I explained everything to her until she finally understood the task.
"Thanks. I really didn't think you were intelligent. Normally handsome boys are dumb."
I smiled and said, "So you think I'm handsome?"
Ava blushed instantly and looked down in embarrassment.
"Go out with me!" I said.
She raised her head and looked at me in shock. "You want to go out. With me? Are you okay otherwise?"
"I'm serious Ava. I like you!" I said honestly.
"I don't know...somehow I have the feeling that you don't mean it. Look at you and then... at me!"
I lifted her chin so she looked deep into my eyes.
"Ava, you are beautiful. From the inside as well as from the outside. I want to get to know you better. Give me a chance."
...
When I stood in front of Ava's door and she opened it, I was speechless. I've always thought Ava was pretty, but today she outdid herself. She just looked amazing.
"Kian?", I heard my name several times and suddenly found myself back in reality.
I shook my head and offered my arm to Ava. "We want?"
She smiled shyly at me and nodded. Together we walked to the car and when we got in, I drove off.
"Where are we going?" she asked me.
"Surprise."
...
I enjoyed the evening with Ava and she seemed comfortable too. We sat on the beach and watched the sunset together.
"I misjudged you, Kian. I thought that you were like all the other boys who have a new girl by their side every day. I'm sorry."
A bad feeling came over me. She even apologized for thinking I was an asshole. Which I actually was.
"Ava, I have something to tell you...!" I started.
She looked at me now and interrupted me.
"Kian, I think I like you."
My heart was pounding in my throat and a warm feeling washed over me. Without hesitation, I pulled Ava closer and placed my lips on hers. At first she hesitated, but finally she returned my kiss. I've kissed a lot of girls, but it's never felt so right. I knew exactly what this meant. I had fallen head over heels in love with the beautiful, shy girl in such a short amount of time. My 18th birthday has never been so unimportant to me as it is at this moment. Because I knew now that I would never let Ava go. Even if I did find my mate, Ava was the only thing that mattered to me and I only wanted to spend my life with her.
