"She's on her way to us. Are you really sure?" Seth asked me.
I looked at him coldly and said, "It's my decision. Just support me."
"It doesn't have to end like this."
"I do not have another choice."
Ava was now with us and looked at me angrily.
"What's all this about? Do you know that I was terribly worried about you? Couldn't you have reported? Especially after...!" she broke off.
I looked at her coldly, my heart burning. I should be the best actor in the world now. I had to break her heart, something I never wanted.
"Ava, still don't get it?" I said, giving a fake laugh.
"Get what?" she asked worried.
Inwardly, I took a deep breath and tried to suppress my feelings.
"You really are just a stupid little girl. It was easy to win the bet."
"W...what bet?" she asked me softly. It felt like I was out of breath. How much I would have just wrapped my arms around her when she looked at me so hurt.
"Ava, I never loved you. Who would fall in love with a little ugly girl like you? It was just a bet. I had to make you, the naive nerd girl, fall in love with me. Oh and I had to be the first to sleep with you. I did both, so you can go now."
Tears welled up in Ava's beautiful eyes. Everything inside me hurt and I couldn't stand it for another second. I turned and ran away. When I got to a small forest, I didn't even take off my clothes and transformed. I could hardly control my feelings. As a werewolf, you just felt it all that much more intensely. My heart hurt and I could hardly breathe. Why did all this have to happen to me? For what reason? Ava, I'm so incredibly sorry.
...
Time passed and I felt worse every day. I hadn't spoken to Ava since that day. I had last seen her two weeks ago. She was pale in the face and almost unrecognizable. She had gotten even slimmer. The guilty conscience plagued me. I felt guilty and regretted every day that I was close to her back then.
"Where do you want to celebrate your birthday?" Some of my pack asked me.
"Not at all!" I answered them angrily. I had changed a lot since breaking up with Ava. I became cold, aggressive and nothing interested me anymore.
Noah came into my room and said, "Let's talk."
The others left my room and Noah sat down with me.
"I'm sorry, Kian. I should never have messed with you."
"Noah, it's not your fault!" I said honestly.
"This breakup is destroying you, can't you see? Go to her."
"I can not. I want it so badly, but I can't." I choked back tears.
"You're the only one who can protect her. I know I've been telling you that constantly for the last few days. But please listen to me. You love her and she loves you. Give you both a chance. I'll be myself separate from Rose too."
"Noah, please don't make this any harder than it already is. She probably never wants to see me again anyway."
"Kian. As your alpha, I command you. Tomorrow you will go to her and explain everything to her. If you don't, I'll banish you from our pack."
For the first time since the breakup, I had to smile briefly. He was right. I loved Ava and she felt the same for me. Nothing and nobody could separate us. I will go to her tomorrow and win her back.
"Thanks, Noah!" I said, smiling.
"Don't thank me. you are my little brother Somebody had to wash your head." He got up and wanted to leave the room. He stopped and smiled at me: "Happy Birthday, little brother."
...
The next morning I got up with determination and got ready straight away. I would finally see Ava again. My heart yearned for her every second. After getting dressed, I drove my car straight to school. I haven't been here since we broke up, which usually hasn't been good for my senior year. But I just wasn't interested. I looked out for Ava, ignoring all the students trying to talk to me.
A strange but benevolent feeling suddenly came over me. Goosebumps ran over my body and I knew exactly what that meant. Noah had described this feeling to me only too well. My mate - whom I could recognize since yesterday - was nearby. I ignored that feeling and continued to search for Ava. I didn't care who my mate was. Because only Ava was the person that was meant for me.
Still, the more I searched for Ava, the stronger the feeling. Then suddenly I saw her and the feeling overwhelmed me. My heart was pounding and my mind was going crazy. A smile crept onto my face. Ava, the girl I loved dearly, was my mate. She was my mate the whole time. Overjoyed, I went there with quick steps and smiled at her overjoyed.
She looked at me coldly and hostilely. She had gotten even thinner since we met.
"Ava, can we talk? I beg you."
"Go away Kian. I do not want to see you."
"Ava, please. Listen to me."
"So you keep lying to me? So you can win another of your childish bets?" I wondered through tears.
"I never played anything on you. my feelings for you are real I love you dearest More than anyone in this world. I canceled the bet right away because I feel something for you. The last month has been hell for me."
"Ah, and not for me? i died kian Because of you."
“Ava, give me a chance. let me make it up to you I love you."
"Kian. Leave me alone. Please! Don't destroy me any more than you did."
With those words, she left me heartbroken.
(...)
"We need to talk!" Dany said as he entered my room. He looked pale in the face and seemed quite serious.
"About what?" I mumbled softly.
"Ava!"
I quickly sat up and looked at him worriedly, "What about her?"
"Kian. I don't know the best way to tell you."
"Speak up or I'll rip your goddamn tongue out."
"Ava...she...she took her own life."
Time stood still and I couldn't realize his words.
"You lie."
"No, I heard it myself. She overdosed. I thought you should know this."
When he left me alone again, I threw over everything I could get my hands on. Tears flowed down my cheek and I screamed my heart out. Her words echoed in my head.
" I died, Kian. Because of you."
My heart burned, my soul ached. I looked at myself in a fraction of the mirror and saw a boy crying. I could hardly stand this moment, this pain. Then suddenly my eyes changed.
