Invitation
It had been two days since the attack and there was never a moment of rest for me. I sleep and eat in my war room. Our patrol team is constantly vigilant. We had increased our number of patrol teams. Instead of two or three, we are sending a minimum of ten members. I have appointed a personal guard on my mate as well just to be on the safe side. I have received no complaints so far. Maybe he is very good at his job. I haven't seen her around much, not that I was looking for her.
But I was getting reports on her daily basis. I have been doing nothing except reading reports these days. My office was a prison and my Secretary got pissed off at me for not getting out of my office. If I worked she had to be here too. She's an awesome Secretary but her patience is limited like mine.
We have somehow tackled everything by the end. I leave the building feeling tired, nothing except a good spar could wake me up. I walked to the training area. I saw everyone busy Liam was in deep conversation with the patrol team. I went there. I could hear the conversation perfectly from where I was but it still felt good to be part of the conversation.
"They are saying nothing unusual has been happening these days", Liam said. I shrugged and said," Well with the level of security they couldn't even if they try. Keep on the lookout. It is better to be safe than sorry", I warned them.
"Don't worry Alpha I won't let them", Liam said. I know only me and Liam are serious nowadays. Most of the people had forgotten our war cry already. With a wedding on the horizon, they were ready to enjoy not worrying about something that hadn't happened.
Speaking of weddings, I haven't seen Annabeth or Angela. I think I should visit them and see what they are up to. Might as well act like I haven't been aware of their shopping trip outside the forest. I first chose to deny it but decided against it. I had put them fully on security and even asked their shop to close down for us.
From what I know they had spent heavily but Angela only bought herself a dress for the wedding, nothing else. Not even shoes that I thought surprised me. Being in the human World one does become consumerist. But she wasn't one of them. She was always different.
When I reached the wedding planner and the bride they were neck-deep in wedding preparations. I thought of the irony of my mate planning my wedding with another person. Maybe she didn't want me the way I wanted her. I thought of her kisses, the warmth of her lips didn't feel like she didn't want me.
I was immediately greeted by a kiss from Annabeth. I made it brief, not wanting to make a spectacle of myself. I was looking at my mate while kissing Annabeth just to get a reaction but she ignored me. My pride took a blow but was briefly satisfied with her extra efforts to look busy. I wasn't fooled, she did care though she didn't cry or anything. But the way she was pulling at the tags made me think she was wishing it was me.
" I thought we were having a small ceremony. I said looking at the arrangements. Annabeth looked crestfallen hearing this, ", I'm going to get married only once, Aidan. Don't let the ceremony be dull", she said wistfully. " Your wish makes it short. I hate anything long", I said to her without a care. She nodded enthusiastically.
She turned to talk to someone else about the decorations. I walked towards my mate who was now writing wedding invitations which were hand made of course. "We don't use paper to invite people. Everyone comes to wish us all a family", I said to her. "Annabeth insisted she wants to get married in human style", she tells me. Her handwriting was neat, cursive and very beautiful exactly as I remember. " What about the priest and cake"? , I asked her. "We have talked with someone who can do it online. As for the cake, I'm baking,'' she said with less enthusiasm.
" Did you even know how to bake a cake"? I inquired about her. She arched her eyebrows and replied," You people will never know the difference anyway". "I had cake before, it was very tasty", I told her. I was not at all talking about the cake. She looked down for a second and said," Why do you talk like that to me? You are going to be married in a few days". "I don't want to but it's irresistible to see you and not say anything", I said truthfully.
After chatting a little bit I left there but my wolf was pretty grumpy about it. We decided to get married on the full moon which was auspicious for us and everyone. I was feeling refreshed. I think being near her made my wolf great. We don't have to be together just seeing her made us feel good. No longer tired and pissed off at the world and everyone.
I walked to the conference room. It was very gloomy to see that space. Mindless talking was getting on my nerves. It was high time I got Luna. Then she could take away half of my jobs but the trouble is that I didn't think I could drag her away from her friends for long enough. She is not a party girl but more like a social butterfly who can't stop flying onto something exciting.
Our marriage is not going to be a cakewalk that much I know. It might require adjustments from both of us only if it was worth the effort. I pray that it is. I'm alone and I haven't taken a mate that itself was a problem. I already suffered a lot because of some half baked prophecy. The strange coincidence only fueled the rumours of me being the one. There is only one way to escape that. To become married so I'm no longer a lone wolf from the prediction. Then perhaps people may let me live in peace.
I was greeted by Sebastian and Liam. " What's it?", I asked. "Alpha we couldn't assign security to someone. They are vehemently denying the request to at least meet them", Sebastian said. I couldn't stop the fury bursting through me. We are working our asses off to save people and here we are denied from doing our jobs. " It's your parents", Liam said without missing a beat.
The anger inside me quickly died down. I now felt guilty. I know I had to convince them or they will never agree to it. They don't like someone who is going to tail them 24/7. Closed my eyes for a second and thought of my dilemma. "Did you have anyone who could be compatible with them? They won't accept it otherwise", I said. " We have someone young and exceptional only if they give us a chance", they said unanimously. I nodded my head and told them, "I think another trip for me is on the cards", I said sarcastically.
"Don't tell anyone that I was leaving. I worried there could be an attack on our tribe. Especially if there is an intruder in the loose as well, not to mention my backstabbing mate. " Are you leaving now Alpha", Seb asked. "As soon as I get my little baggage", I said in a voice dripping with sarcasm. " Do you think it is wise?" I inquired. " I have to take her for the safety of her and everyone around", I said evenly. I left them looking at me with concerned eyes. I know me being engaged doesn't matter when I'm with my mate. My wolf had chosen her already no matter how many weddings or engagements I do.
When I got to her building she hardly looked surprised which brought a smirk to my face."What is it?", she asked annoyingly. "We have to go somewhere", I said. " Where to? What should I wear? Is this dress ok"? She asked sarcastically. "You look fine, let's go", I told her. " No, I'm not going anywhere with you. I don't care what you do. I will not bow down to you", she said, her eyes on fire.
"Ok ", I said to her. I walked towards her in a few strides and put her on my shoulders. She was denying me her hands, shaking her eyes, burning coals. She tried to get out but my warning of slapping her in the butt put her in place. She hated making a show and I was very relieved that she grew quiet. We reached my car and I put her down. She opened the door and got inside without looking my way. My wolf was very pleased with the idea of being with her. I, on the other hand, worry that she will forgive me for what I just did to her. I hadn't forgiven her yet so I didn't think she could do the same.
She kept her face away from me while I was driving. I was doing just fine. She tried to resist me for the first time. She was so accommodating in the past but she wasn't anymore. Maybe she got tired of the good girl act. I'm constantly watching her just as I take a serpent in my arms. The only difference is that her venom could not only kill me but my entire family and I refused to let it happen not on my watch.
