Home not alone

When we reached my parent's place it was already evening so I decided to stay for dinner. They were always complaining about how I was not a loving son since I'm incapable of taking time off for them. This dinner was the one I was going to convince them how wrong they were about me. Maybe they will take pity on the groom and forgive me. I certainly hope so. My unwilling captive is silent. I wish she didn't cause any problems since my mom will help her to bash my head for anyone and may even let her escape. God! I didn't think this through.

I kill the engine when we reach my home. I got out of the car but she wasn't getting out. I opened the door. I'm no gentleman, don't mistake me for one. I more or less dragged her out because she was determined to be uncooperative. I was trapped in a few seconds, my parents were going to open the door and when they were going to witness me mauling her. I'm sure to have my ass kicked.

I pushed her chin upwards to look at me. Once our eyes connected there was no breaking it. I focused on my wolf to make her agree. She is my true mate. I can make her agree to anything and vice versa. Though she hardly needed me to since I was her puppet these past years. Eager to please her waiting for her command. I would lay down my life for her. But she never wanted me. I didn't understand why she betrayed me. Maybe all women folks are like that but they weren't. I have seen women's love and loyalty. In my parents, in my tribe and also sometimes among strangers very rare but it's still there.

"What", she mumbled, her voice lacking resolve. I go in for the kill. I want you to be nice to me at least in front of my parents. I promise you will be rewarded. " Reward", she scoffed. "Yes. Whatever you want", I told her. She looked at my lips. I unconsciously wet my lips and moved it a little bit closer to her face. " if that's what you want", I trailed. Suddenly the door opened to reveal my parent's jaw dropped.

My mate jumped away from me. There was a tense silence for a second. "This is not what you think", I said unfazed. " On the contrary, this looks the same as we think kiddo. Come on in", my father said. There wasn't any disapproval, a mild curiosity in their eyes. "We are surprised to see you after the engagement. Is there any news?", my mom asked. Translation: was the engagement off. " No news, just old, we are at war again. Three of my border guards were killed ", I said. "Hmm, that's why the security", my dad said.

" How can you be so irresponsible about the security", I wasted no time roasting them. "Come on in. We have a guest show your manners", my mom said. She wiggled out from under my dad's hold and took my mate's hand. " Come inside dear. We met briefly during the engagement. Angela right?", my mom said. She nodded her head and allowed herself to be dragged away by mom. I followed behind them closely but not before casting a lookout at the danger. So far none. I would be able to get the scent of wolves. But again I wasn't attacked by wolves last time. They were all humans armed with a silver bullet. How did they know it was deadly to us we never knew? It was in folklore but so was wolfsbane, a plant. They didn't use that, silver had some chemicals that caused infection in our blood.

I remember how I wore my father's ring. My hand had itching and was burnt suddenly. I was told it was an allergy back then I didn't know they weren't my real parents or my identity as a werewolf. We were in the living room. My father poured me a drink which of course declined to say I wanted to drive back.  Angel also didn't touch her drink. Her fear of going out of control might be the reason. It's a waste. I would like to see her hair down. The warm and cheerful girl she is. But underneath lay deceit and mayhem, if only she refrained from repeating things from her past.

My mom was effortlessly engaging her in conversation. She was just nodding and smiling but her eyes were alert, occasionally turning towards me. But I ignored it like she wasn't looking at me and tried to concentrate on dad instead of the wayward hair that escaped her ponytail. It is now lightly placed between her swell of breasts. When I looked back to my dad I knew I was caught checking her out so blatantly only she wasn't noticing my desperate eyes.

Once the drink was over my mother went to prepare the sandwich and my mate tagged along. I don't call her Angela much because her name changes every time though I perfectly remember each. I still didn't like her name. It was a reminder of how many times she was born that also meant she died too.  I regretted my decision to bring her but it was only safe that way she stays with me which means she dies with me if something happens to me. So far we are both alive and thriving.

Our dinner was late as I predicted in my mind. Though she wasn't a good cook, my mom is an enthusiastic one. For what she lost in skill she had made up with determination. I hear Angela giving directions and finally taking over the cooking. I only wished she did it early. She might have thought she was a nice cook. My bad I didn't warn her but then I wasn't aware she was a good cook. The smell confirmed my thoughts. "Are you still eavesdropping on her and your mom?", my dad asked.

"I was making sure they weren't burning the kitchen ", I said casually. "Stop joking. What are you doing? Is it wise to bring her here with a few days left for the ceremony? " Dad, it's safer that way. I can't leave her there, it was dangerous both for her and them", I said tightly. "Are you still believing that the slip of a girl is capable of killing a hundred wolves twice her size?", he said. " She might have helped", I said steely. "Whom?", my father asked again. " I don't know ", I said, walking from the sofa and going towards the kitchen.

The dinner was served. I saw her having her plain sandwich while we gobbled up ours. " "Tell me about why you turned vegetarian", my mom asked curiously. Mom had tried everything except becoming a vegetarian and knew she would fail. " I thought about it one day and was able to do it. Honestly, for me, it's not that hard", she said, her eyes looking far away.

Suddenly the storm started blowing and the power went out. "Oh! Has the storm started already"?her voice sounded a little panicked. " It's going to arrive the day after tomorrow, I guess it didn't like the prescribed time", my father answered. He appears chilled but I could sense his heartbeat fluttering.

"I guess we have to go now. If we start early we can reach fine", I said to her. She was silent but her heartbeat was flying as well.

" Poor thing, shut up Aidan. You guys are not going anywhere in a storm. You will stay here and go once it subsides. I wanted to say no but a look at her face confirmed that I was only pushing her and it won't do any good."Ok I said, she looked relieved to hear this. "Will you be a dear and go to check our fuse is alright ", my mom asked. I rose from the chair but a hand stopped me and said," I will come too". I took her hands and we walked silently to the basement. My father stays away from electric equipment because he was electrocuted once by an asshole who is not alive today. I killed him. He dared to hurt my parents so I did it. Ever since that day, he stays away from all the electrical wires.

"You don't need any lights", she said." No. I can see", I said. "As good as the day", she asked again. " As good as a day", I confirmed. She let out a huge sigh. I shook my head and prodded at the wires."All good", I said to her. "But we don't have light", she said. " We will once they re-establish everything. They can't see at night so we will have to wait until tomorrow", I say. She didn't say anything back. We walked back but I  realised she wasn't managing, she was scrambling after me so I took her hands gently and guided her towards the living room.

"No problem on our end ma", I shouted. She flinched at hearing my voice. I was surprised to see this. She was a strong one but then why was she cowering beneath me. I brushed it off for the time being. My mom had lighted her candles, some I suspect had flavours too. What was she playing at? I wondered if her matchmaking skills could summon a storm though.

I'm going to have a shower all this sexual tension was burning me out. " Wait before you go we have to discuss something", my father said, stopping mid-stride. "What's it?", I asked. " Sleeping arrangement of course", he told me, his voice bored.
