Balance
"Shit that was unexpected", said Tony. Yeah, it wasn't something unexpected. He might be suspicious that much I knew but for him to test me this way. I only gave him that chance to beat me at my own game. My secretary now held an expression almost similar to what I thought of I'm sorry for fucking everything up. I gave her a look that said don't worry about it. I wasn't worried we and humans were never at war; they were either blissfully unaware of our existence or they didn't care. They were watching us of course like how they care for a wild animal you want to survive not for our sake but the environment. They claimed to keep balance as it is left by nature. They never interfered with our fights, always remaining fair and impartial.
At this time where we have broken all the peace treaties signed with good cause but we can't afford any new enemies. Don't want to add anyone new. I sighed. " So what's the backup plan? How will you get out of this? You can say you developed a cold foot", said Liam. "I'm thinking but I don't think it will work. Getting married right after my fiance's death won't give it much credibility anyway?", I said. "So what's the plan"? asked Tony. " I'm going to ask for her to cooperate with what I said", I said. "Are you joking?", said Tony. " Tony is right she would never cooperate with you", said Liam.
"Tell me something I don't know", I said. " Ok so you know it won't work ", he said. " I know but I have to try", I said. "How can you coerce her into that"? asked Tony. " Seb hates her guts, maybe you should ask why he feels so", said Liam. "I know why Seb feels so im completely by his side but sometimes you should take sides for the betterment of everyone", I said. " So you are saying that you are going to take her side?'' asked Li, confused. "No, I'm taking the only side I belong to, that's my pack, my family", I said. He nodded his head understanding he was a general and he viewed things from two sides. But besides black and white exists a grey. Sometimes you have to stick to that too.
" You got any plans?", asked Tony. "Yes you can't walk into her prison and ask her to obey you", said Li. " No I'm not going to that personally, but someone else would go in my place, someone she won't refuse", I said. "Who would she listen to?", asked Liam. " That's right everyone hates her and she hates everyone", said Tony. "Well she is not going to refuse someone who saved her life from judgement", I said. ``You mean I", said Lana, her voice broken by surprise. "Yes only you can do that", I told her. "But Alpha she is rescued by someone else. I was tricked to do what I did", said her. " She won't know that. If there is someone who is trying to save her desperately then they might have tried to contact her and asked her to accept your witness. You were chosen because you genuinely like her not because of something else. If you didn't then you wouldn't have cared about her enough to help her", I told her.
"I don't know how I feel about it considering I'm just a secretary and not some secret operative. Besides, I don't think I'm skilled enough to lie and make her believe whatever I say", she said disheartened. I sighed, I could understand her worry. She was very principled and moral. It was hard for her to lie.
" I'm extremely sorry and I wouldn't have asked you if there was any other way. If you can not help then there is no hope for me to pull through this", I spoke to her encouraging her with my tone. She smiled in return and said," I would do this Alpha for our tribe", and said she was trying to look confident. "Maybe she is thinking I saved her because I was interested in her", said her jokingly. I tried to push away unwelcome thoughts of jealousy and wondered maybe my wolf was more subdued than I thought.
" So what do you want me to say to her"? She asked me with a smile. "Would you care to marry the same Alpha who put you in jail for the sake of showing off to a guy named Mike doesn't sound right?" she said sarcastically.
" I know exactly", said Tony grinning from ear to ear. "Thanks for the vote of confidence but I think the more eligible way of presenting our proposal would be through the same channel she was getting help from. Today a note would pass on randomly to her saying that help is coming to her", said me to her. She looked at me carefully as if memorizing everything I was saying. ", In the end, you should say something like you would be escaping here soon", I said. "Ok", she said.
" Let this remain in our thoughts. We are going to forget whatever we discussed as soon as we leave this room, except Lana. Got it?", I asked everyone. "Yes", the reply was instant and I felt as though half of our problems were solved. Now was time to do the other half.
" Just act natural. Don't lie until it is necessary. Though I don't think she is a master in detecting lies from the truth", I said. She twisted her forehead, thoughtfully said to us," so I should act as though I'm part of the whole save Angela group". "You have to be good and convincing", said I. " I will try my level best", said she. "So when should I go?", I asked her. " Now is a good time", I told her. She seemed a bit unsure but agreed. I gave her the device and she looked at it, turning it around. "This tech is our latest gift from Mike for security purposes and might as well use it now. Wear this on your dress so we could see you and hear your conversation", I told her.
" It's magnetic, you can put this on your belt buckle", offered Li. She put it over her belt and straightened it and gave it a once-over. "Don't think about the device. Act natural and flirt with her", said Tony winking. " I'm good I wouldn't want to jeopardise my job here flirting with her ", said Lana looking at me with a secretive smile playing on her lips. " Go on", I told her without bothering myself with a quick comeback.
Once she left I pulled over my laptop, I'm not much of a techie but I knew the basics but I didn't try to do it instead I moved it to Li and he accepted it and started working over with the connection. I had already started the device and now we could easily track her. she was walking a bit fast as though she was impatient and didn't want to prolong her misery. She was a doer rather than a thinker. So it's safe to say the job was in good hands.
We have already given her an easy clearance so she walked fast and reached her in record time without the security checks. "I saw her sitting on the floor aimlessly turning the pages as though she couldn't bear to read it or look at it. "Hello, sister, how are you?", she asked.
"How do you think I'm doing?", she shot back. " I'm sorry but you have to trust me, being in prison is better than being dead", she said. "I don't care enough anymore if you don't get me out of here I would die myself ", she threatened. " I would like to see you try my dear. This prison is loaded with cameras and you are on suicide watch already", said she in response. She grumbled at how much of an idiot she was for trusting these wild animals.
"I can get you out of here though. There is a chance for you to escape but you have to agree to marry our Alpha", said she, cutting to the Chase. " I would rather rot in this hell than marry your Alpha,'' she shouted. "Keep your voice down. I'm not here for him though he is the one who sends me here", she said in a low voice. " I don't care at all who sent you here. I won't marry him", said in finality.
"The people who saved you will be disappointed they thought you were worth fighting for", said she dryly. " You know about them?", she asked in surprise. "I'm part of them. This is a good opportunity for us to save you. Alpha has lied to Mike saying that you would be staying back here because you are getting married to him. We could use this information against him", she said unflinchingly. I was amazed by her skills so far.
" So what do you want me to do?", she asked. "Say yes for the time being", she said enthusiastically. " Ok but I have one condition", she said, her eyes narrowed. "I want him to ask me personally", she said. " Done. We will get you out of this place soon", she said carefully.
