Work and play

Once she was with me I forgot everything and even my pack at times. It is not her fault. I'm the one to blame. I want to get drunk in her kisses. I moved my face away from her. She looked at me confused.

"I have some important work", I told her half-heartedly.

" Ok", she said irritated. I know she doesn't like that I always put my work before her. But I have no choice the situation is pretty tense. The treaties were kind of none existent. The plan to attack the humans are being carried on by the neighbouring tribes. My drag is also being dragged into this mess by them. I only wished that she appeared a little sooner in my life. Then these problems wouldn't have been there. But once my attention wavered it could end up like the last time I winced remembering the way I lost my mate. I died there in her place too at least in my mind. I will protect her at all costs. There won't be a repeat of last time. That much I knew.

I walked to my office determined to end everything soon. Tonight I will go to her early and make up for my shitty workload. I may even get lucky tonight. But it is not on my mind. Spending time with her is enough for me. I think for me to say that I certainly have matured considerably.

"Hey", I greeted everyone with a glance and sat in front of my laptop. I debated whether to open my mail or let Lana do the work. I will have time to check on the borders with Rey and Liam then. It will take forever to read through these emails anyway.

" Lana please check my mails for me", I told her standing from my seat. I walked towards Li and Rey they were looking at something.

"What is happening?", I asked them.

" We were deciding on the border security. Now that the treaties are all cancelled shouldn't we increase the force at borders?", Li asked me.

"Not necessarily. We can't increase the number of people on the border tremendously. We can't give them an illusion of attack. It may lead to confusion and they might attack us. We must continue the same number but must be extra vigilant", I told them.

" Where's Seb?", I asked them.

"Don't know we haven't seen him in a while", they told me.

" I don't understand why he keeps disappearing like this. I talk to him. Make him understand the graveness of our situation", I warned them both.

I know he has some issues with the way things are working in here. But he can't stay away from like this. He is an integral part of us. He had to sort out the differences with us. Not avoid us altogether.

"I have some news", said Lana.

" What is it?", I asked her.

"Mike and Julio may visit us. They want to negotiate with us", she told me.

" I thought everything was resolved what more do they want to know?", I asked her confused.

"They just want us to join them", she told me quietly.

" That's impossible. I'm done fighting with them. Though there are no working treaties right now. But they are important to me. They are our brothers too. They need our support. But I won't extend it to them. That is the only thing I'm willing to do for Mike right now", I told her. I pinched my nose deep in thought. Damn it I shouldn't have come here. I should have stayed with her. There at least I wasn't forced to decide like this.

"I don't think they will understand that through the mail. You will have to say it to their faces", she told me with a tight smile.

" They are only going to waste their time by coming here. I'm not going to change my mind", I told her.

"So do you have anything to add on to Rey?", I asked him. He was the head of the border patrol. He is working under Seb . He is very good. So he might make it into my team soon. He was probably there since Seb was not here to report to me. At least he has sent someone on his place.

I saw Seb coming in a little dull. I paused and looked at him. I was about to blast him for not coming here early. But he didn't look good, so I backed off.

"Everything alright mate?", asked Li.

" Everything is alright. There is small news though. Me and Brian had decided to break up", he told me.

"Please tell me you are not considering breaking up with your mate", I told him.

" It's already done alpha", he told me.

"I wish you weren't hasty in such a decision. You can't hide from fate. Trust me I have tried", I told him.

" I know alpha. But I can't think of babies right now. Even though I'm not delivering them. It still requires one full attention", he told me.

"If you needed a break I'm happy to give you that", I told him.

" No please don't. We have worked out everything. It's probably for the best", he told me. But I could see the pain in his eyes. But I knew better than to interfere in their matter.

"They will be here tomorrow", said Lana. I sighed at this. I don't like Julio crawling here. I can have Mike, not him. I couldn't make that demand since I was already saying no to their demands. If he wants to visit let him. Maybe it's his last visit. I have nothing to fear for since my mate is here. She is my biggest strength. I knew she was fed up with my pack and me.

But once everything is settled I will take her on a proper honeymoon. But the moon period is coming soon. Maybe she will be pregnant too while enjoying our honeymoon. Finally, the sky is clear my dreams started taking a climb. I wished we have a dozen children. Maybe I will get them if I'm lucky.
