THE DEADLY END
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
EVENING
SARAH'S POV
I was all dressed in a red floral dress that stopped below my knees with my hair tied to a pony with a little bit of makeup on.
I didn't want to dress up but aunt Kathy insisted I should get dressed in this way since it's a special occasion and Max would be very happy.
Gosh, I'm so nervous right now. I just hope it isn't too much. I don't want Mr Russell or anyone thinking the other way round about me.
After having a final look in the mirror, I stepped out of my bedroom to join them in the living room where the little party is being held.
"There you're darling. Look at you, looking so beautiful and smart." Aunt Kathy uttered with a warm smile as I stepped down from the stairs.
Mr Russell just gave me a glance while Max rushed towards me which made Aunt Kathy, Henry and a few of the maids smile.
"You look beautiful, mommy." He uttered, making his dad's facial expression change.
"Thanks Max but what did I tell you before?"
"Sorry, I forgot. I'm so happy today that's why." He giggled and pulled my hand as we walked to the table where the cake was placed.
"Let's all sing together at the count of three. One... Two... Three." Aunt yelled.
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you dear, Max! Happy birthday to you!" We all sang together but Mr Russell remained silent with a straight face.
Sometimes, I wonder if he doesn't feel a bit awkward when acting too serious. He's supposed to be open at least for today since it's his son's birthday.
The woman who will fall in love with him will definitely do a lot on him if
"Make a wish and blow the candle before cutting the cake, my boy." Aunt urged him.
We all clapped for the birthday boy who took a slice and fed his daddy before turning towards me.
Mr Russell wasn't happy with it but I didn't want to break the boy's heart and took a bit from it before feeding him back.
JAYDEN'S POV
The party was already over but Max insisted I stay to spend more time with him which I had no choice but to grant his request.
"Daddy, I want us to play a game."
"Don't be ridiculous, champ. I don't have time for all that." I voiced out, showing disinterest in the activity.
"Jay, mind your language. He's just a kid and moreover, it's his birthday. You have to grant him all his wishes for today." Aunt explained.
I just wish there's a way to leave this place but I guess I'm stuck here longer than I thought.
"What game is it, champ?"
"Hide and seek but there's a condition."
"That's for children, champ. I'm not playing that game."
"But you promise to grant me any of my wishes, today? Please, daddy!" He asked, making a puppy face while aunt gave me a not so friendly look.
"Okay, fine. Let's get over with it. What's the condition?" I gave in, making a loud growl.
"You have to do what I say without complaints." He smiled, with his hands folded.
"Alright. I'm ready. Who else is in the game?"
"It's just you and auntie."
This is really getting out of hand. Why do I have to do everything with her?
"Are you guys ready?"
"Yes Max." She answered, in a soft tone like she was enjoying watching me play such a dumb game with her.
I really can't do this right now because I've got an important matter that has to do with torturing the living hell out of the imposter. I gave Henry a sign to head to the torture room before I join him.
"I'll count one to twenty to let you guys hide. Ready, go! One... Two..." He started off as I left the living room.
I strolled in the direction of the torture room fully prepared to make that spy confess.
I walked in and found Henry with five of my men beating the living soul of the imposter.
"Any word from him?"
"Not yet, boss." One of them replied.
"That's enough." I ordered and they stopped.
I'll do it the easy way but if he refuses to spill the truth, I'll be forced to use the hard way which he won't like.
SARAH'S POV
I was trying to find a good spot to hide when I heard a loud cry of a man coming from a door which looked different from every other door in the mansion.
I don't know what got into me that made me curious to know who and why someone would make that cry out that way but I decided to go and have a look at what is happening.
The more I got closer to the door, the more the cry of the man kept increasing until I finally stopped in front of the door and decided to check what's happening through the peephole.
I got a little view of the back view of a man's clothes which looks just like the one Mr Russell was putting on alongside with Henry who was standing at a corner and three hefty men beating a guy who was covered in blood.
It was Mr Russell and it happens they're torturing an innocent man. I wonder what the man must have done to deserve such treatment from them.
"That's enough." Mr Russell ordered and the hefty men stopped, leaving the men.
"I'll ask you for the last time. Where can I find your master?"
"I don't know sir, I swear. I just saw him once and when I asked for his name, he said he would kill me. That's all I know." The man answered.
"Where can I find him?" Mr Russell asked, pushing a knife on the man's chest which made me gasp loudly and move away from the door.
God! What have I done? I shouldn't have made any sound. I'm so dead. Dear God, please save me.
"Henry, go and check who's at the door." I heard Mr Russell order as I rushed off from the place before I could get caught.
I got to the hallway that leads to the kitchen and let out the breath I was holding up.
I can't believe I've to see that horrible sight with my own eyes. I don't know how much longer I can endure these horrible things I've been seeing without getting myself in danger.
I might not be lucky some other time if I keep sticking myself in things like this. I just need to caution myself and stop myself from getting into his affairs and staying far away from him.
