INJURED
CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
JAYDEN'S POV
I seem to be more interested in watching Sarah these days because I don't understand what's gotten into me.
She seemed to be in my thoughts every now and then. I keep getting interested to see her around me and each time I get a glimpse of her, I feel a deep connection.
The feeling started after the occurrence of the incident in Paris and since then, it has never been the same for me.
I feel I've betrayed Amanda's love for having to think of another woman but I can't help it. The more I keep fighting the feelings, the more I want her closer to me.
Sometimes, I flare at her over little things due to the effect she's having over me. I wish I could talk about this matter with someone I know won't tell it to anyone. I can't tell aunt about it because she will definitely say something negative about my feelings which I'm not ready to hear.
"Cancel all my appointments since my Godfather is coming over." I ordered Henry who bowed and left while I walked inside my office.
I don't know why Godfather called me up for a meeting which is very unusual except if there's a problem. I hope it's not something too serious.
I wonder how my boy is doing now? I know I failed him when I should be there with him today but since Sarah is there with him, I have got nothing to be worried about.
He sees her like his real mother and the way they act sometimes makes me wonder how God created such a kind woman like Sarah.
She's so unique, simple and above all loving towards my son. The love I always see in her eyes is so pure like a mother's love for her son.
"My boy, what are you so lost on?" I heard a familiar voice ask.
"Godfather, when did you arrive?" I inquired, standing on my feet and walked over to him.
"Just now but you didn't notice my presence." He smiled, as I helped him to the sofa putting his walking stick aside before taking a seat right next to him.
"How are you doing, Godfather?"
"I'm very okay, son. What about you and how is my grandson?"
"I'm perfectly doing well and Max is okay too."
"That's good to hear. I hope I'm not disturbing you in any way?"
"Not at all, Godfather. You said you had something urgent to discuss with me. What is it? Tell me and I'll take care of everything."
"You know I'm getting old and not getting any younger. Recently, I got a threatening note from one of our old enemies, Lorenzo. I didn't know how to tell you about it but last night's attack triggered me to open up to you."
"How dare that gangster try to mess with us again? Don't worry Godfather. I'll make sure I put him in his place."
"No, my boy. I want us to make peace with him. We've shed a lot of blood. Let's just end the enmity there and start a new chapter with him."
"How could you say that, Godfather? What if something had happened to you when they attacked you last night?"
"It wasn't serious, son. It was a warning note with gunshots fired. Let's settle our differences once and for all. You know I don't have much time to spend in this world any longer."
"I really don't like this idea, Godfather but since you insist, I've no other choice. When should we arrange a meeting with him?"
"There's no need for that. I've informed him to meet me here."
"Okay Godfather." I answered.
His wish is my command. I can't go against him for making peace with the person who made him lose the ability to walk properly but since it's his wish, I've no choice but to accept his decision.
SARAH'S POV
We arrived at Max's school as everywhere looked busy with kids and their parents.
"You're right on time, Mrs Russell. Max is needed to join the other kids performing in the event." His teacher said, rushing towards us.
"Go join the kids, Max." I uttered to him as he nodded and went with his teacher while I headed to the playground where the event was taking place.
I took a seat in front so I could have a good view of Max when he's running and also take the video to send to his father.
I had to lie to the little boy about making a video call with his father. I couldn't help it because I know how important he wants his father to be there.
I'll definitely take the video and send it to him to watch. That way he won't feel bad as well for missing the event for an important meeting.
After some couple of minutes, the participants for the race were called upon as my Max turned out to be among them.
I waved to him when he saw me, encouraging him that he could win the race.
**
"You were really great out there, honey. I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you mommy." He smiled while I took the trophy from him.
"Let's take a picture and send it to your daddy." I stated, and squatted to his level before taking the pictures.
"Ain't they lovely?"
"They are, mommy. I wish daddy was here to take a picture with us."
"Don't worry, honey. Your daddy will make it up to you? Let's go home." I assured him, as we made our way to the car park.
Just as expected, the chauffeur and five bodyguards were waiting for us as we both walked over to the car and got inside before driving off to the mansion.
We did go far when all the cars halted as I asked the chauffeur who said he will check what's happening.
The moment he stepped out, he got shot which got me horrified as well as Max whose breath seized.
I can't believe we were being attacked again. I'm so scared at this
"It's alright, darling. Nothing's going to happen." I assured him, as he regained his breathing.
I took out my phone and dialed Mr Russell's number but he didn't pick up the call. I tried calling him back and still yet he didn't pick up the call.
God! What am I going to do now? I've to do something to get us out of here.
"I'm scared mommy."
"Don't be scared, darling. I'm here with you. Do you trust me?"
"Yes mommy."
"Then stay right here while I try to move to the driver's seat and drive us out of here."
"No, mommy. Don't do it."
"Everything will be fine, trust me." I assured him and slowly made my way to the driver's seat and asked him to lay down while I pulled the car around.
It's a good thing I have knowledge about driving. I got trained by one of my coworkers back when I was working in New York.
I ignited the engine of the car and tried to pull the car back when I felt a bullet pass through my skin as I slowly began to feel weak.
