HIDDEN PAIN
CHAPTER FIFTY
SARAH'S POV
I rushed to my bedroom and locked the door, resting my back on the door as I slowly fell on my knees.
It hurts so much that I had to turn down Jayden's proposal but I had no choice.
I wish the situation was a simple one but it's out of my control and I've no choice but to keep fighting it all. Why did this have to happen to me now of all time?
No matter how I try to pretend like I don’t care about my family, the more I keep loving them not because of what I did to me in the past but because family is everything no matter the situation.
I’m so sorry Jayden for breaking your heart. I had no other choice than to save my family from the danger they found themselves in.
How do I explain to him that my father along with his wife and my step sister got abducted by an unknown person and the person had threatened to kill them if I tried to say a word to anyone? I don’t know how the person was able to get my number and call me by my real name.
“Sarah, are you in there? Please open the door.” Aunt yelled, knocking on the door.
I shouldn’t have walked away like that in their presence but I couldn’t control myself knowing how I turned down Jayden’s proposal. What am I even going to say to her?
“Sarah, please open up the door. What is the matter?”
“I’m sorry aunt but I just want to be left alone.”
“Please, don’t be like this child. I know it’s really unusual of you to give that reply but please, don’t keep whatever you’re feeling inside all to yourself. You know I’m always here for you.”
“Please, aunt, just leave me alone. I can’t even say it to you or anyone even if I want to.” I yelled, breaking down in tears again.
“Alright, my child. It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it but remember, I’m always here to listen to you and you’re not alone. We are like a family to you now. I’m going to give you the space to be alone.” She added as I heard her footsteps fading away.
I’m so sorry aunt. I wish I could tell you what’s on my mind but I just can’t. My family’s life is at stake here and I’m the only one who can save them.
Back at the restaurant, I took an excuse to the restroom to ease myself when I received a call from an unknown caller telling me he had abducted my father along with my step mother and step sister.
I didn’t believe him at first thinking it was a prank call until he gave the phone to my father who was crying and begging me to save them.
The kidnapper threatened to kill them if I made the mistake of telling anyone and asked me to return back to my father’s house by tomorrow.
How was I even going to tell Jayden about it knowing what he might do? I don’t want any bloodshed knowing there’s a way to negotiate with the kidnapper.
The terms in order to keep my family safe was to get married to the kidnapper who is still unknown to me. I just hope I’m doing the right thing by agreeing to his terms since it’s the only way to save them.
I’m sure Jayden will find someone else much better than me who will support him and love him. I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with him but little did I know things won’t go my way.
JAYDEN’S POV
We were all waiting for aunt to come back and tell us what happened to Sarah and why she rushed away in tears.
I pray aunt gets to find out her reason for rejecting my proposal and what’s really going on with her. I’m so concerned about her that I can’t think of anything except for her.
“Daddy, grandma is coming.” Max informed me, as I looked up and saw her looking gloomy.
“Did she tell you what’s wrong with her? Please, tell me aunt.” I rushed up to her.
“She has refused to tell me what’s bothering her. I really don’t know what to say, Jay.” She sighed, looking downcast.
“I’ll go have a word with her.”
“Don’t bother, Jay. She has locked her room and doesn’t want to talk to anyone.”
“There has to be a way to ask her what happened, aunt. I can’t just sit back and watch her hurt herself when I know there’s something I can do to get her to talk.”
“Listen to me, Jay. At this point, there’s nothing anyone can do to get her to talk. Let’s give her the space she needs right now.”
“How can you say that aunt? I’ve got to try, at least.”
“My boy, Kathy, is right. Sarah needs a space and you need to let her be for now. I’m sure she will open up to one of us once she calms down.” Godfather stated.
Everything seemed fine with her when we left the restaurant so I don’t understand what must have happened. I feel helpless that I can’t do anything to help her out right now.
I just hope giving her the space she needs might calm down to talk to us about what's going on. I pray I didn’t do anything to offend her in any way because if it turns out I am the cause, I don’t think I’ll be able to forgive myself.
“Daddy, is mommy angry with us?” Max asked with tears in his eyes.
“Come here, my little boy.” Godfather uttered as he rushed to him.
“Your mommy is not angry with any of us. She’s just tired and doesn’t want anyone to disturb her, okay?”
“Are you sure, grandpa? Or is my unborn little sister disturbing her?”
“It’s not that, my boy. Your mommy is only tired but she will be alright by tomorrow.”
“Aunt, please, take Max to his bedroom.”
“Come here, Max. It’s late already. You’ve to go to school tomorrow.” She said, grabbing his hand before heading to the stairs.
Max is still naive and doesn’t understand what’s going on. He’s too innocent to know what’s going on right now.
“It’s already getting late, godfather. I’ll have Henry escort you back to the mansion.”
“How do you expect me to leave this way? I’ll stay here until everything gets resolved.” He answered.
“Alright. Henry, help him to one of the rooms.”
“Okay boss.” Henry replied.
“Don’t think too much, my boy. I’m sure we’ll get over this problem by tomorrow.” He added.
“Thank you godfather.” I responded as he gave me an encouraging smile before Henry walked him to the stairs.
Please, Sarah, you have to open up to us to let us know what’s really going on with you in order to help you.
