Chapter 26 Girl!
"There should be a public holiday assigned to Girls. We'll call it 'GIRLS DAY, They deserve it although I know every day is a girls day"—Cinmisola
...........
Mum already knew we were going out. Thanks to Rotimi. According to him, we were attending the 80th birthday of the parents of one of his friends or acquaintance or whatever he said. The point was that he saved me the cost of lying to mum, again.
I'd checked YouTube on how to do a neat makeup and get the perfect edges. You might be wondering why I'm talking of edges when I've already gotten a wig, well, I got so restless during the night that I found it so hard to sleep, you know with different worries and thoughts so I decided to loosen my cornrows and did I mention that I was blessed with an amazingly long hair. I was literally called 'Alicia Keys' during my primary school days because of how long and curled up my hair was. So I sat in front of mirror and realized that my hair was actually better and longer than the wig itself. That's what led me to YouTube. I spent hours watching vlogs on how to style your hair and edges.
So when Lara and Tomison turned up at my house and saw my amazing hairstyle. (if I do say so myself), I could see the envy on their faces.
"Why aren't you wearing your wig?" Tomison asked.
"Are you kidding? She looks amazing."
'Thanks Lara' I thought.
"So you're really going like this?" Tomison asked.
"Why do you sound like you have a problem with it? I think it nice" I said.
"She's just hurt that you didn't wear the wig she bought you"
More like, gave me. That wig stunk like someone with a hair odor tried it on. Why was I having such thoughts about Tomison. Okay I know why, she didn't listen to me. She didn't tell my brother not to be her date. But to be sincere, if she'd done that, I wouldn't have gotten the excuse to leave the house today, so.....
"Anyway, I think it's nice Sha I just thought we were going to go all wiggy on them that's all"
"Yeah...." Lara nodded in understanding. "But it's nice, and we also look amazing. I don't see what the fret is all about anyway."
"Yeah" I added. "Let's just calm down and to attack any situation that comes unto us there."
They nodded in agreement.
"So when are our dates coming?" Lara asked'
"Our dates?" Tomison asked. "We are the only ones with dates, remember? You're with March and I'm with.........
"My brother, because you bailed out on me. We were supposed to go together"
"I apologized already."
I really wanted to scream 'APOLOGISING DOESN'T JUST CHANGE EVERYTHING! IT HASN'T PROVIDED ME WITH AN AUTOMATIC DATE! I DIDN'T BAIL ON YOU WITH YOUR BROTHER! But I just smiled instead and said, "Yeah you did and I'm sorry. I shouldn't be dwelling on the past. I'm sure something will turn up"
"Didn't Emem say were supposed to turn up with dates?" Lara asked, rubbing it in.
"I'm sure something will turn up" I repeat.
We were touching up our makeup and discussing about what and what we weren't going to do at the party when Rotimi barged into the room unannounced, causing the three of us to scream.
"Why didn't you knock? What if we were naked?"
"Apart from the fact that I've kind of seen your nakedness a couple of times, I saw you all march up here fully dressed up" he shrugged. "Well, I came to pick 'T' up"
'T? T? Who is T? Wait, he already has a nickname for Tomison? And he has the nerves to call her that straight to my face? And why is she chuckling like that? Give yourself some prestige, girl!"
"Our Uber is here already?" She asked with her eyes wide open.
'Wait? Uber? She.....they arranged for a Uber to pick us all up without even telling me?'
"So, we have to go. We'll see you guys at the party." Rotimi said, offering to help Tomison stand.
'Wait, even worse! They are leaving alone! Wow! Just.....wow!' I thought as I stared at the mirror, ignoring their "bye byes" I just stood in front of the mirror and pretended I was busy plucking my eyelashes.
'Okay, that was totally unfair" Tomison spat out.
"I don't know what to say? Like how are we even going to get there? She didn't even care to ask!"
"Relax, you're hyperventilating." Lara said, monitoring a pimple with her compact mirror. "I know Emem's place. I've delivered Aisha's homework there numerously"
"So that's solved." I said absently. "Lara?"
"Ya?"
"Is it weird that I'm feeling pissed and betrayed at Tomison, right now?"
"Nope, it's totally understandable. I personally think she should have been a little more considerate. Especially because she's aware that you're not totally cool with her going out with your brother"
"Wait, what? Who said I'm not totally cool with it? Of course I am"
"Hmmm, of course you are indeed. Can you even see your face right now? You look like you have a shitload of things to want to get out of your chest."
"Really it's that obvious?"
"Ya"
"What's with you and your 'ya ya'"
"Something I learnt on TV, don't try to change the topic"
'She got me'
"Yeah, yeah, you're right. I'm not even cool with it at all"
"I know you have reasons?"
"Ya" I teased and watched as she smiled.
"What are you reasons, pour it all out don't be afraid"
'Okay, here we go...........there's only one way to say this'
"She's a new friend. Don't get me wrong cos you're a new friend but it doesn't mean I don't you guys or something. I just feel like it's too early for someone I just met to start going out and renting Uber with my brother. I also think she's going to get her heart broken because my brother is a player"
"Then that will be the price she pays. Just let her be, she'll come around okay. I don't want the both of you quarrelling. It's bad for our project.
'About that......' she didn't know that I'd decided to give up on it. I was about to tell her when I heard a loud rasp on my door.
"Who's there?"
"Remilekun. It's me" I heard mum say. "Can I come in?"
"Yes, ma"
I watched as she hurriedly made her way in.
"What's the problem mum?"
"There's a car outside of our house, a limousine. And he's asking for you" she said to me.
