Chapter 45 Cup of Tea
Girls are not complicated, stop saying that. _Cinmisola_
Another thing I noticed about March, except from his outfit, was that he looked strangely happier. He took my hands and gave me a warm smile. Apparently, Emem was inside one of the interview offices and he was either waiting on his turn or waiting for her.
"So, Heaven,When can we hang out?" Aisha asked all of a sudden. "You've met, some of my friends and I'd like you to meet most or all of them."
"Uh, I'm flattered that you consider me cool enough to know your friends, but I really don't know you that well, and I think there'll be enough time for that." I answered and watched as March took his eyes off his phone for a second and shot me a look.
'O my God he recognized my voice, what if he...'
" I like your funny Nigerian-Asian accent, how long have you been in Nigeria?" He asked and I almost breathed out in relief.
"5 years. I literally had my entire secondary educational experience here in Nigeria." I answered and he nodded in acknowledgement.
He acted and seemed so different. What did they do to him?
"Excuse me, Miss Heaven Chang?" a pretty petite lady in an expensive looking suit appeared from one of the rooms and asked in her soft sonorous voice.
"I'm present here, ma'am" I answered and pretended like I didn't notice their reaction to my politeness.
"It's time for your interview, if you'll just step in" she replied and made way for me. The interview went as smooth and coordinated as I expected it. They didn't even have to tell me that I'd been accepted, I just knew it. I stepped out and smiled.
"Oh my God were you accepted?" Emem asked, she was already out and she looked impatient.
"Uh, yeah." I answered and watched as she busted out in tears. "Oh no, you weren't?"
She didn't say a thing and judging from the look in the faces of the others, she was definitely rejected and I wanted to do a quick Shaku Shaku or a smooth Gwara Gwara, but I forced a sad looked and asked of I could hug her, she didn't say a thing but I hugged her for a second or two though, fighting the urge to strange her neck in the process, you don't know how hard it is to hug the person that had your family killed.
'what's the point of feeling bad about being rejected anyway, you weren't going to live to study here' I thought.
"I'm so super sorry." I fought out.
"Anyway, let's look at the brighter side, I guess I'll be schooling in the states after all" she said all of a sudden, all traces of sadness wiped from her face. In fact, it was like nothing even happened.
"that's...cool" I heard myself say.
"So you're going home now?" Aisha asked.
"Not exactly, I'll just stop at a few places before that"
"oh, okay. Well, in throwing a party at my place tomorrow, and I'll love it if you showed up."
"What are you celebrating exactly?" I said, making my way through the exit and throwing each of them goodbye smiles.
"Nothing, I just throw parties when I want to"
"hmm cool." I nod. "here, give me your number, I'll text you when I make my decision" I said, handing my phone to her and watching has she blessed it with her finger prints.
"operation successful" I heard Roland's voice buzz in my hear. "now make an excuse and leave the place, try not to place your hands on the spots where she's printed on."
"make sure you text me." she said and I carefully collected the phone and smiled.
"I'll try not to forget" I said.
"You should really come, Heaven. She throws the best parties." March called after me.
'yeah, I'm sure she does .' I thought as I made my way out of the school reception.
"You did good, sis. You're going to wait a few hours before you text her back. Don't forget to ask for her address. Tomorrow's the day one of them dies." Roland said.
"who's going to to die first?" I asked as I got into the car.
"let's start with the girl that was rejected."
"Emem?"
"yeah, Whatever her name is. We'll start with her."
"is there anywhere you'd like to go to, ma'am Heaven?" the chauffer asked.
"Just drive me around, you never know, they might have me followed or something."
"Okay, ma'am"
"Smart thinking sis. In fact, make a stop at a restaurant and grab a bite."
"yeah, so, how are my...we going to have her executed."
"Let's just say you'll serve her, her cup of tea" he said and busted out in a fit of laughter, it had been a while since I heard him laugh like that, and it saddened me that the only thing that could revive that beautiful laughter was the thought of murdering someone.
