Chapter 106
"Is there a problem?" Alice asked with her nose scrunched upward in an irritating stance.
Lily had taken her outside and they were now far away from the office. This way Mr. Lawson would never know what she was up to.
"I heard you had eyes for Calhoun," Lily said with mischief dancing in her eyes.
Alice nose returned to its normal position as she now saw Lily as an angel. "Yes, I do. I really do!"
"I can help you..." Lily snarled letting her words hang in the air to create the perfect atmosphere. She needed Alice to be wrapped around her fingers like a little doll.
"Oh, tell me, how can I get him?" Alice asked her desperation flowing out of her like the water gushing down in a waterfall.
Lily smiled. Now she was getting somewhere. "Alice, we can't talk here. My father will get suspicious. I don't want it to seem like I am selling the family or anything but Calhoun needs someone like you in his life."
"Yes, and I keep telling him but he doesn't want to listen to me!" Alice said losing her cool.
"It's okay dear," Lily said holding her shoulder. "Let's set up an appointment. We'll talk properly then."
Alice nodded, understanding that the Lawson's mansion was the wrong place to be talking about things like that.
"Can you come by my house tomorrow?" She asked with large worried eyes. She had sleeping bags under her eye all because she spent most nights thinking about how she was going to face the media if she didn't marry Calhoun.
"Sure, I will be there... But won't you be at work?" Lily asked feigning to care.
"Oh no. I won't work tomorrow. This is more important. Please come in the morning," Alice replied and Lily smiled.
"I'll be at your place tomorrow then! Chao!" Lily said swerving around happily to waltz to her side of the house.
The second phase of their plan was another success. She couldn't wait for the result. She was already seeing herself float on money and the most expensive of clothes. The town was showering her with praises and gifts. No one could come close to her even Calhoun stood far away and she couldn't contain her joy.
"Lily, wake up!" Benson poked her on the side.
Lily stirred awake. The sun was already up and she smiled at it. "This is a good sign Benson!" She exclaimed beaming at the opened curtain.
Benson looked to the window and back at his wife. He wore a large scowl on his face as he didn't understand what was making Lily so excited about the window or whatever it was.
"Darling, our plan is already a success. In a few days we will be swimming in money! The sun says it all!" She declared with a snap of her finger.
Benson's left eye started twitching as her declarations made him angry. "Lily get out of the bed and go prepare to talk to Alice! Stop talking nonsense! It was sunny yesterday too and the last time I checked we are still broke!" He got up from the bed and walked out of the room, throwing the door close with a loud bang.
Lily glared at the door for at least three minutes before she decided to drag her body out of the bed. She woke up with a such a good mood but Benson wanted to destroy it! In fact he had succeeded in destroying it! All she did was try to make their life better but he and his sons were useless!
She took a bath in anger as thoughts of her failed life came crashing violently in her brain. Her two sons were completely useless. None of them have been able to achieve anything in their lives. Their grandfather had tried to give them some money to start them up but all they did with the money was lavish it on women. Their grandfather had gotten angry and he swore never to give them any money that was larger than a million dollars.
Now each time they made a request he would throw how successful their cousin Calhoun was on their faces. That was why, she needed to destroy Calhoun's image. Grandfather had to know that Calhoun wasn't as perfect as he thought him to be.
Lily finished her bath and went on to select one of her ceremonial gowns. This one was a green velvet long soiree dress with long arms that made her look like a picture from the sixties. She caked her face up with make up and slipped on her plump sandals. She picked up her bag and waltzed out of the room.
Her husband was probably somewhere trying to smoke is soul out. She didn't want to catch him now for she had a mission to accomplish. She took out her phone and called one of the many drivers they had to come take her to Alice Brentwood's resident.
The ride was smooth but her mind was filled with bumps as she calculated how better it would have been if Alice Brentwood had dated one of her sons instead. At least then, their family would be able to get some money.
"Maybe even grandfather will see her boys differently..." She thought aloud. But then she shook her head against it. That was a plan to keep aside.
She would have to go one with the one she had at the moment. Make Alice get Calhoun, so she could get a reward from her. If that didn't work, then of course she would get a Lawson, only it wouldn't be Calhoun but Matt.
The driver stopped the car in front of a very large gate and the security tapped on her window. Lily pressed down on the open button and glared at the slim man that brought his face before hers.
"I am sorry ma'am but Miss Brentwood asked me to confirm each of her visitors from this point. Please state your business and your name ma'am..." The man trailed looking down at the book he was holding.
Lily could have cussed him right there and then. Or even ask the driver to hit him but she had to calm herself. She needed to be sweet to Alice so she could get her trust.
"I am Lily Lawson, Calhoun's favourite aunt," she said with a smile.
