Chapter 129
Alice had just received the letter from Calhoun's lawyer and she was beyond herself. She had thought everything was now perfect since she had done the interview. Reporters ddidnt follow her around anymore. She even received a couple of congratulations mail. She was in the office that day when Lisa came to drop the letter on her desk.
"What?" She screeched.
Lisa who had already understood what the content of the letter was, had a struggle keeping a straight face. "Ma'am, is everything alright?" She asked.
Alice threw one dirty look at her and she felt her blood turn cold in anger. "You are happy about this aren't you?" She hissed.
Lisa put on an innocent face and shrugged her shoulders. "I dont know what the problem is ma'am. How can I be happy about what I dont know?"
The more she spoke, the more Alice got angry. It was clear to her that Lisa was mocking her. "She left you here so you coukd get information for her didn't you?" She snapped her eyes turning tiny.
Lisa knew where the whole snapping was going and she was sincerely tired of the job anyway. So she kept mute and waited for the big news to be thrown at her.
"You are fired! You are fired! I hate you!" She cried out. "Out of here! Go tell you stupid friend that I will not stop at this! Argh!!!" Alice screamed like a mad woman.
Lisa bowed dramatically and returned to her office to pack up her bags. Her co-workers gave her questioning glances. They each wanted to ask her what had happened but they knew who ever dared speak would be the next to leave.
"Argh!" Alice screamed once again within her office. She pulled at her hair in frustration. "Why do you have to always win, Ariana, why?" She screamed. "Why?!"
Lisa was smiling as she parked up her things and headed to the exit. On her way out, she walked into Calhoun himslrf.
"Mr. Lawson?" Lisa blurted out. He was the last person she expected to see in the Brentwood firm right at that moment. His face was kept in a tight line and he looked like he came to drop another bomb on Alice.
"Lisa," he said stopping to stare at her hands. Understanding flooded his angered face and he clicked his tongue. "Anyway, I planned on taking yiu away from you originally. She just made my job easier. God wait for me in the car," He said.
She nooded unable to find the rights words to say. Could this mean she had already gotten the job she wanted? Lisa thought with excitement as she made her way to the parked cars lined up in front of the Brentwood firm.
About ten body guards followed after Calhoun as he made his into Alice office. No one dared to stop him as he and his entourage approached the door. It was a complete show of power and everyone sat tensed on their seats.
Calhoun pulled the door open and made a very disoriented Alice biting on her fingers. She was so shocked to see him she almost lost her balance.
"Calhoun, I—" she made to speak but Calhoun raised his hand to shut her.
"I didn't come here to listen to you, Alice. I came here to warn you as a CO-CEO to stay away from my personal life! The charges I sent was done to you as a person but the next time you go on national television and do another one of those stupid baseless interviews, I will sue your firm. Plus in the end, I will make sure I buy it from you!" He said hitting his fist on her desk.
"You will have to think through this war properly Alice. It's either your obsession loses or your company!" He said before turning around to walk out.
Alice jumped in shock. She couldn't speak. Her body had gone numb and everything seemed too much for her to handle in such a small amount of time. By the time she regained her strength to speak, Calhoun had already gone.
Her body shook with anger but she knew it was useless. Calhoun was right. It was either her obsession or the company and the heaven knew she would give anything for her company. She moved slowly from her standing position and lowered herself unto her seat.
She needed to have an intensive conversation with herself. She needed to know what exactly she was standing to gain in this war she was creating.
It was not love.
She didn't love Calhoun.
What she wanted from everything, was more power. Now if fighting was going to make her lose even the tiniest bit of the power she already had, she couldn't go on anymore. She had to quit.
The sound of her phone snapped her out of her self examination and she picked up the call. It was Sofia, her sister.
"Someone just told me Calhoun came by the office. Did he come to you?" She asked.
"Yes, he did." Alice took a long breath and from her action Sofia could tell something was wrong.
"Alice did he say something terrible?" Sofia asked but before Alice could reply she spoke again. "Listen, do not let him intimidate you. The more we throw at him, the more he is going to realize that you are the indeed what's best for him and not that clown!" Sofia spat.
"Her is Ariana Brown," Alice whispered. For the first time ever since the whole saga started, she started seeing things from a different angle and the question she asked herself was, what did Ariana actually do wrong?
"What?" Sofia asked and Alice could see her nose lifting in her head.
"Sofia, what's the point of all of this," Alice asked calmly.
"Alice, are you given up? Are you actually going to let that street puddle win!?" Sofia screeched.
The hate that came from Sofia was enough to give Alice the answer she needed. Sofia wasn't doing this for her. She was doing it for herself.
"I am not given up Sofia—" Alice stated. "And that's because there was nothing to fight for in the first place..."
