Chapter 185
"Ariana, pack up. We are leaving," Calhoun said as soon as he got to his room.
Ariana had been scrolling through her phone when he stepped in. Her mind had been slowly trying to drive her mad by sending her crazy thoughts. As Calhoun stepped in, she dropped her phone and stared at his stance. He was very angry and he looked like he could melt someone with the heat that was emancipating from him.
She knew he was making that decision in anger. Even though she wanted it too, she had to calm him first. She got up from the bed and moved to where he stood by the door fuming like an angered mammal.
"Baby, what happened?" Ariana asked Calhoun. "Did your friend say something to you that you didn't like?"
"I am just sick and tired of this house! The energy is wrong. We should leave here right now!"
Ariana wanted to remind him that he needed to speak to his grandfather and his aunts but after one look at him, she knew they had to leave.
"Okay. I will pack up. Just give me thirty minutes," she said.
He nodded and stood by the door like a soldier in battle. He was tapping his foot and fuming as he occasionally watched her pack her things.
They didn't bring a lot of stuff. And knowing Calhoun he would leave half of the clothes there anyway. She only parked the necessary things she would need and in less than thirty minutes she was ready to go.
He moved to her side and picked up the single bag she had packed, "Let's go," Calhoun said holding onto her hand.
They walked down the corridor and to the living room. When they got to the path that led to grandfather's office. Ariana looked back, hoping Calhoun would at least tell the old man that they were leaving but Calhoun didn't even flinch. They got out of his car and Calhoun pulled the door open for her. He took the bag in his hands to the boot and walked to the driver's side of the car.
The guards and maids outside were surprised but none dared ask the young president questions. The gate was opened and he wasted no time driving out at once.
Ariana slipped her hand onto his right thigh to calm him a little. He was too angry to be driving.
He stole a quick look in her direction as he felt her warm hands on his thigh. He could feel her warmth take over his insides. And soon he was calm. He took a deep breath and continued driving.
"I am sorry if I didn't let you say goodbye to aunt Bianca and Elsie," he said with his eyes still fixed on the road.
"It's no problem. I can always see them around," Ariana replied. Knowing Elsie she could even come to their house on her own. The thought made Ariana smile.
The car was silent again as Calhoun drove through the traffic to his apartment deep within the city. Far away from his family's constant pulling at his choice of woman. They couldn't see what Ariana had done to him. Before she came into his life, he was a living cargo. There was no soul in him. He was always hard and cranky. He barely smiled.
But as soon as Ariana Brown came into his life, he had become overwhelmed. He had been revived. He was human again.
As he manoeuvred the car into the parking lot of their apartment an hour later. He held her hand as she made it to exit the vehicle. She looked from their joined hands to his face. "What's wrong?"
"Thank you," he whispered to her.
Ariana had confusion written all over her as she tried to think of reasons why he would thank her. Did she say something and then forget she did?
Calhoun stepped out of the car and opened her side for her. "Welcome home my love!" He whispered.
"Thank you," Ariana whispered back.
His anger was suddenly gone and all he wanted to do was to make Ariana very happy for all she had done for him. They moved to the door and despite the bag with him, he still rushed to pull the door open.
Inside, Ariana was finally happy to be home. In the Lawsons mansion, she felt restricted in everything. But here, it was her space and she could decide what to do with her life again. "When will I return to work?" She asked as she returned the clothes she had brought to her side of the wardrobe.
"Work?" Calhoun mused as he went to lay on the bed with his phone in hand.
"Yes, work!" Ariana repeated as she turned to glare at him. She knew how much he preferred her staying home all day but she would die of boredom if she ever did that. Plus, she hated the idea of people thinking she was some kind of gold digger or a trophy wife.
"Well, I am not certain about you getting back to work anytime soon..." he said with his eyes focused on his phone.
"But... Calhoun! What am I supposed to be doing?" She asked as she dropped the last of the clothes into the wardrobe.
Calhoun raised his head and smiled. There was a spark of mischief in his eyes as he spoke. "I can't plan our wedding alone my love. I want you to do it..."
Ariana's face burst into a rainbow of excitement. Her cheeks were pink immediately as she dropped onto the bed beside him. "You have... have they —Your grandparents haven't approved yet. Can we go ahead with it?"
Calhoun picked up her hands in his, "I am the one marrying you. I am the one spending the rest of my life with you and no one can tell me that I have made a wrong choice because I know that I didn't..."
Ariana felt another wave of heat on her cheeks as she dropped her eyes to her hands.
"I love you Ariana and I really want to spend the rest of my life with you."
