Chapter 95
Ariana felt her heart drop to her stomach. All the excitement she felt through out her journey to work melted away and her soul was eating her up at the instance.
"Who is coming?" She asked in a small voice.
Sarah's eyes widened in shock as she understood what she had done. She held Aria in defence.
"Miss Brown. This is not what it looks like. Mr. Lawson isn't like that I swear!" Sarah said as calmly as she could.
Ariana felt her legs become weak as she fought to keep her tears away. Here she was making plans with Lisa on what outfit to where to his grandparents dinner on Sunday and he asked her to stay home all week so he could host Alice!
"Oh my God!" She whimpered cupping her mouth as she bent over looking for where to seat for her knees were wobbly. She still clutched the folders in her hands, like it was all she had.
Sarah helped her locate the closest chair and sat her down.
"Miss Brown, you don't understand. He wants to tell her off. He didn't want you here because he didn't want you to hear him being rude to a woman... Especially one that is suppose to be your best friend's sister."
Aria wiped the drop of tears that had managed to slip out of her eyes and glared at Sarah. What was she saying?
"Look, you don't have to believe me. Just stay here and be quiet. Once she comes, there is an adjoining door. Try and listen to their conversation. Mr. Lawson is clean. I swear!" Alice kept going on and on and Aria just stared.
She sniffed her tears away and passed a tongue over her lips. What did she have to lose?
"Okay, I'll wait and I'll stay quiet." Ariana assured Alice.
Alice held her heart and stood upright. "He will kill me if he ever finds out about this. My boss... He really likes you..." She said as she got to the door. She turned to look at Aria and shook her head before disappearing out of the door.
Ariana stayed on the chair for a long time. She wasn't thinking. Her mind was blank. Could she really be in a relationship with Calhoun? Much worst fight for him with Alice Brentwood?
Her heart was in but her mind had doubts. Either ways, she couldn't bring herself to leave Calhoun. She moved closer to the adjoining door and opened it a little to peek inside. There was no one there at the moment and she checked her time.
It was too early for Calhoun to be in. She would have to be patient. Aria was about to leave her spying spot when she heard the door open in Calhoun's office and she held her breath.
It was Alice and Zion.
"Miss Alice, you can't be in here!" Zion was saying sternly but Alice waved him off like he was a fly that meant nothing to her.
"Go away errand boy! I have no business with you!" Alice said in a high pitched voice. She waltzed into the office and sat on Calhoun's chair.
What audacity!
Zion was about to say something but his phone rang. "Yeah... Oh shit!"
His face immediately turned into panic as he ran out of the door. Ariana was tempted to go after him and find out what got him so worked up but she couldn't break the promise she made to Sarah. She sat there and watched as Alice balanced herself into the chair like it was hers. She turned to a portrait of Calhoun on the window pane and looked into it.
"You and all your riches will be mine!" She giggled and Ariana felt her heart slice.
She wasn't hurt. She was angry.
Alice didn't love Calhoun. All the drama she made on national television was because she wanted his money. But she already had money!
Ariana couldn't believe it. Why was it that the rich wanted to get richer even to the point of lying about their heart desires and the rest? Why?
"Alice!"
Calhoun's cold voice as he burst through the door didn't just make Alice jump, even Ariana was shocked. She knew Calhoun was cold and ruthless from the stories she had heard about it long before she even started working there but she had never actually seen him this angry.
His face was red and he looked like he could hit Alice if she didn't disappear from his presence.
"I didn't hear you coming in... Hy! How was your weekend?"
Alice stuttered in fear and Ariana had to stop herself from not laughing out loud. She was actually scared of Calhoun.
"Lisa should have seen this!" Aria said to herself.
The feared Alice was jumpy and scared of Calhoun Lawson.
"Step away from my seat!"
Calhoun barked and Ariana smiled in satisfaction. She moved even closer to the door so she could see Alice reaction. She looked like a whore without client on a rainy street.
"I was so delighted when I got your message. It was everything I could ever ask for. I really care about you Calhoun, and I have taken a step to—"
Ariana wanted to hear the response Calhoun would say to this so she held her breath. This would be the prove she needed.
"Who gave you that, right?" Calhoun asked. "What gave you that liberty to play games with my life on national television?"
Ariana smiled and moved away from the door. She didn't have to listen to more of the conversation. Calhoun felt irritated by Alice presence and she had to help him get rid of her. Alice would not stop if she didn't see Calhoun with another woman. Maybe Ariana didn't have to wait for Sunday to show herself to the people in Calhoun's life. She could start with Alice Brentwood.
Ariana went to the folder that Sarah had given her and started looking for what she could present to him so Alice could get out of their lives for good. She had left Ethan for Sofia to do as she saw please. She wouldn't do the same with Calhoun.
Ariana smiled as her fingers picked up a document with the Brentwood company stamp.
"This must be their proposal!" She squealed in excitement. She was still with the Brentwood company when Alice tried to get this proposal of theirs approved. Back then Ariana found it vague. It was meaningless and a waste of money but Alice refused to listen to her. Now Ariana was on the receiving end. She didn't think she would want Calhoun to accept this useless proposal anyway. so, Aria picked it up and walked back to the adjoining door.
Ariana's angry eyes were on Alice as she pushed the door open. Alice almost fell of the chair in shock as her eyes went from the door to the person standing in front of her.
"Ariana, what are you doing here?" She screeched.
"I am working, Alice," Ariana replied with so much fire in her voice that Calhoun smiled and stood protectively by her side.
Alice moved her eyes from Calhoun to Ariana and then back again.
"What's going on here?"
