A Risky Plan
Hurried panicked footsteps were dragging along the concrete floor and I paused as I observed everything while my lame bodyguard was urging me to move.
“Come on. What are you gawking there for?” his deep gruff voice said, “They’re going to kill you and you're just going to stand there?”
Tsk this werewolf. He was just in a sour mood but when my life is now on the verge of danger, he’s out here worrying.
“Oh, that's a fair trade. I would rather get captured by them than endure your presence.” I said sarcastically.
He breathes deeply, obviously tired of my tactics and having to put up with my bullsh*t.
“I know we hate each other, just tell that me later. Right now, you are in danger.”
I nodded, almost slipping as one of the she-wolves bumped into me as she tried to run away. He caught me with his big buff hands and I asked, “What’s your name again?” I asked.
“Do you have a death wish? You’re even asking me at the wrong time.” he grabbed my hand.
“Stop complaining and just tell me.”
“Fine. It’s Maximus.”
I raised my eyebrows, “Hmmm…does not suit you well enough.”
You can fight and judge me all you want later. Drop that. I’ll take you whether you like it or not.”
I don't know why I feel so relaxed but suddenly, my ears started ringing and I could hear someone talking in my head.
“Gather all their heads and along with their past beta.” it sounded like a man was talking to me as he sounded urgent and sharp in my head but as far as I know, only Alpha Ace could do that since he marked me.
I paused, looking around if someone was whispering to me, then realizing it.
I was able to eavesdrop on the enemy’s conversation.
“Looks like it's not me who they wanted. It's Beta mark.” I said to Maximus.
“How’d you know?”
“Would you believe me if I said I heard a man…no…their alpha giving his order just now?”
He scowled, “No…only Alpha Ace has that kind of ability,....”
Then how did I manage to do that? Ace must have passed it on to me. I guess there are many things I do not know.
I just sighed, brushing that off. For now, we must focus on how to counterattack these enemies while Ace left.
A plan suddenly formed in my head. And I know it would be something he wouldn't agree on.
“I am tired of running from them just because I am weak. I am going to outsmart them. I have a plan.”
“What plan?”
“Tell me where Mark is exactly?” There is one solution for this. Since we lack the fighter, we need the help of the second strongest of this pack. He might not be the beta anymore but he has still the strength of ten werewolves alone.
He would prove to be useful today.
He refused to answer and I just walked ahead, “fine, I’ll find him out myself.”
Maximus wasn’t able to answer as I dashed off. I could remember where he was kept since the last time Ace brought me there but I couldn’t remember where exactly he was situated so I trusted my nose this time. I sniffed his scent and was led to the farthest cell.
With chains dangling and his shirtless body hung to the wall, I could see him sleeping but his eyes opened up to the sound of me.
I cleared my throat, “Hey. Wake up.”
It was dark but I didn't have to have light to feel his gaze on me. He didn't talk. His expression; stayed neutral.
“Your alpha left. And now the pack is being attacked.”
“And what does that have to do with me?”
I grabbed the lock on his cell and tried to destroy it with my own hands. It hurt a hit, but I mustered all my energy and finally managed to break the lock.
“I’ m letting you out. We need help out there.” I said, knowing he was strong enough to even get out of here himself without my help but he didn't. He just chose to stay there and pay for his sins.
I admit that there is still some anger I have left for him from getting me in trouble but right now, I chose to step it aside.
“Why?” His voice was raggedy and hoarse.
“Yes. Why the hell did you leave him out?” Behind me, there was Maximus who was glaring at me.
I turned to Mark, “If you want to regain your pride and prove your loyalty to your alpha, then I believe this is the best time to do it. Save the pack.” I then turned to Maximus, “and you. If you don't want the enemies to win, then you have to shut your mouth and let him do his business.”
“You put too much trust in me, Kira. What if I will run away?”
I smirked, “I know you. You won't do that.”
He cursed under his breath, and instantly break off his chains as he stretch his whole body, his bones cracking and I know he must have been craving to move. This time he will have the freedom to do it. After all, he loves to hunt. He then walked up ahead, shirtless and barefoot with only denim shorts on.
“Fine. Let's do this.”
Maximus cursed me, and if I wasn't the alpha’s mate, he must have already buried my body deep into the ground.
******
Maximus doesn't completely trust Mark but he didn't have a choice but to let him go on a rampage. It was like a killing spree for him. He just helped him kill the enemies.
After he was done, I could only see his body getting some scraped but overall, he was fine.
Maximus then walked to me, “listen, we need to talk.”
I covered my ears, not wanting to hear him scold me. I know it's childish to do this but I just don't want to talk to him now.
“Spare your talk. Let’s just wrap this up.” I said, pointing to the dead bodies splattered around the ground as their blood dripped and turn scarlet.
If it was the past me, I would have panicked at the sight of too much bloodshed but now that I had witnessed a lot, I must have gotten immune to it.
He shook his head, “It is a different matter. I want to talk to you about how strange you are.”
That caught me off guard. I thought Maximus was mocking me again when he continued with a deadly serious expression on his face, “I am the fastest in this pack, second to the alpha yet you managed to outrun me. You heard the enemies from that distance. And you could sense someone by their scent. You broke his lock. How? Humans normally couldn’t do that.”
I tried to process what he said because he has a point. If he didn't point it out, I wouldn't have noticed these strange things that have been happening to me.
