Bloodshot Eyes
ALPHA ACE'S POV
“Ace,” I heard a voice and my eyes opened, seeing a stranger and Alpha Magnus.
Alpha Magnus smirked, “You thick skin, I’m surprised you are alive still.”
I instinctively grabbed my shoulder, which the arrow hit, and was surprised that it wasn’t in harsh pain anymore. It felt hurtful still, but it is now bearable. I could see that the stranger was
Magnus’s pack doctor as he carefully placed the bandage around me.
Magnus was watching me with a solemn look and I snorted.
Tsk. This is rare, this man never pitied me. All he did was mocked me, call me his friend, and then proceed to ask for help when I knew damn well he just wanted to mess up with my pack.
“What the hell are you looking at?” I glared at him, wanting to sit upright but the pack doctor stopped me.
Magnus chuckled at me, “You just woke up, all healed up because of me yet here you are, cursing at me instead of thanking me.”
I rolled my eyes at him, I didn’t have any energy to fight him back earlier but now, I want to flip the table over and hit him, “It’s Kamilah who let me in. You refused to help me.”
He pursed his lips, “Awe, you know I was just teasing you.”
He then sat down and his playful grin turned into a sad expression, “I never would have thought that I would witness the fearful, the strongest Lycan King, to be in my infirmary, lying here in a weak state.”
I glared at him, I do not know what this bastard’s planning to do but he definitely gets in my never no matter what he does.
He then continued on, “Your mate captured, your pack members killed. You are the only one here, return to your pack to heal before saving your mate.”
As much as I want to punch this bastard, I knew he was right. He had a point. However, I refuse to listen from someone like him, “If this happened to you, what would you do?”
“I’ll never let Kamilah hurt in the first place.” He answered, “You just turned weak. Seems that all those training were useless.”
“Don’t you dare mock me?” I sat upright, wincing in pain in the process as the pack doctor stopped me.
“Stop moving, Lycan King. Your wounds might reopen again. I had just finished extracting the poison, although there are some that remained in your body so you must feel a bit nauseous.” The pack healer warned me.
Magnus nodded, “Listen to what my pack healer says. It’s for your own good. Relax. I am not picking up a fight. You just got healed, rest up.”
I breathed deeply, gritting my teeth, “I hate owing you.”
That made him release a cheeky grin, “Man, you should have saved us from that fight. But oh well, that was finished now.”
Magnus decided it was too tiring to tease me so he decided to finally leave me alone with my thoughts.
The pack healer remained to check my condition, and Maximus stayed to guard me when he stood up, “Arya and Alpha Kai are outside wanting to visit.”
“Alpha Kai? That bastard shows up only now?” I scoffed, “Let them in.”
Maximus seemed to hate the idea but he opened the door and let them in. He stepped forward, and I heard Arya speak up.
“We’re here to see our friend.”
Kai gave Maximus an intimidating look and the two had a staring contest for a minute before Maximus gave up and stepped aside. Good.
I pretended to close my eyes as the pack healer went to them, saying, “I’ll only give you five minutes. Stressing him out would only further his injury.”
“Remember, five minutes.” Maximus reminded them as he left us alone.
I could feel Arya’s gaze on me, pitying me. With all those bandages wrapped all around my shoulder, she was judging my condition.
I blame this poison for dulling my senses and that my alpha healing abilities seemed to not work. I pretended to stir in my sleep.
I sighed, jerked upright, and grabbed Arya by the throat, my eyes bloodshot red.
She raised her hands up in surrender, “Alpha Ace, relax, it’s me.”
I raised my eyebrows, sniffing her and making sure it was her, and when I was certain, I dropped my hands from her throat and glanced beside her to see the bastard Kai.
Instanlty, I shot up in the bed as my hands slammed into Kai’s face and gripped his neck tightly.
“You bastard!” I yelled, wanting to punch Kai again. “Where the f*ck were you, fool? How dare you show up your face. I swear I’ll kill you!”
Arya got in between us before things start to go heated. She made us sit and calmed the situation.
“This is the second time I am hit today,” Kai announced, wiping his lips which were full of blood now.
I huffed, feeling satisfied but wanting to hit him until he was begging me to stop.
Kai glared back at me, “I will let it slide Ace.”
Tension was lingering as I held my ground, meeting his eyes with my bloodshot eyes. Arya cleared her throat and asked me as she change the topic, “How are you feeling?”
“Like shit.” I replied, “I’m glad you have to have that.” I added sarcastically.
She sighed at my response. She looked like she want to rebut or fire back but she have to keep in mind something and she breathed deeply, trying to keep her patience from wearing thin.
I then turned to Kai sitting beside her, “And you bastard, explain yourself.”
“Why? Do I have to be there to help you save your girl?” I responded, clearly still angry, “You’ve grown weaker Lycan King. Soon, other alphas would go after you because you are undeserving of your title. I believe you need to be replaced.”
I ignored his comment, not even wanting to hear his voice as my eyes roamed around the room, “Kira…where f*ck is she?”
Arya gulped... Captured by the fowlers.”
I nodded, standing up but Arya stopped me.
I gave her a look, “Who’s going to rescue her now? Stop pushing me. I have to go-”
“At this rate, you’re only going to your funeral.” She muttered, cutting my sentence off. “Your senses are weakened, the poison is still in your body.”
I gritted my teeth, “Then what do you suggest I do? Let my mate be attacked there?” I hissed as I felt my wound open up. Damn this.
“You have to heal first and regain your energy.” She suggested, “That is the only way for now.”
“They won’t harm her, trust me.” Said another voice behind us and I didn’t have to look behind to know Gusev was there. This damn vampire is just everywhere. “The fowlers are human too, don’t forget. And your mate is in her own kind now. They won’t do something that would harm her…for now.”
Seeing the vampire, I was about to attack him again but they stopped me again.
Gusev shielded his face, “Ah ah, don’t hurt me, I am the reason why you are still alive here.”
“Can you leave us alone?” Asked Kai beside me.
Gusev raised his eyebrows, obviously not agreeing to that, “What? I just arrived and you’re asking me to leave?”
“Shut up, vampire.” Both of I and Kai snapped at him.
Gusev glanced at Arya for help, whimpering but she shrugged, “You heard them. Let’s go.”
They decided to leave both of us as silence fell.
“So? What do you want?” I asked Kai.
Kai smirked, “You, your position. As Lycan King”
I blinked, now sensing that something is off. I knew that my senses were dulled but I would not be wrong to identify it.
He had a different scent. This man in front of me is not Kai. I have to warn Arya…
He instantly chuckled, “I am just kidding man. I wish you’ll heal soon, let’s go and save your mate.” He said, patting me on the shoulder as he walked away.
One thing was different. Kai never talks like that.
He would see me struggling and dying, but he would never wish me something good. That’s the kind of friend he is.
So if that person is not Kai, who is he?
