Rescued
He then approached me, and his soft black fur glided on mine as he laid his head on mine. I could smell his scent as he panted behind me. “Let me just stay in this position before I’ll let you go.”
I paused at that. Let me go? What is Alpha Kai saying now?
I know that he is not himself now, I wanted to pry and ask him further but the next thing I know, he leaned in and claimed my lips, pulling me deep within him but I was still unclear of what he said so I pushed him away.
His eyes bore before me, “I know that my brother could hear your thoughts. When you’re with me, shut it off. I do not want his piece within you.” He said and I rolled my eyes.
“Psh, as if I have any choice in leaving this place. I am imprisoned here-”
“I could let you free.” He suddenly stated.
My mouth suddenly dropped at his words. What? Is he hearing himself right now? What happened to Kai? He must have eaten something for him to be so kind tonight.
“Are you hearing yourself, Alpha Kai?” I clarified, wanting to make sure of it.
He looked at me for a whole minute before nodding, “Go now.”
I know him enough to identify when he is joking but in his case, he never jokes and messes around. Alpha Kai is Alpha Kai. Once he utters something, he is sure of it.
But letting me….go now is a bit..over the top.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him, “What?” This must be a test right? If I would give in?
Pausing, I carefully examined his expression. He was clenching his jaw, but his eyes looked like they were indeed final in deciding.
“What about your twin?” I asked, “He’ll kill you, Kai.”
He shrugged. “Stop thinking about that. You should be worrying about yourself.”
Worrying for myself? Yes, I am worried about myself and he doesn’t need to worry for me…
I breathed deeply, “Then I’ll go now…”
Suddenly, I saw an arrow coming our way, and my feet froze on the spot. Alpha Kai instantly pushed me away, and I stumbled on my feet. I could see the arrow had pierced through his right chest, followed by blood leaving his body. The stench was too overbearing, and I leaned down to check if his wound was severe.
“I’m alright.” He hissed, despite grabbing the arrow and attempting to remove it.
I shook my head, pushing his hand so he would stop, “No, go back to your pack and have the pack doctor heal it for you.”
He looked up at me, “And what about you? Enemies are here.”
Enemies? I blinked, not sensing any harm or danger within me.
I sniffed at the familiar scent just near us.
If I’m not mistaken, they are here.
My father’s rogue pack is here.
And they are rescuing me. Anticipation and excitement suddenly evoked me and I tried to keep my cool.
Deep breath, Arya. Kai will sense this. I tried hard to remove thoughts circling in my head as I know Alpha Zef would read my mind.
No, I shouldn't let him know about this.
But beside me, Alpha Kai was quick to catch on as he sniffed the air and growled, “Rogues!”
However, it was already too late when I could see my past pack members at the front, fiercely challenging Alpha Kai who came in defense.
Damn. My time to escape.
“Everyone from Midnight pack!” Yelled an all too familiar voice from the front, along with her curly crazy hair that fell on her waist. Her icy and raven eyes seemed to bury someone with those stares. “I demand you to hand over Arya right this instant.”
Her voice cut through the air, silencing everyone, and her intimidating stance was there. My lips formed a smirk.
There’s no denying it. It is Maya. She has been wandering around and I had never seen her for a year.
But she returned to the pack. She’s Mayhem’s older sister and she has become the next leader after my father and Mayhem died.
Good. She is the rightful next leader considering the power she has over people. and to lead.
She caught my stare even from afar and, “Hey, how are you doing here, leader? It’s time we get you back to your rightful pack.”
“Maya,” I mumbled, releasing a heavy breath.
A smile eased on her lips as she stared at me, “I’m glad you still remember me. It’s been a long time, or have you lost your memory of me?” She teased.
I shook my head, “It has been a year, but I would not forget the charming and strong Maya, my training partner.”
That made Maya laugh, her familiar cheery laugh slicing through the silence of the woods but it was stopped when there was a deep laugh following her. I looked behind to see Alpha Kai, beside me, had already stood up and raised his eyebrows at me, “So you know them….you already planned this escape?”
“What? No.”
His face looked angry, but his voice sounded…disappointed as if I betrayed him…
He scoffed, “I shouldn’t have attempted to let you escape if I had already known this then.”
Maya heard what he said as her eyes glanced at Alpha Kai, and turned to the others, “Let’s kill this shit.”
I institutively went in Alpha Kai’s defense. “Maya…wait.”
“What?” She snapped and furrowed her eyebrows when she saw me on his side. “Why are you not leaving his side? We’re already here, reducing you, we can protect you from these twins now…unless you do not want to leave his side?”
“Maybe we should talk it out?”
I feel Alpha Kai leaning his head on me as he was breathing hard. It was just a mere arrow in his chest and he could heal himself with his alpha ability yet here he is, enduring the pain and hissing..and not even fighting back.
Unless that arrow is not just a normal one?
I glanced at Maya in realization, “You put poison in this arrow, didn’t you?”
“Yes, exactly. and surprisingly it worked on the ferocious ‘Alpha Kai’” she said proudly, “Why are you shocked? Of course, we need to weaken him, he’s our enemy. Now come and leave him.”
They were about to go and get me when I blurted out, “Wait.”
Maya looked back, raising her eyebrows suspiciously at me, “What’s wrong? YOU seem to not want to leave him.” Her eyes then narrowed, “Or you had grown attached to this bastard of a capturer? The twin who killed your father and your mate?”
