We are together
Murilo
I couldn't understand what was going on in Virginia's head and why it was so difficult for her to stop seeing me as an enemy and accept that we were in this together.
When she pulled my hands away from her body and stood up in an unnecessary rush, I didn't even have time to say anything, let alone react to what happened next. The next image I saw was Virginia's body falling over the bed, as a matter of luck, after all.
I didn't even want to think about what might have happened if she had gone to the floor, or even worse if she had hit her head on some piece of furniture in the small room.
" Virginia! " I screamed in horror.
To my utter relief, just as quickly as it happened, she too came to her senses, opening her eyes slowly, looking dazed.
" I'm sorry..." She pleaded, and tears began to stream from her eyes, driving me even madder with worry.
" No need to apologize to me, my love " I tried to calm her down.
But Virginia seemed to be a nervous wreck, and I understood that this was not something normal for her. I remembered the girl I had met at the nightclub and who had made sure to do her part in that crazy auction we had gotten into, and how wonderful and special the night we had spent together had been.
That was the Virginia I had fallen in love with, and I was sure that she was that girl and not the woman who seemed to come and go and not really know what she wanted.
" I'll help you get ready, and we'll go to your appointment with the doctor " I spoke in a tone that left no room for questioning on her part " You are very tense and nervous, and this is not doing you any good.
I thought it best not to talk about the baby at that moment because she seemed too sensitive, I understood, given the circumstances in which we found ourselves.
" That's fine " She eventually agreed, looking resigned.
I didn't like to impose things on anyone, much less the girl with whom I wanted to build a healthy relationship, but that moment demanded a firmer attitude from me.
So, after Virginia was already ready, I asked her to accompany me to my apartment because I also needed to shower and change the clothes I had been wearing since the previous afternoon when I went to meet Artemis at the mall.
She didn't like it at all when I told her, already inside my car, that we would have this detour on the way.
" Did you believe that I would go to your appointment the way I am? " I took my hand off the wheel and pointed at myself.
"I imagined that because you are a very busy man, you would just drop me off at the clinic and then get on with your plans for another day of work as the powerful CEO of FERZ.”
Despite Virginia's ironic tone, I thought it best not to respond to her provocation in the way she wished I would, and, taking advantage of the fact that I had just pulled into the parking garage of my apartment building, I just turned off the car and pulled her hand to my lips and kissed it fondly.
" This CEO here will always have time for you.”
She tried to control herself, but I saw that she tried hard not to smile in return for my words, so I took advantage of the fact that the mood had lightened a bit after my statement and turned the car around to open the door for my woman.
" I'm not getting out, Murilo " She refused the offer, but her tone was not rude.
" Would you rather wait for me right here, in the car? " She only confirmed with a positive nod "Are you sure that's a good idea?”
Again a positive nod, and I imitated her, nodded in agreement, and, even against my will, left her in the garage of my building, walking to the elevator.
I did everything as fast as I could and less than twenty minutes later, I was already getting into the elevator again and pushing the button for the basement of the luxurious building I chose to live in and which I imagined would be another negative point for me, as far as Virginia was concerned.
" Hold the elevator for us! " was Aquiles' voice shouting the request.
I did what he asked automatically, but when I realized that he was in the company of Lavinia, I completely regretted it.
" Where were you? " Aquiles asked. "I was at your apartment last night and couldn't find you.”
" I told your cousin that you must have been with the girl from the store, but he didn't believe me, " Lavinia said, her tone mocking.
I looked at Aquiles and his girlfriend and wondered why anyone would be with someone as unpleasant as that petulant actress.
" What's the matter, Lavinia? " I asked, irritated " Can't you accept that I left you at the club to go after Virginia? "I made a point of saying this in front of my cousin because maybe then he would realize what a big mistake he had gotten himself into.”
" Watch how you talk to my girlfriend, man! " Aquiles, however, took Lavinia's pains.
To my complete relief, the elevator arrived at the basement at that very moment and I thought it was better to go down, without going to all the trouble of rebutting Aquiles and ending up arguing with him.
" I went back," I said to Virginia, as I sat in the driver's seat, attempting a tone of amusement that I was far from feeling. "I don't believe I kept you waiting long, did I?”
" In fact, you went very quickly " She also tried a small smile.
Apparently, things were lighter now, and I left with the car, this time towards Dr. Clifford's clinic, even though I didn't like it, after all, it was Virginia who was going to be seen, and I had to follow her wishes in choosing the professional who would accompany her throughout her pregnancy.
But I would make sure to accompany all her consultations and not leave her alone with that seductive doctor.
And what happened in the elevator I wouldn't waste time thinking about now.
