CHAPTER 48
As they left her room, Catherine increased her speed so she could walk faster and get in her room before Adam stopped her. But that didn't happen not when Adam's legs were so long.
"Sighing," she gave up when Adam caught up with her before she could even open the door.
"What do you want?" She snapped. "Please leave me alone."
"Catherine please listen to me, I have no idea how she became pregnant-"
"Really?" She turned to him just so she could get a clearer picture of his face when he answered her question. "You want to tell me honestly you have no idea how she became pregnant? You never had relations with her?"
"Sighing," Adam couldn't lie but be honest. "Yes I had relations but that was before."
"Before what?"
"Before I realized how much you mean to me."
"Really?" Catherine was finding that hard to believe, she knows she isn't supposed to be like this but she can't help it.
Her heart felt betrayed at the thought that someone is carrying his unborn child.
Turning her until she was facing him, Adam cupped her face in her hands.
"Yes Catherine it is the truth. Earlier in the car, I meant every single word I said. And please if you can only give me a chance, just one to prove it to you I promise to make things better." And Adam plans tomorrow, he would start first by finding out if the baby in Kendal's womb was indeed his.
And if yes, he will think of the next plan of action. But for now, he hopes that Kendal is lying and isn't pregnant because if she is, 'damn him' he swore.
Already too weak to argue, Catherine decided to give him a chance as he said. 'After all, what could be the worst that will happen?' she wondered before looking into Adam's eyes, the sincerity in them melted her heart a little.
"Alright. If you don't mind, I would like to rest now. And regarding the bed thing-"
"Shush, please don't say another word. I am sorry for making an issue out of it. Honestly when I insisted that we shared the same bed, I didn't have an intention of touching you. I just thought we were cool and you trust me now. But I failed to listen to you or tried to understand your point of view. But now, my grandma has helped me see clearer. You can use the bed, I don't mind, I will use the couch."
Catherine just stood and stared at him wondering if a man like him exists who is so understanding and yielding like him. And now, looking at him looking so vulnerable made her feel bad. She felt bad for making him have to sleep on the couch when they could both share the big bed enough for more than two.
She was about to change her mind and ask him to share the bed with her but she stopped herself. At the moment, she didn't want to make any hasty decision that she would regret in the end. She would love to take things slow and steady not rushing into anything because for now a woman is pregnant claiming the baby to be for him.
Until the truth is proven true, Catherine would love to lay low for now. Because the last thing she would do is deny a baby a balanced home with its father. No matter how difficult it is for her, Catherine would always love to do the right thing.
"It's okay, I am no longer upset. Adam,"
"Yes," he gave her his undivided attention.
"How long are we to stay here in Korea?" Suddenly staying in Korea has become unpleasant and she would want nothing more than to go home and relax in her comfortable bed. Not like the bed here is not, she just misses her room.
Alert by her question, Adam suddenly became worried. "Do you by any chance feel uncomfortable in any way? Is it the room, the food, bed-" Adam is ready to have the whole house reconstructed if that is what it takes to make her comfortable.
"No Adam," she stopped him before he went on and on. "It's nothing related to that. Everything is perfect, thank you.” She smiled so he could see how sincere she was. "I just miss home, that's all."
"We can leave first thing tomorrow morning if that is what you want." He promised.
The whole purpose for the trip was to introduce Catherine to his grandmother and mother, and since that has been done there was nothing stopping him at all from leaving.
Catherine felt excited to hear the news but then she remembered Adam's poor mother and grandmother who are so excited to see him, there was no way in the world she would take that from them and cut their happiness short. By taking Adam away so early just to please herself.
"No, that is too soon. How about this weekend?" She asked, feeling that was a much better option.
"Anything for you Cherry." He smiled, making her smile even more before turning to take her leave.
Catherine can't believe how fast she fell in love with the name when only yesterday, she despised it.
Just when she was about to open the door to her room, her stomach growled.
"What! Bad timing." She scolded out loud, forcing Adam to laugh, her cheeks reddened in embarrassment.
"I see someone is hungry. Wow, Catherine you're truly a foodie." His smile brightened. "Come let's get you something to eat. What would you like to have?"
"Maybe some cookies?" She said shyly.
She isn't necessarily hungry for food, just junk food like chocolate mixed milk cookies, some parfait and maybe a smoothie with a creamy cake.
"Alright cookies it is."
They went to the kitchen.
"What are you doing?" Catherine asked when she saw him folding his shirt up and putting on an apron.
"To make some cookies for you." It was already late and Adam wouldn't want to disturb the cook since she must be fast asleep or tired.
"You know how to bake?" She asked in surprise.
"Yeah, I learnt a thing or two." He smiled when he saw her reaction to his response. "Come on, it isn't something new or special."
"Well it is when the person happens to be you." She blurted out before she could stop herself making Adam chuckle even more. "Oops, sorry I didn't mean it that way."
"No it's fine." He waved it off. "So tell me what's the plan, are you just going to stand there or help me out?"
"Second option." She said shyly.
She would love to watch him cook and also help in the way she can. That way, she would learn how the cook, killing two birds with a stone.
"What can I do?"
At home, Catherine rarely entered the kitchen to make anything and she never felt the need to. But now seeing Adam moving so well in the kitchen with ease made her cower subconsciously in shame. She felt disappointed in herself for failing in that aspect and the urge to learn became dominant in her.
Determined to change, she made a promise to observe and learn from him as he bakes. But one look at his hands the way his muscles flex as he rolled the dough made beads of sweat broke out on her forehead. She hasn't seen any man as hot as Adam looks at the moment.
Making the already tense mood hotter, she fanned herself with her hand.
"You okay?" Adam asked when he noticed how profusely she was sweating.
"Uh, yeah." She pulled away just to create distance.
Achieving that, she exhaled and inhaled before returning back to her former position when she felt she was much better.
The baking took a little while, but in no time it was ready to go to the oven. As Adam baked Catherine opened the fridge to see if there was any fruit she could use in making smoothie or parfait. Luckily she found some.
With the help of Adam, they made it together and Catherine felt much better and soon, she relaxed in his presence. Feeling much comfortable and without acting awkward whenever their bodies touch each other.
