Sense of Wholeness
Aubrianne had basked in the idea that she certainly was no Christen in this situation. Zayne was her soulmate, her other half making her whole.
That sense of wholeness, certainty, and completion filled her...
She had even imagined her way forward, continuing her education/internship while supporting her mate and his community.
Aubrianne realized she might need to apply for a transfer and work under someone else already thinking miles down the road.
Her heart ached at the thought of not working closely with her father. Aubrianne truly wanted to work under her father. But as she planned her future with Zayne.
She accepted that there was no future where she would not choose to have him in her life.
Nevertheless, it was finally morning, and Aubrianne had eaten breakfast, not much of it. She did not have much of an appetite. She then showered, dressed casually in jeans, a loose white t-shirt, and sneakers.
She went for a comfortable casual today with no makeup, her hair combed out and wrapped in a low bun; she wore dark sunglasses.
Jada also dressed similarly, except her loose t-shirt was light blue, and soon they were on their way.
Aubrianne's eyes gazed out the window blankly, she was thankful her father had kept his promise, and the men were off to Ragnuff Crescent. They left earlier to head to the airport.
Oh, how she wished she had been on that flight. Nevertheless, her mate was getting support, and that was all that mattered.
She continued to count down the time of her departure.
"We're here," Jada said, nudging Aubrianne from her daydreams.
Aubrianne had been spacing out a lot, wanting to live in her moment with Zayne. She glanced around and realized they were at the Private Hospital, where the doctor's office was, the one Dr. Nathan White had arranged.
Ok, this should be a quick check-up, and she'd be out of here; Kirrah and Shawn were also with Aubrianne and her father's team trailing them.
"You ok?" Jada asked, concern etched in her voice and features. Aubrianne shrugged. That was a loaded question. She was ok. She knew she would survive, but the emptiness in her chest was not a welcome feeling.
And the fact that she missed HIM terribly.
Nevertheless, Shawn parked, and the crew made it into the building of the private hospital. There were different doctors in the building offering various services.
A few people were either coming from an appointment or going to one. There were even a couple of families they passed on their way to the elevator, walking through the main receptionist downstairs in the lobby.
However, they already knew which floor they would be going to. Light music filtered through tiny speakers in the walls and vents on the floor, and they heard it in the elevator.
They quickly got into an elevator after it emptied and headed up to the fifth floor. That's where the medically trained neurosurgical specialists were.
The atmosphere seemed charged as Shawn and Kirrah stepped out of the elevator. Something was amiss. While Aubrianne was oblivious to anything at all, simply drowning in hollowness.
Shawn motioned Alpha Thornton's team of five to follow close behind as he and Kirrah took the lead while they walked down the corridor. "Ok, it's the door on the right," Jada spoke directly behind Shawn.
Shawn and Kirrah acknowledged and entered first, checking out the room; it was like any other doctor's office. The lighting was white led lights, the walls were lilac, and the ceiling was white.
Straight ahead, a small chandelier hovered above the reception area with a space to sit and wait on the right, lined with a couple of rows of joined seats, a glass coffee table adorned with magazines, and a water cooler nearby.
A small setup to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. A corridor to your left with doors on either side.
However, there was no receptionist. It was empty. But they could sense they were not alone.
Kirrah and Shawn moved close and touched the buzzer on the desk. While Aubrianne and Jada stood by the door while the other guards were alert in the hallway.
Aubrianne thought they were all ridiculous that this was a doctor's office for crying out loud. What could possibly go wrong?
Nevertheless, she patiently waited while silently fuming, just great. More things to keep her back.
Then a nurse walked out, "Good morning, I am Nurse Sheila Brown, and how may I help you?"
Shawn's eyebrows furrowed; where had he heard that name before? "Nurse Sheila Brown, I feel like I heard that name before," Shawn spoke.
Nurse Shelia beamed, "Oh, you certainly have. We met back in Clifton Hill."
"Right... ok... well, we are here for Ms. Aubrianne Ivanov's appointment. Her doctor back in Clifton Hill had put us on to..."
"Oh, great news, Dr. Nathan White and I were able to make the trip to be here today for Aubrianne after all." Nurse Brown piped up, waving a hand casually.
Shawn did not think much of it, as Dr. Nathan White was visiting that hospital when Aubrianne had come in. This could be a norm for them.
While Kirrah wondered why that name sounded as if she had heard it before, Shawn called Aubrianne and Jada in.
Aubrianne stepped in first, and Nurse Sheila Brown's eyes lit up in anticipation and excitement. Her smile widened. However, her once bright smile quickly faltered at the entourage of bodyguards that entered behind them.
She almost visibly paled. However, she held her composure, hoping to come off as someone just taken aback by the presence of so many men, though she needed to be sure.
Were they here with HER?
"Hi, this is a private appointment. Did you come to see any doctor in particular?" Nurse Sheila casually asked, leaning to the side and addressing one of the guards.
It was Aubrianne who finally answered, finding that they were wasting too much time and wanting to be done with this.
"They are with me; should we proceed with the scan now?" Her tone clearly hinted at a subtle annoyance. Her eyebrows rose in question as she fixed the strap of her tiny clutch-like purse.
"Uh...sure.. sure." Sheila offered her a nervous smile; it was lopsided.
"Let me go get the doctor," Sheila spun on her heel and slipped into another area.
Soon Dr. Nathan White came sauntering out and greeted everyone, then, "Ahh, Aubrianne, so good to see you. How are you?" His hands were outstretched, then clasped together in front of him.
"I am good, shall we?" Aubrianne's tone was short and concise, and she lifted an eyebrow.
"Oh, of course... sure, come this way. Your security can stay out here." Dr. Nathan White spoke as his hands reached out, hovering behind Aubrianne's back as if ready to push her forward.
Aubrianne paused in her steps suddenly at Leia's stirring because of his words. 'Something is not right. I am getting too many mixed emotions and vibrations from this one.'
'What do you mean?' Aubrianne found it strange that Leia was reacting to his comments. This was Dr. Nathan. He was harmless.
'He seemed too excited for a simple scan, that's for sure. Just be alert. We need our security.'
Aubrianne said when Dr. Nathan enquired if everything was alright. "Oh, they need to come with me." One thing about Aubrianne: she was not about to ignore her wolf's warnings.
"Oh no, I am sorry, but they are not allowed in the room with the patient," He shrugged casually, "You know, Doctor Patient, confidentially and all."
Dr. White then plastered his panty-dropping smile, his gorgeous gray eyes twinkling with something.
"Oh, I see." Aubrianne jutted her chin out, and her eyebrows rose again in question while both hands now clutched her purse to the front of her, "So what if I gave consent?"
Aubrianne was not backing down.
"Oh, sorry." He pushed his lips out in an attempt at a sad face, "But it does not work that way, you..." Aubrianne quickly cut him off. She did not have time for this bullsh1t.
Either he let her in with her entourage, or she would schedule another appointment elsewhere.
"Ok, well, Dr. White, it was certainly nice to see you again." She smiled, and it looked so genuine, even though she was puzzled by Dr. White's refusal to allow her guards in even after she said it was ok.
"So sorry for wasting your time. I would have to go somewhere else," Aubrianne smiled again, and this time it did not reach her eyes.
She turned on her heels, so over this, she had no time to waste, and time was wasted there.
"Kirrah, get me another appointment for when I get back, and be sure to inform them of my bodyguards," Aubrianne spoke over her shoulder, already outside the door.
The crew and her father's team left the doctor's office, and they all piled into the elevator. Leaving a red-faced and confused Dr. Nathan White.
He was so sure she would have gone for it...
