Chapter 54: Witches and Spiders.
GIOVANNI.
I didn’t know how to contain my shock when I saw her, Fifi. She had always been there right from childhood. She had walked into my life and taken it as hers. That was the simple explanation of what she does.
Fifi Maja, daughter of one of the most prominent families in Italy. It’s quite funny that she was here. I had learned to tolerate her ever since I met her. She didn’t even realize that I have nothing for her.
Due to the arranged marriage fantasy my family has put into her head, she thinks she owns me. So, she goes around laying claims over me. Like she owned me. Well, it’s been what she’s been made to believe.
The look of shock on Kiki’s face will haunt me forever. It would forever haunt me. At that moment, I didn’t know how to feel as I looked down at Fifi. She was smiling widely with her hands hooked with mine.
Anyone who sees her smiling this way would think that she was this kind of smiling angel but the truth was that, Fifi was far from being an angel. The mean things she did to me as a kid would always be ingrained in my brain. I could never forget it even if I wanted to. She was so cruel. I wondered if as a child back then she was that wicked, how would she be now?
One particular incident I would never forget was when…
FLASHBACK
“Young Master,” A maid called when she stepped into Giovanni’s room. Giovanni who was curled up in bed reading a book looked up from his book to meet the maid’s eyes. She was quick to bow her head at the contact.
“Yes?” He answered her call.
“Ms. Fifi is here to see you.” The maid informed him. Immediately, a frown came on his face and he let out a groan.
“Tell her I’m asleep. Tell her that. I don’t want to see her.” He mumbled. The maid bowed, turned around, and left the room. Giovanni scoffed, sneering when he heard Fifi's voice.
“Wake him up! I’m here to see him so wake him up!” He heard her tiny voice order the maid. He quickly put the book away when he started to hear a thundering voice and footsteps heading towards him. He laid down on the bed and pulled the cover over him. He exhaled and shut his eyes close.
He clutched the duvet tightly when she opened the door and stepped in. He tried to act naturally like he was asleep. Fifi scooted over the bed to his face, her breath fanning his. “You are so cute when you try to pretend like you are asleep.” She cooed.
So she knew? He asked himself but didn’t stir. He almost burped when she leaned in close and planted a kiss on his cheeks. What was she doing?
Even though he’s been told times without numbers that he should always be with her, he still didn’t like her. She blew him another kiss before climbing down the bed. He could tell she was still in the room, lingering around so he didn’t fall for the bait.
Fifi tucked her lips in a frown as she reached for her bag which she had dumped earlier. She fetched out a little something she had managed to keep hidden. Slowly yet carefully, she leaned forward and placed it just before Giovanni’s head so that when he opens his eyes, he would meet his present first.
Her face drew up a cynical smile. She humphed and finally decided to leave the room, sneaking out. She bumped into the maid on her and she passed her a smile.
“When Giovanni finally wakes up from his pretense sleep, tell him I’m with Gaston and he should come right to me.” She smiled and skimped away.
The maid watched her leave wondering how she figured out that he was not sleeping. Just when the maid concluded that she was a witch, she heard Giovanni’s muffled scream. She gave off everything and ran straight to his room.
“Young master, are you okay?” She asked him when she met him on the floor, his knees drawn up together with shaking limbs as tears poured down his eyes in torrents.
Giovanni in his shaky state managed to point at something. A little creepy creature moving on his bed towards nowhere was what the maid saw. She stood paralyzed wondering how it managed to get in despite how much she and the other maids tried to clean the room.
Giovanni on his part was fighting to keep the tears from running with anger in his veins. When he was sure that Fifi had left the room earlier, he had gone ahead to open his eyes. But on getting his eyes open, the first thing his eyes met was the small creepy creature moving towards his hair.
It was a spider! A big one!
“Where is Fifi?” He asked, pushing himself up and wiping at his tears. By now, the maid had been able to connect the dots so she only nodded.
“She is with Gaston. Young master, I suggest you take things easy.” She tried to advise him but Giovanni who was already too angry wasn’t having it. He stormed out of the room and headed straight for Gaston’s. Gaston was laying on the bed playing chess with Fifi. He laughed when he saw Giovanni’s bloodshot eyes.
“You witch!” Giovanni growled reaching for her. Fifi scrambled back in fear. Then, she burst into laughter.
“Aww! The young master is awake. Why? I thought you were in a good sleep?” She teased him. Gigi mad with rage destroyed the chess game they were playing cos her attention was on it.
“You Fifi is a witch! I never want to see you nor have anything to do with you again!” He had yelled to her. Afterward, he stomped off. Minutes later, a maid came to fetch him because his father was requesting to see him. He braced himself up and went to see his dad.
His father just like always chose Fifi’s words over his. She had faked crying and get him into trouble. He ended up in the closet for days when he refused to apologize to her for yelling at her.
“See Gigi, I play this game better than you. So, the sooner you accept that I’m your fiancee, the better for both of us.” She had whispered to him when she came to see him locked up without food in the closet. He had never seen her in any light than that girl from childhood.
END OF FLASHBACK.
I groaned running a hand through my hair. When I finally got released, Fifi followed me everywhere I went like a lost puppy. She was one of the reasons why I was eager to leave Italy. But now, she had found me, again.
