After closing that door, I walked very slowly towards the stairs that led to the top floor where my room was located. I looked to the corner of the room where Julian and I had just kissed. I felt hot right away, I remembered him touching my body, the way he touched, the way he took my lips in a delicious kiss. I felt moisture gather between my legs, a cold wind came through the window and I felt a shiver as if he was breathing on me.
I went up to my room and tried to forget that little moment. I laid down on my bed and stayed quiet not wanting to think about anything. Minutes later I ended up falling asleep. When I woke up later, I heard a conversation downstairs, I knew that voice well. Olivia. I got up quickly and ran down the stairs, when I got there she looked at me and opened a huge smile, we hugged as if we hadn't seen each other for a year.
"Look who decided to show up!" I said happy to see her.
"I can explain." She said in a joking tone. "How are you?" she asked.
"More or less..." I whispered in her ear. "I will explain later." She nodded and smiled.
"Look what I made for my princesses." Grandma said taking a sardine pie out of the oven.
"How delightful!!!" I screamed excitedly, my hungry stomach was already rumbling, it was my favorite pie.
"Oh dear, you're always trying to fatten me up, aren't you Grandma Florence?" Olivia said. She also called Florence grandma, we always felt like family.
"Don't be silly girl, you don't get fat. Do you think I forgot the day they ate the whole bread with guava paste and left João with nothing? If that were the case, you'd be obese." Grandma said smiling.
"That's true. But João is always late, he should be here right now." Olivia spoke.
"Where is he himself?" I asked picking up the plates to set the table.
"He went to find Dorothy." Olivia responded by rolling her eyes.
"Dorothy?!" I exclaimed in surprise. "I can't believe he's doing this. She almost broke my ankle in gym class!" I said indignantly.
"I warned him you wouldn't like it, and neither do I. I much prefer Larissa. But he's an idiot, just like all men!" Olivia shrugged, and then I sensed there was something wrong with her.
"Come on girls, not all men are bad. You shouldn't generalize." Grandma said.
"Um... Dona Florence..." Olivia and I spoke together and she blushed so cutely that I wanted to bite.
"Silly girls, let's eat, I'm hungry." She said trying to change the subject.
"It's for now!" I said and started setting the table with Olivia's help.
We had breakfast together and talked about various subjects. Good thing I had them with me, thank heavens for that. I was trying my best to look happy, but the reality was that my heart was tight, my thoughts only had the image of Julian and our kiss. Just remembering it made my mouth water and I craved more.
After we had breakfast, Olivia washed the dishes and my grandmother went to rest for a while on the porch with her poetry book. I cleaned the whole table and spent a broom in the kitchen, leaving everything clean Olivia and I went up to my room.
"Now tell me. What's going on?" Olivia asked as soon as we entered the room.
"How do you know something is up?" I sat on the bed and she sat next to me.
"You said that you are more or less and I can see in your eyes that you are not well. Tell me, let it out." She said making a sign with her hands.
"Today I had my first kiss." I just spoke and took a long breath remembering how magical it was.
"What?! And you were going to tell me when?" she exclaimed low.
"Just today, you were gone! And today it happened." I explained.
"And how was it? Who did you go with? Tell me, I want details. I didn't know I was in love with someone, I thought Lucas had gotten married." Olivia said.
"Don't even remind me of this Lucas." I spoke.
Lucas was a man who lived at the end of Rua da Olivia, he always chased me and asked to date me, get married and have children. Exactly how he spoke. For a year he did that, when I pretended not to hear from him he stopped and is now married with two small children.
"His name is Julian..." I started to tell her everything I knew about him and everything that had happened between us. "I didn't know it felt so good to kiss." I finished with that sentence after telling her everything.
"Hello!? Did you sleep together? Where's my little angel? I want her back!" Olivia joked.
"We slept in the same bed, but nothing happened, you talking like that seems like we did..." I scolded her.
"I know that. But hey, kissing isn't all that great. Unless you kiss someone who knows what he's doing. And that's a sign that this Julian guy knew what he was doing." She said and winked at me.
"Hey friend, he did know. And how..." I hissed.
"You're red! Eloíse Espinoza are you in love with this guy?" Olivia asked me.
"What?!" She said just pretending to be offended. But I knew very well how to change the course of the conversation, she loved to tell news. "And you huh? João told me about you and Matheus..." I said, she threw herself on the bed whimpering.
"He finished!" She said.
"Hi?! But you guys just... You know." I said stunned.
"We made love, yes, I saved myself for him. But do you know what happened? I got messages on his cell phone with Belinda, those six months we were together, it was just a joke for him. He didn't really care about me, I I even thought so. But after I saw that, it was over." She explained.
"Friend, I'm sorry..." I said sadly for her, no one deserved to go through such a situation. I went to her and hugged her, I felt something wet and realized that she was crying.
"I still love him..." she said and cried even harder into my shoulder. "But I would never forgive betrayal." Completed.
"It's okay, you didn't make a mistake in loving him, he made the mistake of not appreciating your love and playing with your feelings. But know that you're beautiful and someone nice will come along for you. You're absolutely right, so am I I would never be able to forgive a betrayal." I spoke and smoothed her back.
"Thank you my little doll. I love you, thank you for always being here for me." She said and hugged me tighter.
"I'll always be here. As I'm sure you will be for me." I answered with a heavy heart for her. My poor friend, no one deserves to suffer for love. I didn't love Julian, but I could feel at least a little bit of her pain when I saw Julian walking out that door earlier.
After watching a movie, we heard a horn downstairs. It was João, he had gone to get his sister. We went downstairs together after crying watching the movie, and there he was in front of the car waiting with the biggest cynic face.
"How are the most beautiful things in the universe?" He said smiling. Surely he had taken Dorothy to bed, to be so happy to go out with that nasty one. We both looked around searching.
"Oh Dorothy isn't here!" Olivia said and I tried to hold in a laugh.
"I get it. You guys are jealous of the girl. Guys, I only date her, you can't judge me for that. It was nothing." He said.
"They're all the same anyway! Even if we don't like her, she's a girl and she has feelings. You can't tell people that going out with her was nothing!" I said irritated.
"Bye Eloíse. I don't want to stay here listening to João's nonsense." Olivia gave me a kiss and got in the car.
"Oh pumpkin... Don't get mad at me." He said coming to me to take my hands.
"Come see me later. Alone." I said in his ear and slapped his arm. "Bye you idiot. Take care of Olivia, she needs it." I whispered.
"Thank you, beautiful." João said and I was surprised, he had never called me beautiful. But I ignored it and waved my hand.
I needed João to come here alone, I needed his shoulder to lean on too, Olivia needed me and I couldn't unload my anguish onto her who was already suffering, so I was her support. But Joao never grieved over girls, so he was the best one to comfort me.
After the two left, I walked into the house and my nightly routine was the same. Having dinner with my grandmother and then going to bed, but that night I couldn't sleep, Julian wouldn't let me, even though he wasn't there, he occupied every second of my mind and was still causing me insomnia.
