"Kaden what in Goddess's--" I began but stopped at the broken look on his face.
"Kaden?" I whispered walking over to him. He was looking from the flames to me and back.
"It doesn't hurt. My mom--she could do this... You never saw her do it, did you?... Why does it have to come now, when she's dead?" Kaden growled and I laid my hand against him. The flames died out.
"Kaden it's okay baby. I'm sure she would've been thrilled." I said.
"I fucking love you." Kaden said and I looked at him in shock.
"I love you too." I said and he took the clothes gently from me before dressing. I smiled softly at him and was going back toward the house when he tugged me against him and pressed his lips to mine. After a bit we pulled apart.
"So, you think we could incorporate this in the bedroom? Fiery lovemaking?" Kaden asked and I hit his chest as he chuckled.
"Shut up Kaden. Hey, how's Brenton?" I asked and my mate sucked on his teeth.
"You can go visit him, but I've got some files and stuff to fill out in the office." He said and I nodded in understanding.
"Okay, I'll see you later." I said placing a quick kiss on his lips and walking away.
I made my way down the cellar halls and stopped in front of my brother. He was leaned against the wall asleep, his chest rising and falling.
I was about to leave when his voice made me stop.
"Hey Sis, sup?" He said and I looked to see his dark eyes watching me.
"Just wanted to check on you." I said and he sat up straighter.
"I'm good." He said and I smiled softly. He stood and gave a stretch.
"Thank you, for earlier-" I began.
"No need. Siblings have each other's backs right?" He said and I couldn't help smiling wider.
"So, is she dead?" He asked.
I knew what he meant; I just didn't know what to say.
"She's dead... is it true?" Brenton asked me his dark eyes flashing.
I nodded and the young wolf stumbled back against the wall as he abruptly sat.
"Thank you." His words surprised me.
He seemed to notice and offered a small reassuring smile. His hand rubbed the back of his neck and the chains rattled.
"Mother was sick... I knew that, she was wrong... so wrong... but she was my mother and I could never bring myself to stop her. I'd already lost my father..." Brenton said softly and I sighed.
"Brent you're only fifteen, it was not your place to have such a burden and I'm sorry for that." I said and he gave me a long look.
"I'm sorry about how you lived... I remember Mother would tell me about you and when I was old enough she'd tell me to watch you... I know what you've been through... I'm truly sorry no one ever helped you." My brother said and I smiled weakly.
"Someone did help me: my mate." I said and Brenton smiled softly.
"That's good." Brenton said nodding as he sat up. He gave a slight chuckle.
"He really loves you. He almost killed me after you were taken. Broke almost every bone in my body. He's a real monster, but I'm glad someone like him can protect you." Brenton gave me a genuine smile before continuing.
"You needed a monster. But he's a good guy. He let me live, hell he even would come down here to have talks with me... He's not too bad." Brenton said softly and I smiled.
"Thanks kid." A deep familiar voice said and I turned to see Kaden leaning against the cell door.
"No, thank you." Brent said and dipped his head in respect to my mate.
"I've got to go, I'll be back in a bit." Kaden said and I nodded as he left.
"How's the baby? Julius right? Least he's never gonna know his psychotic dad." Brenton said and I frowned.
"What?" I said softly.
"Noah. He busted in the place after you were taken. Said a whole lot of crazy shit to your mate. Tried to kill him. He was working with Mother. Kaden killed him? Ripped him apart? No one told you?" Brenton said with a nervous look and I shook my head.
"No." I said and Brent sucked his teeth and looked around awkwardly.
"Well damn." He said.
"Stop cussing." I snapped and he looked at the ground.
"Sorry." He huffed and I let out a breath.
"I feel so stupid." I groaned and my brother glanced up at me.
"Don't; Noah was like a fu--grade A actor. Sh--I wouldn't've known." Brenton said and I frowned.
"Okay... well if you'll excuse me I've got to find my mate." I said going toward the door.
"I started some shit, didn't I?" Brent asked and I shot him a look.
"Sorry. No cussing." He said and I made my way to the exit.
"Drama!" He called in a sing song voice followed my his own laughter.
I marched up to his office and stalked inside, shutting the door behind me. Kaden looked up from his desk at me about to say something, but faltered.
"Kaden, why didn't you tell me about Noah?" I asked my mate and he tensed.
"What about him?"
"Don't play dumb with me. He tried to kill you; why didn't you tell me this?" I retorted angrily.
"I didn't want to hurt your feelings. I was going to, but with everything about you being or not being barren and Julius; I-I was scared to." Kaden said and I let out a sigh the anger leaving me.
"I need a hug." I said and he vaulted from his chair hurried over to me and pulled me against him.
"Please don't cry baby, please, I can't stand it." Kaden said running his hands comfortingly on my back.
"Okay, that's going to make me cry." I said truthfully and he growled and hugged me tighter.
"If you cry, I won't be able to give you your surprise later." Kaden said and kissed my forehead causing me to scowl.
"I love you." I said softly and he kissed me forehead again.
"I love you too." Kaden said and squeezed my body against his.
"Amelia. I'll be with you in a little while, I've got work to do." Kaden said before placing another kiss to my forehead and walking back to his desk. I watched him go with a wondering frown and a blush.
I sat in the living room bored flipping through channels. Julius played on the floor in pup form.
"Amelia, there you are, come on." Kaden's voice had me jumping and he chuckled softly. I turned to see him standing by the door and he grabbed my hand as I made my way toward him.
"What about Julius?" I said.
"He'll be fine." Kaden sighed.
"Close your eyes." He said leading me through the house. It wasn't a very long walk and soon he had me stopped. He let go of my hand and I heard rustling and couldn't help smiling at a wonderful smell.
"Okay you can open your eyes." He said and I peeled them open. We were in the kitchen.
"What is this?" I asked him and his cheeks reddened a bit as he handed me a plate of delicious smelling cookies.
He chuckled softly and shuffled his feet, "You said you never had a chocolate chip cookie... so I made you some." He said and my heart swelled with emotion.
"I should've done better by you, since I first found you. I was horrible and I've let so much shit happen... I'm sorry." He said and I held up a hand and shook my head.
"Don't apologize. I've already forgiven you, I love you Kaden, there's no need to say sorry anymore." I said softly and my mate smiled.
I took a cookie and bit into it smiling at the warm goodness flooding my mouth. I giggled at Kaden's wondering expression.
"They're better than I imagined." I said with a smile and my mate grinned.
