Chapter 123 Hospital
It was difficult to breathe with the piercing stench of bleach. When I opened them again, I was startled by the brilliant light that was penetrating my closed eyelids. I scrunched up my eyes in response. I had the feeling that I had no control and that I was burdened. I lost all of my mobility, including the use of my hands, my head, and my body. I opened my eyes very slowly, blinking over and over again in an attempt to fully open them and see what was going on around me. Where am I at this moment? After what seemed like an eternity, the dazzling light finally began to recede, allowing me to take in my surroundings. I was presently located at the medical facility. I was just beginning to wake up when I had the sensation that my right arm was being inflated like a balloon. I was so worried that it was going to explode at any second, but when the nurse started monitoring my blood pressure, I understood that the pressure I was experiencing was just her doing.
After the nurse had left the room, I gradually began to regain my composure and return to my senses. My oral and pharyngeal cavities were parched, just like the Mojave Desert. I could still smell the plastic from the tubes that were in my nose and throat. I could still smell the plastic. Next to my bed was a nightstand with a single drawer, and on top of it was a pink pitcher and cup that were both filled with water and crushed ice, respectively. I relieved the dryness in my mouth and throat by drinking from a glass of ice-cold water that I had prepared for myself and found that each swallow was a welcome relief.
The space had been meticulously cleaned, yet it had a dreary atmosphere. A standard hospital room with a bed, an IV, and many monitors that are beeping. A sickly green color was used for the walls, while a grayish hue was used for the linens. The environment did not give off the impression of being one in which a patient could be encouraged to make progress in their recovery. If anything, the gloomy room was making me feel sicker than I already was.
"You are awake!" After hearing a voice that was familiar to me, I turned to look in the direction that the voice was coming from and saw Ares.
"Hon... What— What in the world happened?" I asked. I'm trying to piece together how I found up in the emergency room. My only recollection is of being in one of the bathrooms at the villa when we were still there, and suddenly feeling a stabbing pain somewhere deep within my body. This is the only thing that comes to mind when I try to think back on what happened. It was something that I simply could not bring myself to do, and after that, everything went pitch black.
What exactly had taken place in my life?
"You lost consciousness for no apparent reason. The first thing I noticed was that you suddenly started throwing up, and by the time I called my mother for assistance, you were already laying on the floor." Ares said.
"What? But I didn't remember vomiting… In any case, how long have I been in this slumber?" I couldn't help but be intrigued, so I inquired. The fact that I could feel the aches throughout my body gave the impression that I had been lying here for days or perhaps weeks.
"You have been unconscious for close to the better part of three days at this point. I praise the Lord that you were able to finally get out of bed. You made me concerned about you and your well-being..." Ares spoke to me when he was attempting to give me a light hug. "Right! It is imperative that I get in touch with my parents. Everyone was anxiously awaiting your arrival when you finally opened your eyes. Give me a moment, and I will immediately call them. Just give me a moment. I was wondering if you thought that was a good idea." He asked.
"Uhm, sure. Sure." I was the one to respond. I didn't do anything other than rest my head on the headboard of the bed as I waited for Ares to return. I still have the throbbing sensation in my brain from when it happened. It seems like something heavy was dropped on my head. I can't think straight.
Ares did not return alone this time; he brought a physician with him. After what seemed like an eternity, the wait was finally over. After completing his examination, the doctor started talking to me about my condition.
"Hello, Kianna! Do you have any trouble understanding what I'm saying?" Her question was "yes."
"Yes, doc. Very audible and understandable."
"Great! So, my name is Doctor Torres, and when you suddenly lost consciousness here at the villa, they contacted me to check on you because I was the one who was asked to check on you. Do you still call yourself by your old name?"
I responded to her question by nodding my head and saying, "Yes, doctor..."
"All right, could you please introduce yourself to us?"
"I'm Kianna Myst Saavedra Veurtalejo…" I was the one to respond.
"Good. Do you recognize the location in which you currently find yourself?"
"Doctor, I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm in the hospital..."
And do you remember what transpired to you at that time?"
"I remember stuff, but I don't recall passing out at any point. My only recollection is that I was in the bathroom of the villa when we were still there, and that I suddenly felt a stabbing pain somewhere deep within my body. That's the only thing I can recall of what happened after that. There was something that I simply couldn't bring myself to do, and after that, everything went pitch dark."
"I see. Now that we have that out of the way, I would ask that you kindly refrain from moving for the time being. owing to the fact that we are continuing to conduct some testing."
"Okay, doc…"
After she had left the room, both her mother and her uncle returned to find themselves beaming with happiness as they took their places there. In addition to that, they brought some fruit, which was set on the table by the uncle.
"Sweety! Oh, praise the Lord, it seems as though you have already woken up! To say that we are concerned about you is an understatement. How can you describe the emotions that you are experiencing right now?" Concerned, mom questioned her son.
"Kianna, here are some fruits that we brought for you to enjoy. It's possible that reading this will speed up your recovery." Uncle added.
"I would like to express my gratitude for your presence here... I had the distinct impression that there was something wrong with my head. I'm able to push through the discomfort despite the fact that it's becoming worse. I sincerely apologize for giving any of you cause for concern. I just… I was completely in the dark about what had taken place to me at that point—"
"Shhh!" My mother abruptly stopped me from continuing by signing her hand. "There is no blame to be placed on you for this. Don't lay the blame on your own shoulders. At this point, all that is required of you is to direct your attention toward regaining your health. Is that entirely understandable?"
"Yes, mom…"
"Good girl. Son, can she finally start eating now that she's been given permission?" Ares was occupied with the keyboard on his phone when his mother asked him the question.
"Oh, I see, you're right, mama. Earlier, I had inquired about that matter with the attending physician. They indicated that she is now able to eat, but that she should limit herself to only eating a tiny bit of food at a time." Ares has provided a response.
"Son, it appeared as though you had a lot going on."
"Uhm… Actually, they need me at the office right now, but I can't go because I don't want to leave Kia home alone herself..."
"Your honor, everything is in order. I won't be uncomfortable being alone myself here at all—"
"Who told you that you will be the only one who stays here? Son, while you are at work, we will watch over her for you and make sure she is okay. Don't be concerned about anything, and get back to work right away." The mother inserted her thoughts. "Darling, would you be able to get the fruits for me? Kia is going to receive an apple that has been peeled by me."
"Mom, I was wondering whether that would be all right." Ares inquired.
"Of course. On top of that, we don't have anything to do at home, so it's better to stay here and keep Kia company than to go back there. Do I have it right, my darling?" She inquired while flashing a grin in my direction, and I immediately gave her the response "yes" while nodding in agreement with her.
"Alright. Respectfully, I promise that I will get back to you at the earliest possible opportunity. Okay?" Ares greeted me with a kiss on the forehead before saying something. After that, he leaned closer to me and whispered, "I love you..." in my ear.
Mom teased the two of us by saying, "I heard that..." as she was making the statement. "Son, there's no requirement for you to speak so quietly. That is fine with us." Then she went on to say.
I couldn't help but chuckle at them, and my response to him was simply, "I love you too..."
After Ares had left the room, my mother did not waste any time in beginning to peel the fruits and insisted that I eat them all. Because my mother went to the trouble of peeling all of them for me, I made an effort to consume all of them despite the fact that I had been asleep for several days and it seems as though I am not nearly as hungry as I should be. I don't think I will be able to finish everything, but I did try to consume all of it anyway.
