Chapter 99 Privileged
KIA
Since Ms. Ventura was the one who falsely accused you of something you have never done, the dean has asked you to work with her on the project so that you can make amends. Since she had been completely honest with him, the dean decided to give her a second chance despite placing her in the lowest possible tier. Will you be able to pull something like that off?
"What exactly do you want me to take care of for you?" I asked.
I have no clue what they had in mind for the outcome, but I am certain that they did this on purpose in order to bring about the outcome they desired. Where does one begin? Vera, do you think she was successful in manipulating them?
"You won't have any other responsibilities besides being her partner. You are going to offer assistance to her with her project, and completing this task successfully will be your first assignment as the top student at this institution." She was the one who responded.
As soon as I heard the word "mission," I made a conscious effort to narrow my eyes. "Mission? The dean is aware that we are not allowed to be in the same room together because there is a high probability that we will get into a fight, and to tell you the truth, I do not get along well with her. Why should I assist the person who tarnished my reputation just the week before?"
"I can empathize with how you are currently feeling, but due to the fact that it was the dean's order, there is nothing that can be done to change the situation. She expressed her belief that it would be beneficial to the both of you. When you first started working together, you and she probably developed a strong connection with one another. It's impossible to know for sure, right?"
"It's not even remotely possible for something like that to take place, ma'am."
She grabbed my hand out of the blue and started pleading. "Please, it's only for a few days, and if that doesn't work, you're free to do whatever you want with her after that. You are free to demote her to a lower tier once again. You have been tasked with completing this mission in your capacity as an ace. If you do not complete the task, you will receive a warning for the first offense, and if you continue to refuse missions, you will receive a warning for the second offense, and so on. After the third offense, you will be terminated from your position."
"Why would she hire me if she planned to fire me after I didn't do the things that she wanted me to do? I didn't want to do those things, so why would she hire me? I had the impression that becoming an ace would be a great honor because I would be the leader of everyone else and they would be required to respect me. However, after hearing everything you said, I came to the conclusion that becoming an ace was similar to serving in the role of the dean's assistant. It is not up to me to make decisions; rather, the dean is in charge."
"Regarding this matter, there is nothing that can be done by us. That is a regulation that must be followed within the university... It's possible that the dean's decision won't affect you directly, Ms. Saavedra, but I can assure you that everything she asked you to do was designed with your best interests in mind, even if you don't get to see the final result. This will put both your capacity for patience as well as your ability to forgive others to the test."
"Madam, how am I going to be able to forgive her if she wasn't even sorry for what she did?!"
"She is! That is the reason why she told the dean everything that had happened."
She did nothing but keep saying the same thing over and over again in the hope that I would eventually give in and agree with her. I have no choice but to agree to carry out their request because I have no other options. My current standing is too important to me to jeopardize. Not at this moment, after I've only recently obtained it. It is necessary for me to have this in order to safeguard myself against Asteria and her companions. They aren't going to hurt me or treat me poorly ever again because I won't let them.
"I will carry out your request..."
Her expression lit up into a broad grin as she thought about the response. After that, she touched my shoulder with her hand. "That is the standard for what a real ace should be like. A person who is willing to take on any challenge they are presented with. So, since we've reached this point, I guess we can consider the discussion finished. After some time has passed, I will send you an email with the project's instructions attached. Due to the fact that I still have a class, it is imperative that I leave right now, but — Oh, my God! I'm late! "She said this as she glanced at her watch. "I'll look forward to speaking with you again, Ms. Saavedra, at the upcoming meeting. If you still have some questions, the faculty is more than happy to respond to your inquiries; therefore, you shouldn't be afraid to ask them, all right?"
I simply nodded in response to her question, and she quickly departed after hearing it. After that, I went back to the room and got my bag out of the closet. Both Miaree and Marcy had remained in this location in anticipation of my arrival.
"Why do you have that look on your face that suggests you didn't win the lottery?" Marcy was the one who asked.
I looked at them while pursing my lips and gave them an annoyed expression.
"Why? What appears to be the problem?" The question was posed by Miaree who was concerned.
Before answering them, I heaved a sigh into the air. They want me to work alongside Vera on the upcoming project, and the sentence begins, "They want me to be Vera's partner."
"What the f*ck?" is an exclamation often heard.
"I can't believe it! What?!"
They both have expressions that suggest they are astounded by the unexpected information that I just shared with them, and I can empathize with them because I had the same reaction when I found out the news. "Argh! They warned me that I would be in violation of the rules if I didn't carry out their instructions, so I don't have a choice but to carry them out even though I don't particularly want to. They explained that it was a directive from the dean, and that as an ace, it was my responsibility to ensure that the guidelines were followed."
"Ohh… I can confirm that what you said is correct, young lady. It was pointed out in the guidelines. It is written in a book, which is located in the library; if you want to learn the other rules, you can look for the book. I'm sorry to interrupt, but I have to leave right away. The CSG is getting together for a meeting, and it is necessary for me to be there. Ciao!" Marcy said and left.
Miaree and I have no choice but to eat in the cafeteria without Marcy because there is no other option available to us. Just before I leave the room, I make sure to put on the necklace that Mrs. Vega presented to me earlier. It was breathtaking in its splendor. As soon as we walked into the cafeteria, everybody's eyes were immediately drawn to me. Some people greeted me, others offered their congratulations, and others acted as if they didn't like it when I wore the ace necklace because it reminded them of their own. As I was strolling along, all of a sudden, I noticed a guy bowing in front of me.
"Ace, my name is George, and I will be serving as one of your guides beginning now that you have completed your training to become an ace for the very first time." He instructed us to follow him to a secluded area of the cafeteria and then spoke to us there. It was the table with the most space out of every single one in the cafeteria. He instructed us to "Have a seat!" and we did so.
"Uhm… Is there really no other way to handle this situation?" I queried in a completely non-suspect manner.
He offered me a grin as he passed by. "Yes, ace. Starting right now, this seat at the table is going to be reserved for you, and in the not too distant future, you are going to be tasked with selecting other players to take part in your system. You will need to assign each of them a responsibility that they are accountable for carrying out in order to ensure the smooth operation of the university."
"Like CSG? She must choose some other leaders who are willing to lead alongside her." In the middle of everything, Miaree spoke up.
"Yes, Ms. Ishii."
He not only responded to our question, but he also tended to our dietary needs. And you won't believe what the price was: it was absolutely nothing! They claimed that if they were in one of the higher tiers, they would be eligible for a variety of privileges. I believe that I am finally beginning to enjoy the perks of being an ace...
