Chapter 9 On The Run

Angela POV

Aspen carries me into one of the cabins. I do not think this night can get any better. He lays me on the bed and takes me. The way he feels inside me as he pushes into me makes my body quiver.

Our wonderful night turns into a nightmare quickly. Aspen is pulled off of me by Alpha. Archie told Alpha that something is going on between Aspen and me. Archie and another wolf back Aspen into a corner. I can hear them growling as I try to get away from the Alpha.

He grabs me and pushes my legs apart as he prepares to take me. I kick, spit, scream and try to hit him. He is so much stronger than me. He slaps me hard across the face. I can hear Aspen struggling to get to me through the ringing in my ear.

Alpha grabs me around the throat and begins to choke me. I cannot breathe. I feel him so close to me. "No!" I scream as he chokes me.

"Fuck!" Alpha screams and falls onto the bed. I wiggle out from under him and run out the door of the cabin. I grab my clothes when I get outside. Aspen is coming up behind me fast.

"Grab onto me," he yells at me as he takes his wolf form. I hold on to his fur as he runs with me on his back. At a time when I should be panicked, this is the craziest thing I have ever felt. I am mounted to my wolf riding him out of danger.

I close my eyes and try to relax. I am sure Aspen is worried enough for both of us. He sprints until we are out of wolf territory. He stops. I slide off of him and put on my clothes. Fuck, my shoes. I am barefoot.

Aspen returns to his wolf form. "What now?" I ask him.

"I have no idea; just stay close to me. We have to find a place to hide for the night, and we will figure things out tomorrow, but first we have to take that collar off of you so Alpha cannot track you," Aspen says.

"I am sorry," I say softly.

"Don't be, and you are worth it. Now hold still so I can remove the collar," Aspen says.

Aspen carefully removes the collar and throws it onto the ground. He steps on it and smashed it. “That should keep the Alpha from finding you,” Aspen says.

We walk hand in hand toward town. "Do you think we should go into town?" I ask.

"I have no idea what we should do, to be honest. Alpha will be looking for us," Aspen says.

"I have an apartment, but I am sure that is the first place he would look," I say.

"That he would," Aspen says.

"Aspen, I know where we can go, but he might flip out when he sees you," I say.

"Where?" Aspen asks.

"Draco, Deanne's brother. He is distraught over her being taken. He would help us," I say.

"How far is it? We need to get somewhere fast. The Alpha will be looking for us tonight," Aspen says.

"It is not far from town. He bought a house just outside the city after Deanne was taken," I say.

"Lead the way," Aspen says to me.

Aspen and I walk toward Draco's house. It is dark, and I am terrified the Alpha will jump out and grab me at any moment. Even with Aspen here to protect me, I am terrified. "Are you okay?" Aspen asks me.

"Yeah, I will be okay once we get to Draco's. I hope he does not flip out," I say.

"Everything will be okay," Aspen says.

"Yeah, my best friend is being held hostage by the same Alpha that wants to take my head, and I am walking to a vampire's house with a wolf. This is a great night," I say.

Aspen stops. He leans down to kiss me. "Listen to me carefully, and I will not let anything happen to you. I will help you free Deanne. Draco will flip out over a wolf being on his doorstep. Just try to keep him calm for me. If he really wants to help his sister, then he will take whatever help he can get no matter who it comes from," Aspen says.

"He tried to talk me out of going to the wolf bar. He wanted me to stop looking, and I do not understand. He says he loves her, but why did he stop looking," I sob.

"I am sure he didn't stop. He was just a little smarter about than others," Aspen says.

"Yeah, like me," I say.

"Well, yeah, like you," Aspen says.

"Again, if I would not have gotten myself into this jam, then I would not have met someone I am positive I am in love with," I say.

Why did I say that to him? Aspen looks at me, taking in my words. "I feel the same way, but I do not want you to get hurt. No matter how I feel about you, I want you to be safe," Aspen says.

"Come on, let's get this big dick fight over with," I say.

"I promise I will try to restrain myself," Aspen says with a smile.

We walk up the driveway of Draco's home. He bought a huge house after Deanne was taken. It was probably purchased with the Alpha's money. I do not give a shit who Alpha paid off. Draco will help me. I know he will.

I go up to the door. Aspen hangs back and watching for wolves and to give me space with Draco. I ring the doorbell and wait. It is late. He could be asleep. Do vampires sleep? I have no idea.

Draco finally comes to the door. He opens it looks at me for a long minute. "Angela, what the hell? I thought the wolves took you. Get in here. We need to talk," Draco says. He grabs me and pulls me into a warm embrace.

"I have a wolf with me. He can help you get Deanne. He saved me from the Alpha. He risked his life to make sure I am safe. Please let him come into your home," I say to him.

Draco looks out the door. "Come on in, wolf," he says, sniffing in the direction of Aspen.

Aspen walks up onto the porch. I do not think I realized how big Aspen is until just now seeing him tower over Draco. Aspen extends his hand to shake Draco's. Draco takes it. "Get in here before someone sees you. We do not need any trouble," Draco says.

Aspen and I follow Draco into his beautiful enormous home. He walks us through the central part of the house and into his kitchen. "There are clothes upstairs if you need a shower and clothes, maybe some shoes, Angela. I can cook something for you to eat. You look like you have lost weight," Draco says.

"Yeah, I do need clothes and a shower, but first we need to talk," I say to Draco. I look back at Aspen. I am surprised that there is no animosity between them.

"Go ahead, and I will keep him company. He can help me cook," Draco says.

"Okay, which way am I going?" I ask him.

"Up the stairs and to the left. Take whatever you need," Draco says.

I go up the stairs and turn to the left. I walk down the hall to the bedroom. The room is huge. If this is his guest room, then what the hell does the master bedroom look like. Damn, Draco. I open the closet, and to my surprise, there are many women's clothing in the closet. What the hell! This is too weird.

I grab something out of the closet. I reach down in the bottom of the closet and grab a pair of shoes. I wonder if there is any sock in the drawers. I go to the tall chest of drawers and open it. There are socks and panties still in the packages. I do not even want to know what the hell is going on here.

I go into the oversized bathroom. I lay the clothes down and take out a giant fluffy towel from the closet. The closet is full of everything a woman could need. There are soaps, lotions, feminine products, and a box of pregnancy tests. What the hell! Okay, before I flip out and have to run from here, I will shower and put on shoes.

I turn on the hot water and let it get good and hot before I step into the shower. I remove my clothes and then double-check to make sure I locked the bathroom door. I do not want anyone walking in on me. Not even Aspen right now. I am confused and terrified. I cannot handle any more surprises right now.

I get into the shower. The water is so much hotter than what I have been getting at the work camp with the wolves. It feels so amazing. I let the water run down my body. I take the shampoo and begin washing my hair. It smells like lavender. I have not been able to shampoo my hair since I was taken; it is a mess. I rinse my hair and condition it. I feel like I have stepped into heaven.

What the hell am I doing? I have an Alpha trying to kill me, and I am taking my sweet time. He could be here already. I step it up and wash my body quickly. I get out of the shower reluctantly. If I survive this night, I am soaking in the enormous bathtub before I leave.

I dress in the clothes I selected earlier. I towel dry my long blonde hair and brush with the comb on the sink. The comb is still in a wrapper. I open the door on the sink, and there are dozens of combs, brushes, and hair ties. I grab a hair tie and pull up my wet hair.

I unlock the bathroom door and go into the bedroom. I sit on the bed to put on my shoes. I pull back the covers out of curiosity. The bed has fresh linen. Hmmm, Draco, this is way too weird. I need to know what is going on here.

I get up and take a deep breath. I have to ask him. My big mouth is always getting me into trouble, but I need to know. Is Draco involved in the auctions?

I go down the stairs, and I hear the two men talking like they are old friends. They are cooking and laughing. Oh my damn, Is Aspen involved in all of this too?

I stand in the doorway of the kitchen, looking at the two men. "So which one of you want to fess up that you already knew each other?" I ask them both. I look at them sternly, trying to scold them with my eyes.

"Come eat, Angela. I know you are hungry," Aspen says, setting a plate of food down at the table. I sit down reluctantly, squinting my eyes at him.

Aspen goes back into the kitchen and gets a plate for himself. "What do you want to drink?" Draco hollers from the kitchen.

"I feel like I might need whiskey," I say.

"I can offer you tea," Draco says. He brings me a glass of iced tea and sets it down at the table.

The two men finally sit down with me. "She looks upset," Aspen says to Draco.

"Yeah, well, I would be too if I was kidnapped," Draco says.

"What the hell is going on, Draco? And why in the hell do you have all those clothes and personal items? Are you involved?" I ask him.

"I am, but not in the way that you are thinking right now, love," Draco says.

"Well, it would be nice if one of you would explain it to me because I am freaking out over here," I say.

"That is because you are hungry. You really should eat," Draco says.

"Someone is going to explain all of this to me, but you are right; I am hungry," I say.

I dig into my food and eat. The food is beyond delicious. I will get my answers after dinner. Right now, I guess I should just enjoy the food.
