Chapter 5
It's about two weeks later. I was pretty used to this big ole house now, the pay was great, and I finally made enough to buy my own car. I haven't seen Sabrina over in a while, probably because she made enough money off of him to last for a while.
I hate that bitch.
-
It was 2 in the morning, and for some reason, I couldn't sleep; I stood and slipped my slippers on before leaving my room. I walked down the hall and into the kitchen; I grabbed a glass and poured myself some water.
"Hey." Vincent's voice startled me, I almost dropped my glass.
"You scared me!" He was sitting down in the living room.
"Sorry about that." He chuckled.
"I didn't know if anyone else was up."
"Well, I'm up, just thinking." He laid back in his chair. "What about you?"
"I can't sleep."
"Well, do you wanna join me for a drink?"
"Sure, Why not?"
This could be a chance to bring us both closer, Way closer.
I walked over to him and sat down next to him. He grabbed the bottle of Bourbon and poured me some.
"Are you sure this is appropriate? Having a drink with my boss?"
"It's fine, it's just a drink."
"Okay." I sipped my drink "This is very strong."
"It's the best of the best." He smiled.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"You're up at 2 in the morning drinking some bourbon, by yourself." I replied.
"You got me. It's just I've been thinking a lot about Rose's mother and all of our issues."
"Oh, if you don't mind me asking, what happened between you and Rose's mother?"
"We had a bad breakup, I found out that she was cheating on me and she basically was using me just for my money. She never loved me, it was all for show."
"Wow, I'm sorry about that." I gently rubbed his arm.
"Thanks." He stared at me.
I removed my hand once I noticed what I was doing "I can't even imagine how you must have felt in that moment. I know it's hard to understand why someone you love would hurt you like that."
He sighed "She was the first woman I've ever loved, it sucks that things had to end the way they did between us. I wanted us both to stay together for our daughter, And I don't want Rose to feel like her mother doesn't love her anymore because she's barely around."
"I don't think Rose feels that way, or I sure hope not."
"Regardless if she does or not, A child should never have to experience both of their parents breaking up and not being with each other; Especially so young."
"I know, But she'll get through this. I got through it so I know she will, she's strong."
"Yeah, I sure hope so." He chugged the rest of his drink "Thank you for sitting here chatting with me."
"Of course, If you ever need anyone to talk to I'm here for you."
"Just talking to you right now is already making me feel better. I know we don't get to talk a lot because I'm almost always busy, so maybe we can start."
"Yeah, I barely can see you." I sipped my drink while he poured himself another.
"Sometimes I just wish that I can take some time off for work."
"You can, you're the boss right?"
"I am but -"
"I'm sorry but I think Rose would love to spend some time with you for longer than four hours, you should take a week off of work just for her."
"Yeah, you're right. No wonder Rose loves you, you're wonderful."
I smiled "Thanks."
He chugged the rest of his second drink "I have a question. What's your biggest fear?"
"That's a tough one because I have a couple."
"We have more than enough time." He smiled.
"Well, one of them is being alone without family or friends. Not being able to find happiness, Like what if I never find true love? or my dream job?"
"Yeah, I can see how that would be scary. But I think you're going to find both of those things eventually. You're such an amazing person, Maya. You deserve all the happiness in the world."
"Thanks, Mr. Miller."
"It's been weeks yet you still call me Mr. Miller, you can call me Vincent." His eyes scanned over me.
It wasn't until then that I realized I was only in a lace tank top and super short shorts. I didn't plan on getting dressed because I was only stopping in the kitchen to grab some water.
"Well Vincent, you're pretty amazing too. I mean, you're so smart and talented. You're also handsome and successful, do you have any flaws?"
He chuckled "Thank you, you've made my day better."
He stared into my eyes, I wanted him to lean in so badly for a kiss but he didn't. He looked away from me "I think I'm gonna try and get some sleep, This liquor is starting to kick in." He stood and closed the bottle.
"Oh, Okay." I stood.
He turned around to me "I enjoyed our little bit of time together. We should hang out some more." He smiled.
"Yeah, of course. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." I walked away, I could feel his eyes watching me as I did. I entered my room and laid back down in bed.
I don't know why he didn't kiss me. I know he wanted to kiss me as badly as I wanted to kiss him. Or maybe he doesn't like me the same way that I like him and I'm just delusional.
Either way, I still want him, and I want him bad.
