Chapter 5

I woke up to someone gently tapping me. “Hey, wake up” the person said.

I opened my eyes and met clear ocean blue eyes staring back at me. Paige was kneeling next to me. I am awake, clearly, but she was not backing off. She just stayed there staring straight at me. It is a bit unsettling. What am I saying? It is very unsettling.

Is it just me or is she staring at me longingly?

“I’m up. I’m up” I say moving to get up. Now, she moves away, and stands extending her hand to help me up. I didn’t want to take her hand, but it will seem rude if I didn’t, so I took it, and she pulled me up.

She pulled me up, but didn’t move away, we were standing toe to toe. “Well, this is awkward” I thought before I took a step back and bent to retrieve my blanket and pillow. I carefully folded

the blanket and put it back in the closet. All the while, Paige just stood there following me with her eyes.

I put the pillow back on the bed, then turned back to her, and gave her a questioning stare, raising one eyebrow. “So…” I said.

“Oh, um, Devon is here, so is his brother and his friend.” She finally said.

“Oh. Umm, great” I mumbled. Then it clicked, “Wait, friend? What friend? Katy didn’t say anything about a friend!” I exclaimed.

“Well I don’t know. But, you said to let you know when they arrived, and they have arrived. They’re all downstairs, and I’m sure Katy is waiting for you. So, come on” she said nodding towards the door as she started for it.

I had no choice but to follow. We went downstairs and walked into the large living room, and there was my sister holding Devon’s hand and laughing, and two other guys sitting on the couch.

“Two really handsome guys” I said to myself. “One more handsome than the other” I thought tilting my head a little.

Then Katy saw us coming and stood smiling broadly, “Here comes Kathy” she said still smiling. “Kathy you’ve already met Devon” she continued. I smiled as Devon pulled me into a hug,

“Hey Katherine. How’s it been?” Devon asked smiling as he released me. “Great. Everything has been just fine, Devon. Good to see you” I replied.

“And Kathy, this is Devon’s younger brother Ian” Katy continued gesturing towards the dark haired man who stood up to extend his hand smiling. “Hello Katherine. We finally meet, Katy talks about you a lot. How are you?” He said as I took his hand. “Great, great. Nice to meet you too” I replied.

“And finally, this is Asher, Devon’s best friend” I smiled as the tall more handsome of the two stood up and took my hand in a firm, and kind of lingering handshake, smiling. “Hi, nice to meet you” he said. “Nice to meet you too” I replied.

Wow, this guy was really handsome with hair as black as midnight and grey eyes with flecks of gold and brown, and a nicely chiseled jaw.

“Asher and Ian will be staying here for a week, until Devon returns. He has a high profile case in two months, so he will be leaving tomorrow” Katy said looking sad.

“Hey, come on, cheer up babe. We have the rest of lives to make up for that” Devon replied planting a kiss on her cheek.

“Hey, where’s Kaden?” I asked. “Oh, he’s outside showing off his dunking skills to Haley” Katy laughed.

“Great” I said. “Pardon me you guys, but I have to go say hi to my pig headed little brother” I said exiting the room.
