Chapter 2851 Why Does My Wife Follow Me Every Day? 10
When Jin Chen woke up, she first looked at the carpet next to the bed and reached her hand over the edge. The towel that had been laid there that night was still there, but it was empty; the rabbit was gone.
He propped himself up on his elbows and scratched his hair, which was a little messy from sleeping.
In the morning light, you can see faint marks on the towel, with a few white rabbit furs stuck to the edge.
It really wasn't a dream.
Jin Chen stared blankly for a few seconds before reaching for her phone on the bedside table.
The screen lights up, showing one unread message.
Yun Jian: It's my pet rabbit. Thank you for your help last night. It's back now.
The message was sent at 6:20. Jin Chen glanced at the current time: 8:55.
Ah, my wife is up so early.
He paused his fingertip on the screen for a moment, then typed a reply: "It's okay, it's very well-behaved, but next time you can let it use the front door."
After sending the message, Jin Chen got out of bed, walked to the window, and suddenly pulled open the curtains.
On a clear morning, the sunlight streamed in, almost blindingly so.
The window opposite was also open, and Yun Jian stood on the windowsill, holding a small spray bottle, watering the potted plants by the window.
He was wearing a warm-colored long robe today. The material looked very soft, and the cuffs were loose, swaying gently with his movements. Jin Chen watched for a few seconds and then opened the window.
"Good morning," Jin Chen said, his voice slightly hoarse from just waking up.
Yun Jian turned around, saw him, and her eyes curved into a smile. "Good morning."
The spray bottle's mist refracted into tiny rainbows under the sunlight.
Jin Chen looked at it and suddenly became interested. He turned around, filled a half-cup with water, returned to the window, and watered the flowers as well.
Yun Jian watched from the opposite side, and the corners of his lips unconsciously turned up.
"Want to come to the shop for breakfast later?" Jin Chen asked through the two windows after watering the flowers and putting down his cup. "I'll try making waffles with the new maple syrup."
“Okay.” Yun Jian nodded, his voice gentle. “I’ll bring some flowers to go with the meal.”
"That would be even better," Jin Chen said with a smile.
After closing the window, Yun Jian heard the chirping of two rabbits. He poked one of them and said, "Don't say Jin Chen is lazy. It's still early. I can pretend I haven't eaten breakfast."
rabbit:"……"
At 9:30, the aroma of bread and coffee wafted from the coffee shop.
Jin Chen was baking waffles, while Tan Quan, holding a mop, leaned lazily against the wall, yawning incessantly.
The door was pushed open, and the wind chimes rang.
Yun Jian walked in, carrying a bouquet of flowers—a few champagne rosebuds wrapped in kraft paper, simple yet beautiful.
He handed the bouquet to Jinchen, who was preparing waffle batter, a gentle, warm smile in his eyes. "I hope this won't be too much of a bother."
"Not at all, it's an honor to have you here." Jin Chen accepted the bouquet, her fingertips brushing against Yun Jian's slightly cool fingers.
Jin Chen placed the bouquet in a prominent position on the inside of the worktable. "Put it here for now, and we'll find a vase to put it in later."
Yun Jian's gaze lingered on the bouquet of flowers for a moment before he sat down in his usual spot by the window.
From this angle, you can just see Jin Chen's profile as he busies himself behind the bar.
Tan Quan put down the mop, strode to the kitchen, and brought out a large bowl containing his own breakfast. The fried rice was piled up like a small mountain, and there were also fried eggs and sausages on the side. The portion was frighteningly large.
He carried the bowl and strolled to the door, glancing at the flower shop next door, where Songcun was tidying up the signboard.
Tan Quan grinned and went over with the bowl in his hand.
Jin Chen glanced at him, said nothing, and continued with her work.
He took out the baked waffles and placed them on a white porcelain plate. He also made a latte and garnished it with a few fresh blueberries and mint leaves.
"Try it," Jin Chen said, sitting down and pushing the waffle towards Yun Jian.
Yun Jian picked up his fork, cut off a piece, and put it in his mouth.
The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness, which made him squint his eyes slightly and reveal a satisfied expression.
“Delicious,” he said, cutting off another piece.
Jin Chen watched him eat, then picked up her coffee cup and took a sip.
Yun Jian took two bites, and his taste buds were fully satisfied, but he had no appetite.
If only I could taste Jin Chen's lips after this breakfast.
Yun Jian thought that he would savor it slowly, perhaps with a hint of coffee bitterness and the sweet aroma of biscuits.
He lowered his head regretfully, then cut another waffle, his movements a beat slower.
Jin Chen noticed Yun Jian's distraction, put down his cup, and gently flicked Yun Jian's forehead.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked, his voice tinged with laughter.
Yun Jian raised his head and looked at Jin Chen. The morning light shone from the side, revealing the man's deep-set eyes, straight nose, and naturally upturned lips that made him look like he was smiling even when he wasn't.
"I wasn't thinking about anything, the waffles were delicious," Yun Jian said, a smile curving his lips.
He propped his cheek up with one hand, his gaze following Jin Chen as he got up to take a new order, as he stood focused in front of the coffee machine, and as he spoke to a customer in profile.
"So cute," Yun Jian thought to himself.
It was so obvious, how could Jin Chen not notice that gaze? What was wrong with being looked at like that by his wife?
After finishing a customer's order, Jin Chen walked back to the table.
Yun Jian had finished breakfast and was slowly sipping the last few sips of coffee.
"Are you free at noon?" Jin Chen asked, resting his hand on the back of the chair. "I've booked a restaurant and would like to invite you to lunch."
Yun Jian's heartbeat quickened in that instant.
The invitation I had been anticipating all morning arrived just like that.
"I'm free," Yun Jian said, a faint smile appearing in her eyes. "I'm looking forward to it."
The restaurant isn't far; it's only a 20-minute drive away.
Jin Chen's reserved seat was by the window, overlooking the lush green courtyard below. Yun Jian sat opposite him, his shirt perfectly pressed, slowly wiping his hands with a hot towel.
The waiter handed over the menu, and Jinchen let Yunjian order first.
Yun Jian flipped through a few pages, ordered a few light dishes, and a bottle of red wine, then pushed the menu toward Jin Chen.
"Take a look and see if there's anything else you want to add."
Jin Chen ordered two more dishes, and after the waiter left, there was a brief silence between the two of them.
But Yun Jian is good at finding topics to talk about.
He performed exceptionally well, his attention entirely focused on Jin Chen, so how could he bear to let this moment of solitude become awkward?
The waiter brought out the red wine, opened the bottle, but Jinchen, who still had to drive, only drank tea.
