Forty
"Break the lock, Mr. Peter." Killan asked one of the guards while walking in.
"Why? Did our little one lose the key?" His father asked while shaking his head, I expected that." He told the guards.
"It isn't our little one, Alpha Kaden. We haven't asked her yet." Kian said this while also walking in. He couldn't stand anyone telling lies about his mate.
"Why? Why are we breaking the lock then?" One of the guards asked in confusion.
"Why don't you ask Alina? Even without being in here, she already knows that the key is lost." Kian sneered while going back to his chair. At the same moment, Alina walked in while calling Kilan's name. To get his attention, she cried, lying that she was feeling dizzy and wasn't okay at all. Killan's secretary, who was the one instructed to take care of Alina from then on, rose from her chair and walked to her. "Alina, I'll call the doctor for you." She said this while helping her stand. Before Alina could refuse like she intended to, the doctor had already arrived, and she was taken from there.
The lock was broken, and the meeting went as planned as the guard prepared themselves to go after the Lycan. It didn't take long before the workers saw the tension between Alina and Kilan. They kept on gossiping, telling everyone that Alina and Kilan's marriage would come to an end soon. Not wanting to believe all she was hearing, Alina had a meeting with herself to plan a way to get Killan's attention, just like in the past.
"This baby is not his, and it won't take long before he realizes it; in fact, after he's born, why don't I sacrifice him and get Killan's attention?" She thought while biting her nails. "But I'll need to frame someone about this. Who should I?" She thought while still pacing up and down the corridors. It had been a month now, and Kilan had completely ignored her. Where he spent the nights was something she had no idea of; where he ate, she also didn't know; and where he stayed, she didn't know either. She couldn't ask anyone because all his guards and the elders were avoiding her. They all behaved as if they knew something that she had no idea about. That day, when the lock was broken, she hid behind the door to see what was in that black file.
She sighed in relief when she only saw maps, and she concluded that someone must have thrown it away without the alpha's idea because if they had read it, there was no way she could still roam around the pack freely. She could be somewhere inside the dungeon, rotting for doing all those deeds. A giggle jarred her from her thoughts, and she quickly averted her gaze downstairs. Kamilina was walking in the middle while both Killan and Kian held both of her hands. Kian had his fingers in her left hand while Kian was holding her right hand.
"Yes, she is the one who has taken my Killan from me. Since the day she arrived at this pack, he has been stuck with her, making him forget about me and our baby." She complained while hatching a plan in her head. Getting off the window, she wore her clothes and walked out of there, humming happily.
"When did you reach here?" She asked her when she met her downstairs.
"Not long ago." Kamilina responded.
"And why are you cleaning up?" Alina watched her closely. The smile she wore on her face twenty-four hours a day was not there, and she didn't look happy at all.
"Brother Killan asked me to." She responded while still mopping the floor.
Smirking secretly, Alina thought to herself. "Well, it seems like Killan is angry with her, so framing her would be easy.
"What about the workers? Where are they?" She asked while looking around. 'It's not what I am thinking, is it?" She asked her while smiling.
"I don't know what you are thinking about, Luna Alina. Maybe you should tell me." Kamilina responded without raising her head.
"Luna Alina. Finally, you have started respecting me. I wonder what you did to your brother, leading him to turn you into this humble servant." She thought inwardly, and then, smacking her lips together, she said, "This is what I mean. Has he asked you to take over the cleaning duties? I mean, the maids will be taking a break because you have stepped up for them?"
"Yes, Luna Alina. I will be the one in charge of cleaning this area, the guards rentals, and the compound. I will also be cooking, washing utensils, and scrubbing toilets. That is what brother Killan has said." Kamilia responded with her head still bowed, concentrating on her work.
"It's good to hear that. Can you please bring me a cup of tea?" She then asked while going back upstairs. "Bring it to my room, Kamilina." She then called her out. A few minutes later, Kamilina walked in with a cup of hot tea in her hands. Alina picked up the cup carelessly and then spilled some of the tea on her. She expected her to scream and run to her brother, but she remained expressionless.
"Uh, I am sorry. That didn't burn, did it?" Alina faked sympathy.
"Not much, Luna Alina. I'll take my leave." With that, Kamilina walked out of the room. Alina looked at her in confusion and then tasted the tea. It was her favorite. How did Kamilina know about her favorite tea?
"Who taught you how to make this Kamilina?" She called her back.
"Brother Killan." She responded without turning to look at her.
"Okay," she waved at her and retreated back to her room.
Alina skipped happily while humming her best song. All that time, she had thought that Alpha Kilan had completely forgotten about her, but he hasn't. She slumped on the sofa beside the bed, telling herself that she had been worrying for nothing. If Killan was mad at her and never cared for her at all, then he wouldn't have sent his sister, whom he loved so much, to look after her. What she was left to find out was what Kamilina had done to make her brother reduce her to a slave. Well, that didn't matter; what mattered was that the spoilt brat Kamilina was now bowing at her and was doing all the house chores; she must really take that to her advantage.
All she wanted was for Killan to come back to her, love her blindly like he did before, and listen to no one else but her. She wanted the Killan, who wouldn't hesitate to banish or throw someone at the pure wolf den for her sake. He wanted the Killan, who would even go against his grandfather and do what she wanted him to do. She had to get him first before he found the file Harris had held against her. Once he is on her side again, she will frame Kamilian for putting false documents in there because it was not only her; even Killan was aware of the fact that his little sister doesn't like her. Her phone rang, and she quickly picked it up. It was the fake Cameroon, and she thought that maybe she had come up with a plan to help her get Killan back. Earlier, she had called, and she said that she would call back.
"I need half a million dollars, Alina." The fake Alpha Cameroon said it without hesitating.
"What? Where do you expect me to get all that from?" She asked, not believing her ears.
"I don't care. You figure it out, Alina. I already helped you get a goon that would kill your husband, and now that he's dead, you should pay me." The person said:
"He isn't dead, and as we are talking right now, he is very alive and healthy. Besides, I paid that silly truck driver of yours who couldn't even get the work properly done." She yelled at the top of her voice.
Well, I don't care, Alina. I just don't care. I told you he was my underdog and that you should send the payment to me, but you chose to send it to him instead. How do you think I am going to bribe the officers when they find that the truck is registered with my number?" She asked her. Alina, I don't care from where you are going to get that money, but I need it in half an hour, so you better send it or else I'll send Alpha Killan our conversations." She threatened.
"But I told you that I don't have this kind of money right now, or else I could have..."
"Don't you dare lie to me; I know that you are hiding Harris's and that poor girl's shares that you lied to. So send me what I want from that." Upon saying that, she hung up and left Alina talking on her own. After weighing the thoughts down, she decided to send the amount the fake alpha Cameroon was demanding because, after all, she wouldn't lose anything. She was still hiding Harri's share and the little girl's share. Someone cleared their throat behind her, and she spun, looking to see who was there. It was Killan.
"Babe," she called, "you are finally here!" She smiled while walking closer to him. Killan ignored her and went straight to the closet, where he packed a few of his clothes. He had decided that he wouldn't share the same bed with someone like Alina ever again. It would be better if he slept in the guest room or even at his sister's place, but not anywhere close to Alina. "Are you going somewhere?" She asked while looking at the bag on his hands.
"Does it matter? It seems like people are tired of seeing me alive, and because I am of no use to them, they will do anything they want to see me out of the picture." He chuckled bitterly while shaking his head in disbelief.
"Babe, what are you talking about? Why are you talking like that? You know that you are still of use to me." She said this while walking closer to him. She held his hands, wanting to know what he meant by talking about all that.
"Really? If I am still of use to you, then why the truck driver?" He asked, still chuckling bitterly.
"What do you mean? I don't understand a thing." Alian laughed while blinking her eyes rapidly. All the while, she couldn't know if Killan had already figured out her plans or if she was just misinterpreting things. "Would you mind making me understand, please?" She asked while biting her lower lip. Before Killan could respond, Kamilian walked in, asking his brother if he was ready. After seeing the suitcase on the floor, she picked it up and dragged her brother out of there. Alina stood, wondering what was going on between them. Just a moment ago, he had punished her by making her the maid of the day, and after a while, they were dragging each other by their hands as if they weren't quarreling at all.
Brother, let's go. Mom and dad are waiting." Kamilina yelled while running down the stairs. Killan ran after his sister while sparing Alina no glance. Alina was left trying to figure out on her own what he meant by saying all that. Voices downstairs filled her ears, and she peered through the window to see what was going on. It seemed like Alpha Killan's parents were finally leaving, and they were taking both Killan and Kamilina with them.
"Help!" A scream caught everyone's attention. They all rushed back inside but found Alina lying down the stairs, unable to form words. Weakily, she looked around to see if Alpha Killan was among the people who were running to help her, but she saw him standing at the door with a pleased expression on his face. "Is he happy about this? We have just lost our baby!" She thought while struggling to defeat the darkness that was about to consume her.
"Killan I have taken this risk and jumped off the stairs so that you can start caring for me just like you have in the past. Please come to me; I just lost our baby." She thought while feeling the wetness coming out between the middle of her legs. She stayed there and watched as the pack doctor carried her towards the ambulance that had just arrived. Killan was still standing at the same spot, leaning slightly against the door with a satisfied smirk on his face. When the doctor wheeled her past him, she stretched her hands, wanting Killan to hold them, but he looked somewhere else, like he was unaware of what was going on.
What she had no idea was that, by kiling her child just to bring Killan towards her, she had dug her own grave. The only reason she wasn't punished for her mistakes yet was because she was still pregnant. The elders were impatiently waiting for her nine months to end and to bring her to court, but who knew she would reduce the days all by herself? Alpha Kilan couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. His hands had been itching all this while looking for an opportunity to kill and torture her, but her unborn baby always made him change his mind. He now knew nothing was holding him back. The baby was no longer there, just the mother.
"After you come to the realization of what you have brought to yourself by doing this, trust me, you will wish that you could have died along with that baby." Kilan smirked while looking at her disappearing figure that was being wheeled towards the ambulance. Going after them, he stood at the door and told the doctor, "Don't keep her for long. She needs to get out of the hospital as soon as possible, so I'll advise that you do everything in your power to make sure that she survives. She is not only important to me but to the pack as well."
"Yes!" Alina yelled inwardly. "He is back to me. He said that I am not only important to him but to the pack as well. That means I am his favorite once again," she thought while letting the darkness that she had been blocking overpower her. "You'll spend most of your time taking care of me, my dear Killan. You will never get the chance to find out what is in that file." She thought, and she passed out.
"She needs to be out as soon as possible because she will set an example. She will go through worse punishment, which Camila didn't even go through." He growled, but his words were never heard by her because she had already passed out.
